  1. I agree with Josh- I always use the complex wall in the model layer, then turn them off in the sheet layer for clarity. But it allows me to dimension to face of stud. It also helps very much in section and details, when all the complex information is visible
  2. Hi- Im working with an interior designer that would like just my sheet layers of interior elevations. She happens to be using an earlier version of vectorworks. Can sheet layers be exported without also including all the model layers that generated these elevations? (my understanding is that its not possible) I am hesitant to spend the time cleaning up my file of 20+ model layers in order to send just those needed for the elevations. Some info may not transfer accurately between my 2014 version and her 2013 version I sent pdf, but I was wondering if there is another format which would make it possible to work with individual drawings on the sheet I also tried converting the drawing to lines before sending - is there a better option? Thanks Tali
  3. I had a similar experience - after sequentially hiding classes and objects (took me a few hours) i eventually found one hybrid symbol that was causing the problem. A toilet from the kohler library was too 'heavy' to update all the VP's. This symbol appeared in several bathrooms, and I was using Section VPs for interior elevations. (your issue may be unrelated.... ) best of luck
  4. I followed a webinar on how to set up a 'favorite' library on the resource browser.I did this on my desktop. I can't access it from my laptop. What I did was open a VW file called 'favorites' and imported text styles, wall styles symbols etc. . Since this file is on my desktop - how do I access it from my laptop? How do I save it somewhere that it doesn't disappear if the computer crashes? I think I don't understand 'Users' Thanks Tali
  5. Hi- Does Vectorworks carry a library for ADA grab bar types? Thanks
  6. Hi Jonathan - (I've watched a few of your podcasts and followed one of your training manuals - love the clarity of your presentations!) I see the viewport - when I select it with the Selection Tool, OIP shows Class is None One of the hidden classes (custom named) will allow me to edit the viewport. But I'm not able to change the Class of the viewport. So, being early enough in the process, and thanks to you I found how to edit the viewport, I saved all the annotations, and placed new viewports I created in the None class.
  7. Bugman - I think you're getting close. I have a file of the existing, then I make a copy of that and get to work. Almost everything (especially walls, plumbing fixtures, roofs) gets classed with either a E, D, or N appendage. everything set to 'Use class Attributes' where possible. Existing is usually displayed white fill black lines Demo with no fill and dashed lines New with grey fill and black lines Working on one layer per floor level Walls get reclassed when they move from existing to demo. (OIP) Sheets get the same viewports with different classes turned on or off If I need to, I can see in one view the demo walls and the new walls. Or an elevation that shows old roof lines and new 2nd story. (needs careful classification and maybe editing classes in the viewports)
  8. I installed 2013 last week and read up on most of the new features, but haven't seen a reference to this problem: I used "Create Viewport" to create a viewport of a plan, the same as I used to do in 2012. Now its on a sheet and I cannot edit it - I don't get the dashed red outline to grab on to. I can only highlight through the navigation tool, but I can't do anything with it. True of Site Plans and Floor Plans. Section VP are working fine - they were created from the plan VPs. Elevation VP was created by duplicating a plan VP and showing in front view - there is no problem editing those. Is there a new procedure in 2013 I'm not familiar with? Is there a way to save this back to 2012 so I can be productive for tomorrows meeting? Thanks
  9. Hi- I'm working on a 2 story residence, overall 3000sf, and at completion of CD my file size is 376MB - thats huge. The program is sluggish, and has a hard time regenerating. I'm usually at 100MB for this size project I copied the file and carefully went through purging and deleting to find the memory hogs: On my title sheet I have an isometric in hidden line rendering, no sketch, no textures, no backgrounds - when I deleted it i dropped 130MB (that is totally out of whack, right?) I then deleted each of 4 building elevations and found the front and back were 20 MB each, and left and right were 45 MB each. Also, just hidden line. (from the same design layers - why would they be different?) Sections, derived from the drawings were only about 0.5 MB each So? Is there a lighter way to generate elevations? This hasn't been a problem in the past. I also tried modify>convert_to_lines on the iso - didn't work. I lost some of the lines and it only dropped by a neglible amount. Without the iso's and elevations and sections - the file is 72 MB (is that considered large without all the renderings? shall I continue tinkering?) Thanks for your ideas. Tali If this post should go on a different forum, please let me know!
