  1. Still a problem in 2016 SP3... was there any resolution?
  2. I managed to wiggle this around to get what I needed. Was hoping for something more variable, but this is already FAR more workable than the group of parts I was using, and much quicker than hunting up tutorials. Many many thanks! -J
  3. I'm looking for a tool that is exactly like the Revision Marker, but you can specify the shape of the bubble. (Alternatively, one that is a hexagon, and one that is a rounded rectangle.... I bet I could find use for one that is a circle too...) Does it exist already? Is it hidden? I can make one that's super simple, but I like the scaleability of the in-app tools. Thanks for any insight! -J (PS: I've not updated my signature yet... am in 2016 SP3)
  4. Hmmmmm.... would have to use "real" wall types then. Wonder if I can get the bosses on board with that...
  5. Hiya. I've got an ancient symbol for a wall type marker that my office has been using for YEARS. It's got a data field that was editable up through VW14. Now, the information palette data tab has no field to edit. Editing the symbol itself shows the text placeholder. Trying to use a proper symbol, which is editable in half the time than the option-K-group-edit I'm now forced to employ. And which seems tidier. Any way to update the symbol? Or find the old data field in a new place? Or is it just ... dead? Alternatively... what could I use as a new symbol that is text (2 characters) in a 45deg square with a line coming off one corner? Like a rectilinear lollypop, but rotate-able. Thanks much for any insight... apologies if my search-fu was insufficient to find any previous related discussions. Happy to post pix/files if that will help.
  6. In my drawing border symbol, the fonts are all correct. Today, duplicated sheet layers show up initially with proper font, but upon editing text records in the drawing border, all fonts change to the overall standard (we've one line of text in the titleblock that's a different font). Why? I've been messing with classes and attribute defaults, but I can't figure out how the font is defaulting? Thank you... EDIT: Have fixed the problem... It's something to do with line attributes set to "class style", but I still can't figure out how. Now I've removed all class-based attributes of that particular line of text I've managed to fix the issue... but how that relates to font I've no idea. Class settings don't seem to have a font-edit function. ??
  7. Excellent. Thank you. This all makes perfect sense.
  8. Why is each sheet layer an independent page setup? I want all sheet layers to change if I fix one page setup, please... or for someone to tell me why it's necessary to change each page setup individually? Or, please, for someone to tell me how to change all sheet layer page setups together? Thank you.
  9. Is it possible to change the lineweight of the wood graining in the "detail cut wood" tool? I found I could change the lineweight of the profile, but the graining was still too heavy.
  10. Repetitive unit is a ridiculously roundabout way to accomplish the same effect of a tool that already exists (the clothes rod) that could be modified to create a different look (a fence line). Besides, repetitive unit is grossly unsatisfactory in and of itself. I keep thinking that the dash styles could be editable or create-able in layers like hatches, which allows for all sorts of variation. Instead of x's or lines representing clothes hangers, one could place circles or anything else along a line that behaves like a line, and not a polygon that MUST be closed else repeated units shall float in the center, un-edit-ably, until you convert your repetitive unit object to a group, then edit the group and delete the floating units (or unwanted closed side). This is also the last resort to edit the units that won't orient properly along the path of the polygon. Which, in the end, rather defeats the purpose of the entire process by resulting in an inflexible group of independent bits (which is how I've been drawing fence lines, more quickly than figuring out the repetitive unit tool).
  11. Is there a preference setting? I've found where to limit dimensional tolerance, units tolerance... I'd like to be able to limit the space-tool dimensions to fractions at 1/2" I don't appear to have a "space" script to edit (tho the menu path you specified previously doesn't exist for me, either... the closest I found was tools>scripts>script plug-in editor).
  12. You're welcome... I'm a PNW webfoot who transplanted to the Deep South.
  13. You can edit the viewport's "advanced properties" (button at the bottom of the viewport properties palette) and change the dashed line scale. Or You can edit the dashed lines in file > document settings > dash styles. There is an option here to "scale with line thickness", whereby a thicker line gives you larger dashes, spaces and dots.
  14. Yeah, repetitive unit works, but it's squirrely and complex. This should be a simpler function. Why does the clothes rod tool exist, but a railroad line not?
  15. The clothes rod behaves appropriately; can a fence tool be added that behaves similarly? In lieu of the complex dashed-line request above, a "clothes rod" that has x's (tho preferably ones resembling hotspots rather than text) instead of hangers would satisfy me.
  16. me either... ? Gerard, can you post a more specific link or search term? Thanks.
