  1. After installing SP1 - SP4 I'm having long delays when rendering viewports. But i've found that changing to a non-modified workspace improves the rendering speed dramatically.
  2. Sadly, the answer is no. I do miss something like MS Office cmd+y.
  3. I appreciate your input, Islandmon, but my problem is when after I double-click the last dimensioning line I want to change the precision in the OIP. But now the OIP menu is disabled. Also, after some testing with selecting dimension lines I see that the behavior of the OIP precision menu is rather random. One time it's active and the next time, with the same dimensioning lines selected, it's disabled.
  4. I know but, this this does not affect dimensioning already in the drawing.
  5. Hi! When I try to change the precision of the constrained base-line dimensions its is not possible to do so until each dimensioning line has be selected one by one (shift-click). Is it just me or is it a bug?
  6. Google search Ask for the dxf-file.
  7. Yes, I am aware of the 3D limitations only this is a 2D circle.
  8. Radial dimensions are associated to a circle but not linear dimensions. Why??
  9. Hi, We had a similar issue on at Vista laptop. The fix was to uninstall, copy the installer to the local HD and install, I think.
  10. My impression is that improvement for the most part are made for the Architect version, and then "transfered" to MD. So that MD is basically a scaled down version of Architect, I think. What I would really like to see in future MD is that it becomes more intelligent. When I model a pipe, a RHS or a plate then MD should know this and the associated length and other properties, and generate the part list automatically. Also, working in 3D is cumbersome, even if it has improved in 2009. To model a pipe connected to a flange one has to set the view to be perpendicular to the flange face, create the pipe profile, extrude it and then move it to connect to the flange. I would rather be abel to select the pipe tool, set its parameters and point to the connecting flange.
  11. Bjarmi As VW MD user I feel like I am the lone wolf in a world of Inventor and Solidworks. No one else has ever heard of VW. But that does not really matter, if VW MD does the job for you, then stick with it, as I do. I don't know if it is possible to let the bubble pick up symbol info. May be with a script? I do use the detail bubble all the time, but only for generating the part list on the sheet. I put separate detail drawings of parts on separate sheets, or in separate drawings with reference to the main drawing.
  12. Hi Bjarmi, I'm in a similar situation, designing skids, frames, lifting equipment and conveyor systems. I model/draw the detailed fabrication drawings with parts list and export parts to cnc-cutting and machining. VW MD does all this, and if you like me use only about 10% of you time on this, then VW MD does a OK job. But, if designing and drawing is what you do then VW MD is to lightweight, I think. VW MD does not give you much of mechanical tools over VW Architect, or VW Fundamentals for that matter. Go for Inventor or SolidWorks. Off course this is a matter of total cost. You have to consider efficiency, training, operational cost and so forth.
  13. Yet again I'm switching back to SP1. Rendering takes forever in both SP3 and SP2.
  14. The Detail Bubble does sequential numbering, if I understand you correct. You can modify the attached record to contain the data you need.
  15. Here is another reasonably priced unfolding application Revcad sheet metal unfolding software
  16. Framing member tool is Architect and Landmark only. In my opinion this is a major shortcoming with MD, you pay a premium price but you only get a scaled down Architect version, almost. Architect PIO's like windows and doors are both 2D and 3D, why not those most used in Machine Design? Sorry, maybe it is time for me to switch to Solidworks or Inventor
  17. To get Inventor parts or assemblies to VW you need to export them as IGES or SAT files. Import the IGES/SAT files in VW.
  18. Hi, I noticed after applying SP2 that viewport rendering is significantly slower than in SP1. In one drawing render time increased from 30 sec. to 90 sec. I did try reinstalling VW from scratch and reapplying SP2 but rendering was still as slow as before. Reinstalling SP1 and render speed is back to normal again. I guess I'll just stay with SP1 for now.
  19. Hi, Does anyone know where to download Vectorworks Viewer 2009?
  20. After updating to VW2009 I have been browsing the "Vectorworks 2009 Your Guide to What's New" for new features. I find there are some new useful OpenGL features; "Interactive OpenGL Shadows", "OpenGL Backgrounds" and "OpenGL Draw Edges". Only problem is I'm not able to activate any of these features. The options are grayed out in the OpenGL Options... dialog box and my Resource Browser have no option to create a new background. According to the guide the options are applicable to the complete VW product line. So my question is, is this a bug, do I have a weak graphics card or am I missing out on something?
  21. More weight! Same problem for me. Installer says no need for updating as I am already using the most current version available. SP1 is my version. ???
  22. When applying the Rotate tool to a 3D object there are 3 more options available; Standard, Alignment and Screen plane. Try to select the Screen plane option.
  23. I did find them! HEB is IPB and HEA is IPBI. Go figure!
  24. Tomu, thanks for replying OK, your method works, all thou a bit cumbersome. I would prefer a solution similar to Hole-Tapped. I didn't see any mentioning of new DIN shapes in the SP1 update notes. HE-beams are still missing. And the rather meaningless dialog box that pops up when first inserting a beam has not been improved, see picture.
