  1. Haydenovative, Thanks for the heads up on the wall being joined haven't tried it yet but will the next time I have a round wall. This might be similar to the bur I have been having in 2018 & 2019 that if you use the clip cube and do a RCP viewport and the rotate the viewport so the doors align with the plan viewport the door swing show 270º arc not the normal 90º. I have found if I turn off "Display 2d components" the arc no longer shows of course but it doesn't answer the bug on showing the correct door swing.
  2. Hello Kevin, Thanks for all your suggestions and a reminder to update my information. I did have the 3D conversion set to very high. Made sense to me to try and recreate this problem with a new blank file and if I started from scratch I couldn't reproduce it. Then I thought how about copying the wall into the new document and sure enough the same situation happened. See below screen shot. I then played around and removed the door and window from the wall changed their class placed them back in the wall and the circles disappeared but only temporary. So I thought I would share the wall so anyone that would like to work with it and see what they might be able to find. Dennis Wall test1.vwx
  3. Hello, I was curious if anyones else has seen this issue. I have a model that has several curved walls that I created using the "Round wall" tool. I was setting up a Plan view viewport and a RCP viewport on a a sheet layer. The viewports were created using the clip cube. The Plan view viewport looks fine other than the curve in Hidden Line render looks more like lots of small straight line segments compared to how it looks in the design layer. So I then created the RCP viewport, everything looked similar to the Plan view but to place in on the sheet with the same positioning as the Plan view I of course needed to rotate 180 degrees and then rotate horizontal. After I completed the rotations any round wall that has a window or door inserted now have two complete circles in the viewport showing the extends ( inside & outside of the wall ). If I remove the doors and windows the circles disappear, and as soon as I place them back in the wall the circles reappear. In the attached file you will noticed the the door swings on several of the doors show up 270 degrees not the normal 90 degrees.
  4. I discovered my problem. When asked to choose which version to download make sure you pick the one that matches the first letter of your serial number. I need to download the "E" version, not the "B" hope this helps.
  5. Hello, I just downloaded VW2018 and received my serial number via my Service Select account but when I go to use the installer my serial comes up as invalid. Has anyone else had the same situation happen to them.

  7. Hello, I have a worksheet that functions as a "Sheet Index" and I'm trying to simplify the criteria that shows the active sheets. Presently my sheets have a numbering system that places an "X-number" and when I ready to have them show up on the Index, I change the X-number to a letter different than X. The only way I have been able to make the sheets no so the I recalculate is to add the criteria (Layer/is not/X-and the exact number) for each sheet. I Would like to be able to specify all the "X-" and have them not show with a single criteria. I have tried Name, Field value etc.. but haven't figured out how to make this work. I'm asking this because for some reason the edit criteria dialog window will no longer let me keep doing this. It's seems to have a reached a limit to the number of criteria of 25, because if I try doing this for some additional sheets I have recently added the function no longer continues to work.   8. Zoomer, I thought about deleting the classes but you still can't scroll and chose all at one time if they have any sub-classes. At the moment this might work the best. I don't need to worry about Plugin Objects on the dwg import. I thought about "referencing" the file but it is shared and updating by different parties through out the process, and most haven't used "referencing" in there workflow. The dwg import layer is generally off and used only as a reference to the information on how the .vwx model was created from.
  9. Hello, I was wondering if there is a way to change the classes of the components that make up a symbol all at one time in multiple symbols? Not just editing the symbol and changing the class one at a time. I ask this because when I import some .dwg files the walls, doors, windows, etc.. import as symbols and often they have multiple lines and polygons. I can use the custom selection tool or just select all symbols and change the overall symbols classes to "0" or "none" but the components of the symbol still retain there original class say "New_A-STRS_Pen_No__2." I would like to have everything as a single class so I may then import into a working template and not have 500+ new classes added to the file. Is this possible and I'm just missing the correct approach using the Modification tool?
  10. I know this might seem silly but I have only began using Spotlight and I'm not a lighting designer so I don't have a full understanding of all the fixtures available. I was curious if anyone with greater experience with all the lights available in Spotlight, what would be the equivalent for presentation purposes as equivalent fixtures for Litepanels Hilio D12 and Litepanels Sola 12. There this is only for the overall shape and size so it can be place on some light bars. Thanks for any advice, I'm sure there are several that would work but I'm not sure where to begin looking.
  11. I am so happy with this addition to the 3d solids modeling toolset. I can see spending many hours learning all the nuances of the "edit subdivision" tool, but it will be worth it. I love the flowing freeform organic shapes that are created. Overall I believe 2016 is going to be a great surprise to a lot of people. I for one am excited.
  12. Benson & Kevin, Thanks for your replies and advice. Kevin after looking over your link, I realized I needed to increase my glow texture from 100 to 250 for the light to appear to be passing thru the panels. Thanks.
  13. I been trying to create some back lighted panels. For example using a 3Form panel that has a pattern and I would like for the render to look light is passing thru. Everything I have tried only seems to make the image file seem faded not be brighter. Any thoughts on how to create backlit panels. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  14. Peter & rDesign I agree that this is common enough that it should be part of the Door IPO, maybe in 2016. The moving glass wall is similar to what I'm talking about, but mine are wood doors. One reason for have two doors sliding to one direction is structural, that doors will not pocket both directions due to obstructions.
  15. I'm sure this is the limitations of the "Door Tool" and it can't be done easily, but I thought I would check to see if I was missing something. I need to create a pocket door that the two leafs slide into the same pocket, not a bi-part pocket door. I don't see any options to create this. Will I need to make a custom symbol from a simple pocket door? Any thoughts and help would be appreciated.
  16. Kevin, That's what I thought, maybe in future versions we will be able to rotate the position of the triangle around the path.

