  1. This is fairly straightforward:

    1. From VW select Landmark/VW Plant Database

    2. In the Plant DB make sure that you select the Plant Data Layout

    3. For each plant you want Mark as Favorite (middle top box)

    4. Select Search (the little magnifying glass)

    5. Check the Mark as Favorite box and click Find

    6. Select File/Create Vectorworks Plant List

    7. Name the file 1-Favorites (the 1 will force it to the top of the selection list in VW plant definitions and it will always open these first)

  2. This function seems to work fine for me in 2009. Two probably dumb questions:

    - Are you sure the header lines are showing when you try to sum and

    - Are you summing the field (e.g. Plant ID) rather than the quantity?

Otherwise, posting a copy of the file here might help.

  3. tguy - Not sure what you are referring to. The Z settings do determine where the object "hangs in space, which would appear to be the same as the Z coordinate. Of course, you only see the offset between layers when Stack Layers is active.

  4. If the beds are rectangular, you can rotate the plan prior to placing each bed. The orientation will be maintained when you return to top/plan view unless (as pointed out above) you change the plants. If your beds are irregular polygons or curves, the only options I can think of is to use the landscape area tool, or place them manually.

  5. Unfortunately, I believe the function you need - Issue Manager - is only included in the Design series. In that software version any field name preceded with a "P_" can be entered in the File/Issue Manger and will update all occurrences of that field.

As to the comment about line weights, if you change the border object to assign line weight by clas, you can assign the border objects to a Border calss and change the line weights at will rather than accepting the default 0.70.

  6. I agree that being able to use Excel functionality in VW would be ideal, unfortunately that is a wish list item. You can however import Excel data into a blank work sheet in VW. The Excel file must first be saved as a tab delimited .txt file. It can then be imported into an active VW work sheet. Note that any formulas would be lost and only the resultant data would be posted.

  7. As I noted above, you can have GDI on and use specialized fonts. The only thing affected is the display of the font. So if you need GDI for opacity control, turn it on to set opacity. Then, if you want to see the fonts as they will print, just turn GDI off (remember to turn it back on again before you print). I usually just leave GDI on unless I absolutely need to see the font I use (Graphite Std.) for tight text placement, etc.
