  1. Hi I've got some great tree models in .max file format. I tried converting to 3ds then importing to VW but the results are bad. They are very heavy polygon trees that 3ds cannot handle. Anyone know a way of getting the .max file in to VW,.? which file format that VW can import is closest to the quality of .max? is there are a .max to vwx converter plugin? DWF also gave bad results Thanks
  2. Repairing permissions didn't help. Still can't reboot, we'll see tomorrow. Thanks Well accidentally disconnected a drive and killed the processs... so I could reboot. All fixed. Seems a very odd thing to happen though.
  3. Actually I can't reboot for a day or so, I got something running I can't interrupt. If a reboot does fix it, I wonder what the heck it is... I did quit and restart VW
  4. oh yeah good point....... working normally in Illustrator. so its a VW thing...I already trashed some prefs , the main vw 2013 and 2014 plists. should i trash others?
  5. thanks but I checked that turned off all other keyboards. because its suddenly happening in 2013 too, I guess its my system. But its OSX 10.9 no other drivers to try or anything like that...
  6. such as select multiple by holding down shift key -not working, drag corner of rectangle hold shift to constrain resizing - not working, Hold Option while Marquee Select to select partially covered objects -not working...... this is true for 2013 and 2014. I have looked at all the prefs but cannot find one that fixes this, I trashed VW prefs, no fix. I even tried another keyboard. And tried different files... Did I miss a pref?? thanks for any help, impossible to get any work done like this
  7. Also the hidden line test fails on the Mpro, got this error [/img]
  8. OK some results of the Render Test file Fast Q iMac 7 min:13 2nd time 6 min 50 Mac pro 5 min 00 2nd time 4 min 13 Final Q iMac failed to finish, seems to get stuck, tried 1st time 38 hours with no progress on the blue render bar; 2nd try currently 10 hours made it to about 80% at 7 hours but seems stuck now Mac Pro final Q Average 2 runs 3hours 8 min
  9. I think that is true , the file had mostly geometry not much lighting.
  10. I'd be happy to run some more tests if anyone has a particular file they want me to try.
  11. no hidden lines, its a DTM, trees, high polygon playground equipment, a few other surfaces
  12. I ran a few render tests with the new Mac Pro (6core 32GB ram D500) and iMac 2012 i7 24 Gb ram ,on the same file, to see if the MP is faster. Fast renderworks 1st render iMac = 1 min. 25sec MP= 1min. 21sec re-render = 30 sec MP= 30 sec Final Q 1st render iMac= 6min. 45 sec MP= 5min 36 sec re-render = 2min 57 sec MP= 2min 43 sec Full Q , High Q detailed 3d, OpenGL very smooth with flyover tool on MP, just a little smoother than on the iMac. Not much difference, hope they optimise VW for the MP soon. Final Cut Pro screams though on the new MP.
  13. Ahh Ok I see a file with VWTMP added to the file name... great...but why doesn't it tell you that it saved anyway? if it can save - why give a msg. that it can't ?? I see this as a terrible, major bug, what can be worse than your app crashing while your hard at work. Update: it's not fixed. just tested it, 2.3gb or so Out of memory
  14. Did they fix the issue with the memory limit? Yesterday I couldn't save my work cause vw ran out of memory . Sure enough I checked and vw was over the 2.5 gb limit in activity monitor. A little surprising as I hadn't been re rendering a lot. Reboot and it fixed as usual . I'm not a programmer but it seems to me the least vw could do is watch the activity monitor for me and warn me when getting close to 2 gb. I had auto save off cause it would interrupt renders.
  15. Ok I did it,it works, I had thought that class had to stay on for he modifier to modify. Thanks
  16. I have checked all the class settings I can think of including the graphic properties of the dtm, but 3 site modifiers, all pads, show a red outline even after Final Q rendering. Got to be a way to turn it off?
  17. Edit: figured it out, I forgot I downloaded extra trees form VBVisual and put them in the wrong directory Hi ray, I have the VBVisual folder in the defaults folder, Applications/VW...2014/Libraries /defaults I don't know how I got German plugins. I did add the extras when installing 2014. Other than that everything is default install I have these files in the 2014/Plugins folder also Pflanze VBvisual CW.vwlibrary Pflanze VBvisual CW.vwr
  18. In my install of LM2014, I have this tool , PflanzeVBVisual Tool CW under the Visualisation tool set, I do not have the same VbVisual that is in 2013. When I click on it I get the message "error occurred while opening plug-in. Make sure there is a "Plug-Ins" folder is the same folder as the application." Anyone else having this error? Should I reinstall 2014 over the top of this installation? IS this the correct name for this tool? What'S a "Pflanze"? thanks for any ideas. Steve
  19. Have been working on a site model, 2014 is handling it very well, made numerous changes and re renders, as long as I restart VW before it gets to 2.5 gb memory usage it has been rock solid.
  20. Well, I have been trying to crash VW 2014 by opening several files and re rendering to get to the dreaded 2.5 gb memory usage threshold and Sorry to say it crashed. So for me, the most troubling thing about VW has not been fixed. It's hard for me to comprehend how this is acceptable or unfixable. I opened 3 files and re rendered a couple times then opened a complex file and tried to render once and VW crashed. So I have to keep an eye on activity monitor and can't do too much without closing and reopening VW
  21. http://architosh.com/2013/09/nemetschek-vectorworks-will-soon-unveil-major-updated-vectorworks-2014-with-dramatic-new-under-the-hood-technologies/ I hope this means VW can now use more than 2GB of memory before crashing without warning.
  22. I never found a cure for this, other than making a new smaller file to import. Another user was able to use the original file on another computer (see above). I also had many problems with VW crashing most of those were because VW has a limit of memory it can use. When VW's memory usage -viewed in Activity Monitor-reaches 2gb or so it will crash -regardless of how much Ram is available to your system-, restarting VW fixes this. I was able to replicate this many times and this was confirmed by tech support, hopefully this is fixed in the new update though it was not listed that I could see.
  23. To test VW SP3 I tried to get it to crash by doing multiple re-renders, and opening a lot of drawings, while watching the real memory used by VW. It was stable until I got over 2.2gb of real memory used - then it crashed. So as stated in another thread when VW gets to near 2gb Ram used -regardless of how much ram your system has available , it is prone to crash. So not sure if its any better in this regard than Sp2, but getting to 2Gb used took some intentional abuse. Just redrawing one complex drawing with fairly complex lighting did not get to near 2Gb too very easily but having about 6 drawings open really added a lot of overhead to VW's Ram usage. FWIW
