  1. Hi All, This ones been bugging me for years and I'm sure its very simple, but never worked it out. How do I edit handles for an existing curve? i.e. see screenshots attached, the handles only appear when the point is selected, so I can't select them. Thanks, A
  2. Great to hear! Still using 2019 at the moment, looking forwards to moving to 2020 when starting a new project.
  3. Well a promise is a promise! On a more practical side, here is a consolidated list of suggestions for anyone looking in the future (shout me if I missed any). Selection Tool (X) Double Click Paste in Place Escape (x2) to exit text editing etc. Move by Points Undo / Redo Open GL (and other render mode options) cmd-[ and cmd-] (previous and next layers etc.) Activate class Flyover mode Camera (top down plan, perspectives, etc.) Zoom to Objects / page area Toggle mode (left, right) Duplicate Array Select Similar Find and modify
  4. Good evening all - as promised! Thanks to you all for your tips (or pointers should I say), on using my mouse in a more effective way. I've tried them all out, there were quite a few, from move-by-points to flyover, activate and redo. Its hard to pick a winner, I'd like to use them all, I wish I had a bigger mouse, now it seems a bit too small. But It is @Taproots top tip, about group modes hencewith, that I'll be picking to keep when I'm through. Cycling selection types, wall junctions, polygons and end caps, Theres a lot you can do changing modes forth and back. You've saved my arm from making some unnecessary movements, thanks once again for your suggested improvements. A
  5. So I've just got around to reviewing the latest couple of posts on here. I must admit I am impressed with the breadth of ideas people have come up with. This is going to be trickier than I thought! Judgement delayed once more so I can test a couple of the newest suggestions..
  6. Hi All, Will give this a couple more days until Monday, but have been testing a couple of these today and possibly have a winner in mind 😉
  7. Thanks for all the responses so far - Some good ideas, I can see I'm going to have to test a couple of them out (and might wish I had more buttons).. I'll wait until this time tomorrow before setting up a poll and/or announcing a winner!
  8. Throw down as many as you can be bothered to type! Ideally ones that you may already be using yourself and find time saving on a day to day basis..
  9. Hi All - Short and sweet for this one.. I have a new mouse with a couple of spare buttons. Any recommendations for the most useful Vectorworks commands or scripts to map to these buttons? Prize for the most useful answer/winner (I shall write you a poem) A
  10. @Kevin Allen the issue is that we have some 80-ish wall styles, and some of them look very similar. Its a very large project so at the scale they are shown on the page some of the wall styles are not clear which side is which. We have a lot of other layers of information on the pages to display too, so the pages are very busy. It doesn't help that the project incorporates areas of two seperate listed buildings (dating back to the 1800s), so we are coming across all sorts of existing walls we have to incorporate and no two are apparently the same! Thanks @Pat Stanford that looks like a workable solution, will give it a try!
  11. Hi @Kevin Allen Thanks for your suggestion - We do use a system like that, but unfortunately doesn't work in the scenario we're currently facing. We need to show graphically a difference between both sides of a wall style on plans; ideally with a mark of some kind. There is so much information on the page (hundreds of walls for a start) that what we really need is a little 'x' or mark on one side of every wall to show its orientation. @Pat Stanford Yes I was thinking something along these lines but not sure how to achieve it. Our GA plans are at 1:50 which is enough to show the various wall layers in the buildup (just about) but not clear enough to work out which side is which in some scenarios. I did consider adding another layer to the wall buildup on one side, perhaps with a very sparse hatch which would just show up as the occasional mark.. not ideal though I was hoping there is a hidden setting somewhere which would automate this process for me!
  12. Hi All, Is anyone aware of a quick, clear and easy way to display wall orientation on drawings? We have a set of about 20 GA plans, walls drawn using the wall tool and correctly set up with wall styles. The Contractor has asked us to show clearly on our plans which orientation the walls are in (for instance; a wall which looks in plan identical on both sides, but one side is moisture resistant plasterboard and the other is not). Any tips or workarounds also appreciated, anything that saves us going around and manually drawing a mark on the side of ever wall.. Thanks! A
  13. Thanks for your responses @Luka Stefanovic all good to hear! Particularly looking forwards to finding out more about the workflow for linking the NBS spec information - hopefully there will be some documentation/ seminars on this subject once released..?
