  1. The component wrapping for the door and window tools currently only shows in 2D. Splays do show in 3D. Not so much a bug but a limitation, one that is known. Please feel free to submit an enhancement request as opposed to a bug report.
  2. If you copied over your 2011 (or earlier) workspace files to your 2012 install, then this behavior will occur. There were some internal updates to the door and window tools that cause this. Deleting and re-adding the tool as described fixes the problem.
  3. You are correct...in the dialog the view is different. Things like sills, trim and shutters are dependent on the wall to determine their interior and exterior. When there is no wall, the concept of interior losses most of its meaning, so determining how to draw it becomes confusing. The dialog preview has been this way for a while.
  4. The Overhead Line is placed in the Ceiling-Overhead class. Hide this class and the line should no longer be visible.
  5. The Sill, in the terminology of the window tool, is always on the exterior. The part that is on the interior is referred to as the Stool. Try playing with the Sill Lip, Keep, Depth and Height values and you make be able to achieve the look you are going for.
  6. Unfortunately, there is no real way to fix this in 2011 short of covering it up yourself. But I can confirm that this issue has been resolved in 2012.   7. As in the past, I would like to make our users aware of the new features and updates available in Vectorworks 2012's Door and Window tools. We have tried to answer some many long standing and repeated requests with many of these new features. Some of these features were specifically requested by our European distributors. I hope there is something for everyone here. New Door Attributes The threshold line style and overhead swing line style can now be configured. Previously the threshold would follow the jamb line style, and the overhead swing was a hard coded dashed line. The transom glazing now has its own class, like the sidelights. Previously it would use the same glazing as the glass leaf. Window Transom Options You can now configure the muntins for the transom separately than those of the sash, similar to the way you can in the door. Previous versions would force you to use the same configuration as the sash. The transom glazing for the window also has its own class now to allow a different texture. Window Sash Offsets There are 3 new parameters for the window to allow positioning of the sash. Sash Offset will move the sash from its default position within the jamb. Sash Width Offset allows an additional width to be applied to the sash allowing it to stretch into the jamb. Glass Offset will move the glass from its center position in the sash. New Hinge Direction Marker Options There are now options for both interior and exterior hinge direction markers in both doors and windows. Previous versions only showed the marker on the exterior. There is also a Hinge Marker Class for visibility purposes, allowing you to show and hide the hinge direction marker by setting the classes visibility. Especially handy for rendering where you don't want to show the marker. You can now hide the marker without having to go to all your objects and changing the parameter. Door and Window: User Control for Default Visibility Classes The Sills, Ceiling-Main, Non-Plot and Ceiling-Overhead classes are no longer hard coded. You can user define, change, rename, redefine, reclassify at will. This is available on a per object basis so you can separate the classes used for doors and windows, and any mix you like. The existing values are the defaults, but you can play with them as you wish. New Opening Types for Doors and Windows Door size can now be defined using Leaf Size, Unit Size and Rough Opening Size. Previous versions only defined a doors dimensions by its Leaf size. Window size can also be defined using Sash Size, Unit Size (previously Overall) and Rough Opening. The previous version only allowed for defining by Overall size. Defining the height and width by Rough Opening includes the shim gap value in calculations. There is also a new options to Show Shim Gap in Top/Plan view. Unequal Bi-Part Door Leaf Configurations For bi-part door leaf configurations, Bi-Part Swing, Bi-Part Pocket, Double Acting and Bi-Fold Bi-Part, you can now choose to have unequal leaf sizes. You define the width of one leaf, the other is calculated for you. Door Threshold Extension You can now define a Threshold Extension to be added to both sides of the threshold to extend it beyond the inner border of the jamb. The 2D threshold polygon now has a proper solid fill. Door Muntin Depth Options The Window tool always allowed the user to define the depth of the muntin bars. The door did not. Now you can. New Opening Configuration for Doors and Windows A new configuration called Opening is now available for Doors, Windows and Corner Windows. This will create no infill geometry for your object. You will get what I call a "Fred Flintstone" window, just a whole in the wall. Can also be used to create simple archway opening in walls. Consistent Component Wrap Points When changing a door or window's width and component wrapping is on, the components will now stay in the same relative spot they were in. Make your door or window wider or thinner, you component wrap will remain the same. Some additional work has been done to resolve certain cap line issues and hatch rotation issues. Net Glazed Area Net Glazed Area now shows in the dialog as a proper area value. This is done with a new parameter. This is also available in worksheets, but you need to place a new parameter there. No need to make calculations to have the NGA show properly in worksheets. The old parameter is still there for backwards compatibility purposes. Enjoy!
  8. The On Schedule field will be used if you create your schedule via the Tools - Reports - VA Create Schedule command. It already has criteria built in to show only those door show On Schedule field is checked. The same will apply to windows. If you are creating your own worksheet, you will have to add the criteria yourself. The criteria you will need to create is in the format of =DATABASE(((R IN ['Door']) & ('Door'.'OnSched'=TRUE))) Which you can create with the following settings in the screen shot. Hope this helps,
  9. Just to verify...the RO dimensions are calculated fields. Same with masonry module and net glazed area. This is why they appear in the data tab of the door and window settings dialogs and you can not edit the values there either. Worksheets don't really know this fact...they only see fields. The "read only" factor is controlled from within the door or window.
