  1. The whole Layer/Screen Plane issue has never really been resolved, it's so far behind other CAD programs. Even the less expensive end of the market has this sorted. It is basic structure like this that is holding VW back in the market, and indeed from the user point of view.
  2. It would be good to have an option that links the original object with it's mirror so that any editing in the original will show up in the mirrored copy. I know you can do this with symbols but it is a convoluted and often problematic method when editing a symbol
  3. ....and what about 3D objects, after all this is 2013!!!!!!!
  4. ....yes but 3D chamfers are not part of the modelling history so if the hole needs to be altered you have to ungroup the chamfer to be able to move the hole and then re-apply it. A real pain when there are different hole sizes on one object

As a PDF generator it's jolly good but dimensioning has no snap points and you still can't see what's under your finger when marking up, so still missing some basics. There are also a surprise number of fonts that are unsupported and I get a lot of 'bleed through' with OpenGL rendering i.e. lines appearing that should not be seen.
  6. No, as far as I'm aware there isn't. There should be though, in fact the layer/screen plane really needs sorting out
  7. You are definitely not alone, it's a nightmare. The implementation of Planes is the biggest mess in VW for years
  8. This usually means you're not on the active layer that the objects are on or they're different layers
  9. I get this occasionally, often with the Flyover Tool. I get round it by using the Pan Tool a small amount and that seems to re-draw/update the screen. If you're using a Mac there are those who will say it is down to your video card but I don't think that is correct as I use other 3D software sometimes through Parallels/windows 7 and I have never had that problem and yet it is the same system. Can you fill out your signature (My Stuff>Edit Profile) near the top of the window so we can see what computer specs you're using?
  10. You can apply a texture to a 3D polygon i.e. Frosted Glass and alter the transparency settings through the Resource Browser.
  11. Apologies. Parametric 3D constraints are also a long wished for feature, sadly we are still waiting! If you edit the Hybrid Symbol you can change the appearance of the 3D and the 2D view. Have a look at this for the Symbol question
  12. The parametric constraints should work in Perspective View but only if the objects and dimensions are 2D and on the same plane. I drew this rectangle and then dimensioned it in Screen Plane and then put both items on a 3D plane using the OIP. When the rectangle is altered the dimension updates. 3D associative dimensions have been on the wish list for a few years now but alas it is not deemed important enough to instigate, which is odd as the world seems to be using, or at least moving towards a complete 3D workflow.
  13. Agreed. (Flat head screws are usually called countersunk in the UK, set screws are grub screws etc) Placing fasteners on a working plane also needs improving. The workaround of clicking backwards and forwards between working planes is time consuming and even then you need to rotate the plane as the fastener is placed along the y-axis. Why not the z-axis as that is perpendicular to the working plane? We should be able to use the 'automatic' plane option for fastener insertion.
  14. I've had this before and although the 'grips' are offset they were all offset by the same degree and therefore accurate to each other so tracing over them did give the right results if not lined up wit the image.
  15. Have a look in the VW Help under 'Workgroup Referencing' it may help you get started.
  16. It the switching between planes that I'd like to be able to 'shortcut' The Layer/Working Plane is not properly sorted to do without the 'Screen Plane' mode. (As mentioned earlier in this thread) Is there a way to set a shortcut to select different plane modes?
  17. I've tried this while dimensioning in right view & screen aligned and the dimension snaps 'across' the planes and 'into' the screen, which is not helpful. I still find that I have to select screen plane to get the dimension to work. In fact I spend too much time selecting plane modes which is a blip in any work flow. Why have cheaper less complex CAD packages sorted this out and not VW and why is it such a mess? Perhaps the software engineers should actually consult real life users to get this sorted.
  18. I would like to know this too. I seems to have a life of it's own
  19. No I have only had success with the viewport method, which I agree, is tedious. I think most users agree that worksheets need a lot of updating.
  20. I have had success with opening 'illegal' VW drawings in VW2011 and then saving and re-opening in VW2013. VW2012 won't work so you will need 2011 or earlier.
