  1. @markdd I think the Location is within thinks only in 2D... I extruded the polyline and gave it a new name. I then duplicated a symbol and moved it up on the Z axis, but within the bounding box of the extrude. They worksheet reported it. I then moved it up further on the Z axis, so still within the plan bounding box, but outside the 3D bounding box. The worksheet still reported it. Sorry.

  2. And you want to show the area name beside each item?

    7 minutes ago, JMR said:

If the polygon name column ( Location is Within PREFIX* ) is sorted, objects with the same containing polygon name appear together. These can then be summed together if one needs to count them...I think.

The prefix can be something like "......" as well, not to appear so unappealing.

@JMR, how are you displaying the Polygon area name on the drawing? That's what I am struggling with because there is no relationship between the area and the objects being reported.

  3. Thanks @JMR but I think this has beaten me. I agree that having a common prefix on all the areas will help narrow down the results.

However, I think that @markdd is also looking to include the name of the Location polyline or polygon alongside the objects that are reported. However, as there is no direct relationship between the elements, other than physical proximity, I can't see a way to do it. Although the symbols are enclosed within the polyline, they are not related to it. And it could be that they are actually enclosed within more than one polyline, so it's not necessarily a one to one correlation, if that makes any sense.

So, I think this will need someone much smarter than me to answer!

  4. You're very welcome. The beauty of the hybrid approach is that the resulting object can have both 2D properties, so look lovely in plan view, and separate properties for a 3D view or visualisation.

If you don't need the plan view, you can stick to a purely 3D view, and just model elements. If you choose a Top view instead of a Top/Plan view, and render with OpenGL, you will see the textures that have been applied.

  5. I'm so glad it's working.

You can set OpenGL as the default render mode here:

If you don't have the option available on the Quick Preferences bar, click the lower down arrow (at the right of my screenshot) and enable the option.

Looking forward to seeing your progress when you feel ready to share!

  6. OK - so it looks like you have created a style called Audley, which contains a number of components. These are set up with different fills which will show in a section view.

However, the basic attributes for the wall has a fill style of None, and this is what's causing the textures not to display.

    Here's what to do:

    1. On the Resource Manager, click the Home button to ensure you are looking at the resources of the active file.
    2. Locate the Wall Style definition, named Audley.
    3. Right click on this and choose Edit.
    4. At the top of the dialogue box, above the list of components, click Edit Wall Attributes.
    5. Change None to Solid and then choose the base colour you would like.
    6. Click OK and choose to replace the style.
    7. Now, the wall is set to render By Object (in other words, not render each individual component) and to get that texture By Class. The wall is in the class Wall-Exterior. So, now, edit that class and on the Textures pane, choose the texture you would like to apply to the left and top of the wall.

In my example, I have put a stone texture on the left (outside) and the top, leaving the interior of the wall showing the solid white fill that I applied in the style.

  7. Have you tried using the Architect (UK Metric).sta template, (under File > New) which has layers and classes already set up for you and was created by UK industry specialists? It has design layers, classes and Sheet Layers with elevation viewports already set up for you, and would possibly be an excellent way to get started. With this template, you create the building and the floor plans, elevations and sections will already be there. It has also has a title block for you to customise as you wish.

I certainly appreciate your comments about knowing which search terms to use in the University. Let us see what we can find for you...

Here's a good starting point for content that has been created by the team in the UK:

But in the Architect section which I sent you earlier, I recommend the

    BIM Architectural course covers elevations:

Our UK industry specialist also ran this webinar:

I'm not sure if you have used other CAD software before, but I hope you will find this useful too:

I hope that helps you move forward with a little more joy in your heart...
