  1. Ok thank you all - making some progress! I managed to modify site model (using all of the above pointers - Object from Shape for pad, created a wall using Polyline and Object from Shape, then converted that to a Stepped Wall.) Now here's the rub... !n the attached screenshot I have sketched in 2 retaining walls - one using the above method, and the other using the Landscape Wall Arc tool - what I'm after is something like a combo of the 2, i.e. a single depth (15"x12"x6" modular "Earthstone" block) stepped retaining wall with a 25? batter into the hillside. Any thoughts on that!!? Lastly, 2D coloured contour still displays solid black (max elevation color) instead of graded green contours. Having to stick with 2D contours only. Thanks once again for your generous support and guidance which is deeply appreciated
  2. I did post a couple up top, here they are again - not sure if any other view would support the questions?
  3. Yes, site model 2d and 3d are both set to proposed, and elevation of created walls by each method is proximate - yet no modification to site model. also the issue with joining the curved walls would be good to resolve as I then wish to create a stepped retaining wall (down to lower elevation at front ends.) I can try this using above suggested polyline tool, but not sure that's going to change the basic problem of non modification of site model... (I then also have to figure out how to angle this wall (at 25?) - I tried this with the Landscape Arc Wall tool which gives me pitch options in the info palette, but that automatically sets base depth.) There's also this issue of site model showing through floors of structure and colored elevations showing solid black (all max elevation instead colored contours) Any thoughts on that stuff!? Thanks
  4. Thank you J - I saw that approach, but did not yet try it and I will - sounds the right way for my purposes - however using the other tools, I did update the site model which did not produce any effect re modifiers.
  5. Howdy folks. Trouble and 3D and me: Have tried available methods to create a retaining wall (including Landscape Wall Tools,) placing various walls on site model layer, and adjusting elevation in 3D section view to align with ground level / sending to surface, but no modification is made to the site model - no contour change, no cut or fill. What could I be missing? In attached screen shot 1, the selected curved wall will not join with adjacent curved walls (at same elevation.) No error reported, undo reports "undo join", yet no join ever seems to have occured. Regardless, creating a retaining wall from single curved section does not produce any site modification as above either. In attached screen shot 2, the building floors do not overrule / modify site model which is visible through the structure. When the 2D contour style is set for colored elevation, the site model is filled in solid black - a reflection of the max elevation color set in the Site Analysis tab of Site Model Settings>Graphics - no pretty 3D grading Any thoughts? Thank you! Nik
  6. Sorry, I'm trying to figure this out. You say all dimensioning and text/labels should be on their own presentation layer - what do you mean by presentation layer? 'Classes' and 'Saved Views' aside, I have 'Design Layers', 'Sheet Layers' and 'Viewports'. As far as I am understanding, for an exported drawing to be intelligible, each design layer must be exported individually, so how should you export a drawing with relevant dimensioning maintaining appropriate scales and proportions? Thank you
  7. right, thank you, I got that much, but the resulting dwg's were still not correct as outlined.
  8. Admitting that I may not entirely have grasped proper use of design/sheet layers and viewports which may be relevant (?) Attached screen shot "exported" shows a drawing (viewport) I want to send to an engineer working in AC and he says he gets a garbled pile up of (8+) undifferentiated layers. So saving each sheet as an individual dwg., if I re-import that same dwg into a blank file, I see the viewport, but text is miniaturized. If I double click to edit design layer, I get a splodge of hugely bloated line weight much like the attached screenshot "imported2" which is infact what I got back from the engineer after his corrections. "Imported1" shows layers scattered and scale off the paper. Each time I get a drawing back from another office, it's variations on the same theme. But one of the usual suspect are arrows heads detached from their lines/callouts blown up to relative monster proportions. Scarey stuff. (I'm afraid to take on a new large project based in AC, daunted by these issues of going back and forth with other offices and disgruntled PC People. Doesn't help this fool's credibility) I'm working in VW12 (till I get untamed Leopard permission issues resolved so I can update to 12.5)
  9. Autobot's post asks for a solution for us all - a map to navigate the perennial problem. I've gleaned snippets of info from here and there and the odd tutorial, but nothing seems to address all the apparent variables that seem to throw a spanner in the translation works nor the various work arounds that will facilitate working with other offices. It would be a shame to take this query of the board or at least it would be great to keep the discussion public aswell, as that's why we're all here!? I do hear what you are saying, Katie, and don't mean to speak out of turn, but maybe those fine tunings might be of help to us too??? This remains a major issue for many of us and a comprehensive list/map of workarounds is critical until such time as the import/export functions actually work seamlessly as intended. For reference, I'll post my own particular issues as a separate thread (with screen shots - it ain't pretty (and does nothing to please the mind of an engineer working in AC!)) Thanks