  10. I've had to hold off a day on a reply, but Vectorworks 2011 allows your trim under sill and trim under stool for corner windows.
  11. Not all the fields that are in the database are exported back to Vectorworks when you create a plant list. Only those that you see in the 'Plant Data' tab of the 'Edit Plant Definition' dialog are there. So even if you imported the data correctly from your excel sheet, verify that they show in the database and create a new plant list, your price information does not get sent back out. This is why your price is not showing up back in Vectorworks. The only workaround for this is to copy the price into one of the 3 comment fields which do get built into the plant lists, then grab that data and move it to the price on definition tab.

  13. Bring up the window settings dialog from the Object Info Palette. From there, navigate to the View tab. In the section marked Special Classes, you will be able to choose various elements of the window and a class to use for each. To configure the classes, you must use the Organization dialog (found by default with the menu item Tools | Organization). There you can define the textures you wish to use for each class. As a side note, the same methodology applies to the Door PIO. If you need more information than this, let me know.
  14. When adding new plants to the FileMaker based plant database, you must generate new plant lists for Vectorworks to make use of. You can find this command in the file menu of the database. The list generated contains all the plant in the current found set of records. So if you only want a list of our azaleas, for example, do a search that fives you only those plant, create a new plant list and Vectorworks should now show the new list in the drop down menu in the plant info dialog. I hope this helps out. If you need more information than this, just drop a line.
  15. You are not limited to 90 degree angles. The corner window will miter to the line of the wall, so really any angle should work. The window will only miter on one side, so it will not stretch to the width of the entire wall. This has already been requested as a wish several times through the beta process, and please fell free to add your name to the list. Here is a sample at around 45 degrees, along with trim, sill and a transom.
  16. I'm not sure how you're doing it with 2009, but here is general information on the 2010 Corner Window feature. The Window PIO now has a corner window option. The window will automatically lock into the closest corner, clip and miter in 2D and 3D. You still need 2 windows objects to do it. You have 3 Options: Fixed glass, mitered sash and corner post (with setting the size and offset of the corner post). All sashes are fixed glass.
  17. To verify: Pat is correct. The swing is represented by an arc only. There is no current setting to change this.
  18. Just to verify, this is correct. If you don't see the plug-in listed in the VectorScript editor, you can't make any changes with that tool. Right now, the only fields you can change are the ones that appear in the door's related xml file. The names used for the user fields, and the default setting for hinge preference. I specifically built the xml file with all usable fields.
  19. Like many other resources, the door PIO will first look at the user folder for the xml file, then any workgroup folders, and finally in the application folder. If you remove this file from your user folder and place it in a shared workgroup folder, then have all users configured for that folder as a workgroup folder, they should get the change.
  20. Hi Mitch, In you user folder, you can find the following file: Plug-ins\Common\Data\DoorPreferences.xml There you can customize the names of the user fields. Find the user field you would like to customize, for example, for user field 1, find: UserFld1 Add what you would like for the name, in your case, I believe, Door Type. It would then read: UserFld1 Door Type In the door settings dialog, it will now show as Door Type. One drawback though: If you create a worksheet and want this to you, you will need to manually edit the header line to also read Door Type. This is a simple edit in the worksheet itself. I how this helps. Let me know if you need more.
  21. Uli, One thing you should do as you use the plant database more and more is learn how to creatively search. The better your searching criteria, the better your plant list will be. A plant list is generated from all plants in the current search result. One of the recommended practices is to build a plant list for specific projects, not just based on category. This will allow you find the plants you need in Vectorworks faster. There are several fields available that you can use for tagging you plants for specific projects and needs, so make use of them.
  22. If the wall has no texture, and the windows and doors have no texture, then everything will blend together. Try setting Show 3D Open to true, or adding a texture class to the jamb and see if this differentiates the objects.
  23. I have some further ideas. First thing is to check exactly wherethe application thinks it should go to access the database. For this you should check your saved settings.xml file in you user folder. Search for the PlantDBLocation entry. Second: If you copied that database to your server, which OS did you use. If you copied it from a Windows system and then tried to access it from a Mac, there will probably be a problem with missing files. Try the following steps: 1) Copy all the files from a Windows install to your server location. When choosing a folder, make sure you maintain the folder structure of /Plant Database/VW Plants. This is important. Vectorworks will do this for you if you allow it to setup the database. 2) Go to a Mac install. In the application's plant database folder, there is a packed file called 'VW Plants.app'. It may just show as 'VW Plants' in the finder. Copy that also to you server folder. 3) From Vectorworks, choose this folder as a workgroup folder, if it is not already configured as such. 4) Now try selecting this folder as your plant database folder. Please update on how this goes.
  24. If you give a little more information, I might be able to help out. What OS are you running on? Does each user have the proper permissions to access the network folder you are referencing? Verify that the entire database is in the folder you have chosen. Let Vectorworks do the copying for you. In your folder you should have both a 'VW Plants.usr' file and 'VW Plants' executable (.exe on Windows, and an application package on Mac). After choosing the folder, go to your user preferences dialog and verify that the database folder was added as a workgroup folder.
  25. Just to confirm, those are the correct fields for Door and Window respectively.