  17. I've just been informed that I can do the same thing by creating a polygon (open; closed behaves strangely thru this process), converting from the polygon to a repetitive object, selecting the x from the symbols, and then editing the size of the symbol and the pitch of the repetition to achieve the desired effect. I would infinitely prefer to select a line with x's on from the line attributes palette, and adjust the repetition and size thru the dashed line editor if necessary. If one could create a dashed line with x's on (perhaps multiple layers, like hatches, but in a dashed line? So, would be layer 1 dashed line, layer 2 leftpitched arm of x, layer 3 rightpitched arm of x...?), that could be quite spiffy also. Please? Thank you... -J
  18. Ok. I've had better luck making my own x symbol. The scale isn't the issue... I'm happy to mess with the scale of the symbol. Un-grouping the repetitive object thing takes me back to the group-of-a-million-objects that I'm trying to avoid. I'll cope without the x at each end of the line... since it's a symbol, I can just add 'em as needed. Thanks for your help.
  19. Aha... was layer colors. Thanks very much.
  20. so.... I've got a drawing border object that I created some time ago. It's been working fine since September or so. I used it in a new file today, and all the colors are gone. VW Preferences are not set to B&W only. When I edit the symbol, the colors appear in the OIP as tho the object were, in fact, in those colors... they just don't appear. Filled rectangles are white, lines are black, and neither of them are orange like they're supposed to be. The only other place I know to set things to B&W is the viewports, which are set that way but shouldn't affect the tb/db? Thanks. -J
  21. I seek a line with an x at each end, and x's spaced (reasonably) regularly along the length that are tied to the line and that all behaves like a line. Is there a script someone's written? An easier way than making an x and duplicating it along the length of the line, and then grouping all the bits together? A hidden x-line type? I sorta think I had one back in v.9 or 10, after poking at the dashed line editor for ages... but I've forgotten if/how that happened. Thanks much... -J
  22. I'm currently creating lots of files and referencing them... 1st floor plan 2nd floor plan (ref'd 1st floor plan) exterior elevations (ref'd 1st and 2nd floor plans) interior elevations (ref'd 1st and 2nd floor plans) sections and details (ref'd 1st, 2nd plans and exterior elevations) sheets (ref'd all above files) Is this what's meant by "workgroup"? I'm still feeling like this process is quite clunky, and I'm hoping that someone who's done this before can advise.... I'm not having any luck referencing things back to each other... I can't reference the 2nd floor plan on the 1st floor plan if the 1st floor plan file is referenced in the 2nd Floor file, so changes on the 2nd floor plan won't be visible on 2nd fl ref on 1st floor file due to a duplication of viewport properties or somesuch. which both makes sense and doesn't at the same time. I'm not interested in referencing the 1st floor reference of the 2nd floor file... just want to reference 2nd floor into 1st floor file (are you as confused as I am now?). If this must stand (above list of files, references, and the issues of the above paragraph), then that means all changes start at the plan level and move up the line, and there's no flexibility to move back down the files if a detail requires a plan change later (at least via references.........) I'm also having issues setting up my sheets file, as the layers and model must be set up the same way (even if there's no model in the sheet file), and the references must be placed in the correct z planes so that the stairs work out properly... otherwise they show "floor to floor height does not allow risers and stairs to exist the way you've drawn 'em in the master files sucker... good luck figuring it out!" Or something to that effect. Granted, I'm only about 8 hours into figuring all this out, and I'm probly not understanding "help" as well as I could be. I'd love to hear if I'm way off base, if I'm headed in the right direction, if this is even the issue, or if there's some other function meant by "workgroup" that makes this all work more easily (which is rather implied by the term, tho I haven't found that button in a palette or toolbar ). Regarding sheet vs. design layers when doing what I'm describing above, it's become clear that one cannot create a reference viewport in a sheet layer. One must create a design layer for the reference viewport. If you wish the reference viewport to exist on a sheet layer, another viewport must be created per the usual method to display the design layer on which you've placed the reference viewport.
  23. ditto... need help please. We're working fairly small projects, but still need to figure this out. Helllllp! Thanks...
  24. So, if three colleagues were to be working simultaneously on the same project (one fixing plans, another fixing exterior elevations, and a third fixing up page layouts)... How does this work? I'm assuming that several files can reference each other (plans, sections, interior elevations, exterior elevations, site, ?), with everything referenced into a file that's just the sheets... or, is there an easier way to do it? Our office is about to set standards, and I'd like to be able to present a workable option that's not "create one file for each sheet" (gah!) Thank you...
  25. To add a bug to the list: After upgrading the OS (not by my choice, thanks) classes are un-editable for me in any way. Sometimes I can open the window to edit classes, sometimes it crashes my program. I can't add a class without crashing the program. I can't select classes. I am experiencing this as well as the hatches-on-ruler, hatches covering the newly-exposed area of a drawing during panning, invisible lines and objects during drawing and moving, and some corrupted files. I'm not intending to join the to-upgrade-or-not debate, but this seemed the most likely thread (on approx. 10 min review of forum) to post my experience/bug in.
