  1. Hi there, I want to know what people's experience with Artlantis has been. My studio uses Vectorworks for all the 2D drawing, and most of the 3D renders, but the boss is considering investing in Artlantis to export our models and render. I've never used the software, but I personally don't see anything in Artlantis that can't be done in Vectoworks. I am the resident Vectorworks expert, so I do have some say. So here are my questions: 1. What is the overall quality in terms of photorealism of the renders when comparing Artlantis and Vectorworks? 2. Assuming hardware is equal, which is faster at high quality renders? 3. What is the learning curve for Artlantis when compared to Vectorworks? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
  2. Hi Mark, Thanks for your response. Couple questions for clarity. When you say "spotlight instrument texture" are you referring to the texture itself as imported from the resource browser, or are you referring to the spotlight object itself? I'll admit it's been a few years since I worked with a spotlight in VW, is there a 3rd option I'm overlooking? When I pull up the spotlight on the object info palette: Cast Shadows, Soft Shadows, and Lit Fog are all turned ON. When I pull up the edit texture palette for the applied texture (Carpet Berber 01 Lt Brown RT) Cast and Receive shadows is turned ON. And if I want the object to cast shadows, why would I turn it OFF? Thanks Joel

  4. Hello, So I am using VW Designer 2016 SP4, and I am having trouble with the spotlight beam. I created a new file project solely to trouble shoot the beam, and found that the problem still persists. Last time I did theatrical design I used VW 2011, and had no problem with the beam, but as the image below shows, the beam goes right through objects and casts no shadow. The beam is checked for Cast Shadows, Soft Shadows, and Lit Fog The object texture, is set to both Cast and Receive shadows, and has no transparency. Renderings are done in Final Quality Renderworks, with no added ambient lighting. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Joel
  5. Greetings Vectorworkers, So this post is a follow up to my post from last December. I am still looking for new employment with Vectorworks as my primary skill set. Having been isolated from other Vectorwork professionals, (I'm really the only one I know who uses VW) I was hoping to get some feedback regarding my resume and portfolio. I know different jobs will be looking for different things, but I would really appreciate it if some of you would be willing to look at my portfolio and resume and provide some constructive feedback. If interested please let me know and I'll send you my stuff. Thanks. Joel
  6. Thanks for the advice. I actually freelance as a photographer/videographer and graphic designer, so I am quite adept with most of the Adobe Creative Suite. Guess I gotta go knocking on doors. Joel
  7. Greetings, I first learned Vectorworks in a theatrical design class during undergrad, and found immediate luck right afterwards getting a job creating 3D models for a construction defect litigation firm. I have been there 9 years now and need to move on. For the last 8 months have been searching for Vectorworks jobs with little to no luck. While my trusted friends and colleagues have reviewed my resume and portfolio, none of them have any experience with CAD let alone Vectorworks. In fact, I have not encountered another Vectorworks user since I studied it in college. Needless to say, I've been working in a vacuum and would really appreciate some advice from another professional Vectorworks user. I understand that without a engineering or architectural degree that the job field will be a little narrower. If you would be willing to offer some advice on my resume and portfolio please let me know and I'll send it to you. Thanks in advance. Joel
  8. I'm having trouble creating a road for my site model on VW 12.5 I've followed the manual. The road is set to grade like it is in real life, but when i render in 3d half of the road is covered by the hillside, and I can't update the site because of it says I'm breaching a hull or a fence. Also everytime I use the site modifier tool for pad or a fence it shrinks into a 3d loci. Any help would be much appreciated.