  10. Hi all I'm using the ID tool to tag equipment in a small residence (water heater, furnace, etc) I can fill in all fields in the ID tag window, and in the OIP for that instance - but none of it is saved. None of it gets transferred to the Equipment Schedule. Is that schedule just an empty worksheet that I can use to fill in data, or am I missing a way to link to it from the drawings? The equipment is drawn on the design layer in the Equip-main class, some of it is auto-classed. The ID tool is placed in the viewport, but it attaches to the object. Thanks in advance for any tips Tali
  11. wondering if this can be another workaround - if all door type A are sorted on the schedule - can the relevant data be changed with a 'copy' - 'paste'? - Shcedule data should transfer to plan My schedules are for a single family house, so fairly short and not a big issue Tali
  12. Just picked up this thread and exactly what I needed - thanks. Are the steps to save the worksheet as a menu item the same? (substituting 2011, I assume) Tali
  13. thanks that seems to be it Tali
  14. What is the big green rectangle that shows up on my model layer? I though it was the crop reference, but it's not in the same location. I exported a pdf and it shows up there- how to get rid of it? thanks
  15. I'm trying to post the file, but seems to not work
  16. thanks - I did copy and paste into a new file, and it seems fine. This project is still early phases, so no major time lost. Its also happening on a project I've been working on for 3 months, and due for deadline end of coming week. I just did linework for those walls in the viewport plan, since they show up OK on interior elevations and sections... Any suggestions for dealing with this when your file has 15 sheets laid out with umpteen viewports, schedules, etc? thanks again
  17. yes -I've tried redrawing them, I've tried the eye-dropper tool from walls that are showing but nothing. I've tried deleting the wall, saving and exiting the file, opening again and redrawing the wall - still not there in the viewport - even if I use a different wall style, or a different class If i show all wall component classes - they are there, but if I hide the wall component classes, some walls disappear, and others show the wall with no component lines (which is what i want for a 1/4" scale plan). I've even checked to see if I have some 'ghost' hovering over that area... I've tried assigning a different class to these walls. And its totally random on the page. some exterior walls, some interior walls. One particular very small plan (garage + bathroom) only the interior walls that are vertical on the screen don't show - horizontal ones do. Help? This file updated from 2009. The walls were there in 2009....
  18. Hi - I'm having difficulty with walls disappearing in the viewport. They are the same walls style and class as others, some will transfer to viewport and some won't. On a whole floor plan I will get 4 walls that don't transfer, on different areas in the plan. Any idea why this happens? thanks Tali
  19. Since installing 2009 a few months ago - I can't get a full screen guide line when I use the 2D locus tool. (very frustrating when I need to line up things) I also can't find all the standard Resources libraries that I have in 2008. Anyone else dealing with this - or will it all come back in 2010? thanks
  20. have you tried creating a symbol of about 4 shingles, then tiling it? used to work in 2008. not sure yet for 2009
  21. oops - not so great.... I need Quartz imaging off, because the font I'm using (tekton, by Adobe) needs it off in order to kern properly.... greying the layer or class does not work. any other ideas to get a faint survey with a dark site plan? thanks t
  22. yayyyyy! trying to follow all your ideas - never worked with opacity before and turns out I need Quartz imaging on. then i could play with opacity of the original design layer. thanks so much! t
  23. Hi all- I imported a site survey, sent to me in pdf from the surveyor. I would like to see it greyed on the sheet layer. I've tried to grey the design layer, I've tried to grey the visibility in the viewport, but it retains the black lines. any suggestions? any other graphic tricks to reduce the visual impact of the survey? it's on its own design layer. thanks t
  24. I am trying to tile a 'rock' symbol in a freeshape polyline to show 2d outdoor patio paving. A little window pops up that says only rectangles or polygons may be tiled. I work around this by editing the 2D symbol and erasing the lines outside the polyline - is there a better way? a better tool? I thought it may be due to the polyline not being 'closed', but even a circle can't be tiled. thanks tali
  25. Allison - on the off chance - check TOOLS>SET GRID - and check if your Snap Grid is set too large for you to get accurate. Tali