Hello, I'm trying to create a arched triangular truss using the curved truss tool, but I would like for one of the flat faces ( i.e. two of the channels/tubes ) to be level/even along the sides and top with the third channel/tube in the center pointing down is this possible? I only see "triangular" or "triangular points up" which just rotates a single tube/channel to the top front or back side. Seeing that trusses are draw via a center line I was hoping it is possible to rotate the profile around the center line path. Any thoughts or suggestion would be greatly appreciated, otherwise I'll probably have to create the truss from scratch. Thanks Here is a tip about curved trusses I learn via trail and error. Don't mirror them at the moment, if you are trying to create a circular truss, as you won't be able to position them correctly. You need to create all four trusses with the truss tool, then rotate them into position.
  18. Pat, The Extract and Analysis tool works only if I convert my rotated 2d line that is in the Z direction only to a nurbs curve. Then when I highlight the the curved surface first, next the nurbs curve/line and a 3d loci is placed where they intersect. Thanks for your advice. Dennis
  19. I was working on a project today that had curved surfaces (nurbs surfaces) and in plan view they are off set but not in a regular pattern and are then raised 6" above the lower surface. My question is how is it best to try to identify a point in 3d space? I used a 2d loci at the edges and the created a line the rotated it to the z axis 90 degrees and then tried to use front, back, right, and left to place a 3d loci to make the spot where the surface and the line intersect. The 3d loci wouldn't snap to the intersection of the nurbs surface and the 2d line! I'm I missing something or is Vectorworks not really a 3d design tool? Any thoughts on how I should try to deal with this as I was hoping to duplicate the 3d loci and move it 6"in the z direction before creating a new nurbs curves. I don't know if these wire frames help to show an example: Top plan view.   20. Kevin, After taking another look and adjusting the file, I believe I didn't have the roof set correctly. I was using the upper flat edge of the roof as viewed in wire frame and aligning it to the top of the trusses not the part of the roof that sits directly over the trusses, so that where the spacing error came in. Sometimes I think one begins to lose perspective on distances when working with large shapes. Working with curved shapes and angles in 3d space certainly takes more effort than flat shapes.   21. Kevin, Thanks for reminding me to check my OpenGL settings, they were set to low. You forget that the setting isn't saved from file to file unless you are using a saved template file. Increasing them and checking anti-aliasing helps but the nurbs surface still only shows as a curve in hidden line render. Yes, you are correct about the top of the trusses being flat compared to the sloped roof. But if you look at the file from the right or left view in wire frame you will see that the roof surface is above the flat top of the trusses and they still show thru! I need to raise the roof surface nearly 2.75" above the trusses for it to not be visible in OpenGL? That seems like a very large gap, considering if the track that the roofing material slides into is 6", that a very large error to have in the file just to render correctly. Right now I'm in the rough layout phase, I should be able to look at the roof surface just touching the top of the trusses and then move it up 6" and know that later when I add the channels I don't have the same visualization problem all over again. I guess I should submit the nurbs anomaly as a "bug" to be looked at.   22. Pat, Here are some quick screen shots: Screen shot Surface on the trusses with same starting curve. Here is a 2013.vx file with an example of the shapes I was lofting compare to an extruded polyline. Example .vwx file I discovered this problem trying to attach a surface over some trusses using the same curve as the top of the trusses and after I would loft the nurds surface the truss struck up thought the created surface.

I'm trying to figure out why when I loft a nurbs surface with the railings both being identical nurbs curves ( which were created by converting a 2d arc into a nurbs curve ) and then connecting the the ends of the curves with a straight nurbs curve, the finished loft surface is more like two flat planes not a soft curve? I even tried adding more degrees which adds more vertices to the curve but that doesn't really change the result either. In wireframe view the curves look correct but when I view in opengl or final renderworks all I end up seeing is very flat gable roof not a curve. If I lay the nurbs surface over a extruded polyline having the same shape, they only intersect in the middle and the ends. The is with an arc having a length of 50' and radius of 220'. Any thoughts on why this is happening? I this a bug to 2015 or does large lofted nurb surfaces become simplified the larger they get?
  24. I had thought about scaling the pdf 50% as you have stated, but the review checklist states "to scale" for both large and small, so I'm not sure a "Scale Disclaimer" would work. Plot Plan - 3 scaled copies are included with metes and bounds a. 2 large-format sets to scale with current and proposed structures shown with clear and legible dimensions b. 1 small-format to scale with current and proposed structures shown with clear and legible dimensions (8 ? x 11, 8 ? x 14, or 11 x 17) Floor Plans ? 3 scaled copies are included with applicable technical data a. 2 large-format sets to scale with clear and legible room labels and dimensions b. 1 small-format to scale with clear and legible room labels and dimensions (8 ? x 11, 8 ? x 14, or 11 x 17) So what type solution can I use to create the smaller set scaled correctly. Create a copy of the .vwx file change the page size and adjust the viewports which would adjust the scale and dimensions?
  25. Hello, I was curious as to what is the best practice to create two different final plan sizes from one drawing? I have never had to provide two different sizes of the same file for review. I need to print/plot for review two sets at a normal size (Arch D) but also need to provide a smaller copy of the plans at 8.5 x 11 or 14. I can't just scale down the larger pdf and have the correct scale showing on the smaller size prints viewports? Do I just duplicate the different sheet layers and adjust the page size and viewports for the new "smaller" size? Any help would greatly be appreciated.