  14. Hi All, 1- It would be great to have a plug-in/ module/ built in functionality, which would help us to calculate embodied carbon in our Vectorworks models. (Or by exporting our Vectorworks models/data from our models). For instance, Hawkins Brown have created a Revit plug-in to help with this. Is there a Vectorworks equivalent in the pipe-line? 2- As above, but for life cycle costing/ whole life carbon modelling 3- As above, but for linking Specification of materials to Vectorworks models 4- Further instruction and development of the Energos tool. Please also see my earlier related post (a bit more background info, and questioning what tools and workflows are already available..) Thanks! A
  15. It is surprising how little information is out there! At a time when energy efficiency and sustainable design are becoming hot topics, I'm amazed Nemetschek aren't making more of a song and dance out of the Energos tool..
  16. Will do - I'll reformat it slightly for wish list and put up in the morning!
  17. Hi All, Our practice has recently signed up to 'Architects Declare', and we're trying to take this commitment seriously. Some of the declarations we (and many other architects) have signed up to as part of this: 'Include life cycle costing, whole life carbon modelling and post occupancy evaluation as part of our basic scope of work, to reduce both embodied and operational resource use.' 'Accelerate the shift to low embodied carbon materials in all our work.' 'Minimise wasteful use of resources in architecture and urban planning, both in quantum and in detail.' In light of this: 1- Is there any plug-in, module, or functionality, which would help us to calculate embodied carbon in our Vectorworks models? (Or by exporting our Vectorworks models/data from our models). For instance, Hawkins Brown have created a Revit plug-in to help with this. Is there a Vectorworks equivalent available, or in the pipe-line? 2- As above, but for life cycle costing/ whole life carbon modelling 3- As above, but for linking Specification of materials to Vectorworks models 4- Is the Energos module useful/accurate? And is it still being developed? There is not much information available on this online, apart from a few short videos (mostly from 2016). If anybody has used this a detailed review of its capabilities, and maybe a real life use example would be great. Quite a broad question, generally we are trying to get a handle on any tools we can use to help us evaluate and create more sustainable/ low energy use/ low embodied carbon buildings. Thanks! A
  18. Did you ever get to the bottom of this? Somebody in our office is having a similar problem.
  19. Hi All, I'm just wondering if anybody has been using 2020 and how they have been finding it compared to 2019 in reality of day to day working? Now that SP2 is out we are considering making the jump but have been bitten by this before (2019 pretty much only stopped crashing for us at SP4/5). Specifically: - Any frequent crashing or significant bugs? - Has anybody noticed any speed improvements/decreases on bread and butter operations? (drawing, panning, etc.) - Any of the new functionality/workflow changes which is saving you a lot of time? - Our office is still all on Mojave but how is the Catalina compatibility getting on? I know some of these items are probably picked up in other threads but I'm looking for a current snapshot based on SP2 and its hard to seperate out the issues on older threads.. Thanks!
  20. Thanks @Christiaan - I can see there are actually a bunch of potentially useful items in the full update list - the less glamorous information management /IFC stuff sounds potentially very useful. But will depend on how well they have been implemented in reality versus the blurb.
  21. Is there somewhere with an official list of all the new/changed features? Surprised how this has snuck out today, can't see our office bothering to upgrade for a good while based on what I've seen so far..
  22. @Mark Aceto it is very frustrating. I have to use a Mac since it is provided by our office, but a better solution if you are in control of your own hardware is to just buy a Windows PC.. At least part of the fault here lies with Apple.
  23. I like the introduction of the Display detail levels in 2019, but do miss the old 'on/off' switch for wall components to display in a viewport. I'd like to see this returned as a simple control because: 1. Less prone to error/less opaque (If I turn the detail level down to low, what else may turn off in my drawing without me noticing it..?) 2. More customisability. You may want to display a viewport without the wall details, but with other details showing.
  24. I was just wondering along very similar lines myself. Perhaps I missed it, but the change from 2018 - 2019 with 'Display detail levels' kind of seemed to sneak in. I like the detail levels, but would rather have the old toggle 'on/off' for wall details to display in viewports.
