  1. No luck I'm afraid. I changed the attributes to use Class style, but it's made no difference. If going for the VectorScript option, how can I refer to the font settings for the symbol?
  2. Hi Ian Missed seeing you yesterday at the conference. I was mobbed, on the VW stand, but heard that you were around. No - the symbols seem to retain the text style that was in force when they were created. So, if I bring them into a new drawing, they retain their original characterists rather than the current text settings. I can, of course, change the text once I've brought the plant in, but I'm just intrigued now by how I can get inside that symbol definition. I've tried change symbol attributes but that only changes the usual class graphic attributes... not text. I've tried editing the 2D portion of the symbol and editing text with everything in the symbol selected (when of course the tag isn't showing) but makes no difference. Not sure it's possible, but I just wondered if there was some way to get at that text attribute which it clearly is storing SOMEWHERE... Cheers T
  3. I have collected together several plant objects which I have created in various different files. Some were created with different fonts and different font sizes. In the new file where I have collected my plants, I would like to edit the symbol definitions to have a consistent text style. If I use the plants, then change the text, it only changes that instance. In effect, I would like to be able select and update the symbols, BEFORE they are used on the drawing. I can edit the graphic and the definition, but not the font. Is there a way to update the text settings for all the symbols on the Resource Browser (for the current open file)?
  4. COuld it be your number of decimal places in your Unit settings for the document?
  5. Yes - click on the plant. You will see a little blue selection handle in the middle of the symbol. Drag this to your chosen position and click again to place.
  6. Make sure you have Interactive Selection Mode ON - check the mode bar when using the select tool...
  7. Select the database header row in the worksheet. Drag the little SUM icon that you'll see to the height and spread columns. This will stop it summing the height and spread!
  8. What release of VW are you on? If you have botanical that implies 12?
  9. If you're on 2008, include the Latin Name column to your report.

    Yes - many times. I just OK as many times as it wants me to, then save my file quick because VW crashes soon afterwards... Not sure that this has happened since going to SP2 R3 though...
  11. What about moving the page on your design layers? Does that make a difference to the viewports? I don't have VW in front of me at the moment to check it out..
  12. If you have records attached to symbols you can use the Tools/Reports/Create Reports option to select the fields from your records - these will be added to a worksheet which you can then export to Excel. Are these your own symbols or those provided with VW?
  13. Yes - that seems to be a general problem with saved things. I would like to save hardscapes and stipples then apply them using the Convert to Objects option. But I can't - unless someone can tell me how?

If you want your dimension text to be a different size to the rest of your "standard" text, you could create a custom selection (Tools, Custom Selection - choose Type = Dimension) to select all the dimensions. Once selected, you can change the size of all the dimension text, leaving other, unselected text unaffected.
  15. Interesting question... Do you have any reason to doubt them? Clearly they don't take into account different soil types.
  16. Hi Orangeman You need to convert your 2D objects to 3D objects. This you can do under the Modify/Convert/Objects from Polyline commands. You describe points for the planned heights. If they are just points, you should probably convert them to Stake Objects. If they are areas, you should use Pad. You then need a fence to limit the area of regrading. You then need to set your site model options (via the Object Info Palette) to determine how the cut and fill is to be reported. Click on Update and change your settings in the OIP to a Proposed view. You should see the contours update and the cut and fill update. Good luck!
  17. Hi Can anyone help? A former student has sent me a file which has developed a problem. Unfortunately, she can't tell me what she did to achieve this ("something - I don't know what") so I am somewhat in the dark. However, the problem is that the objects on each layer no longer line up with each other and appear to be scaled wrong. On examination of the layer setup, each layer is at 1:100. However, if I go into Document setup and look at the scale (without changing anything), I get the attached message: Any idea what's she's done or if there's a quick fix?
  18. Ah - I was missing the bit that each plant had to have a unique graphic.
  19. Why do you need to edit the graphics after the plant has been created? Surely you can just edit the spread via the Place Plant tool Settings button. Sorry to have missed the point!
  20. There is no reason why you shouldn't use the same base symbol for many plants. As follows: 1) Drag your chosen symbol onto the drawing. 2) Select and go to the Landmark menu. 3) Choose Create New Plant 4) Complete the details you need to complete including spread (this will resize your chosen symbol) 5) You can, if you wish, add plant data from one of your plant lists. Click OK to accept your changes. 6) Now for the next plant on the list, choose Place Plant. 7) The plant you just created should be visible in the drop down menu. Click on the Settings button and again ensure that your recently created plant is visible in the box. 8) Click on Duplicate. 9) Complete the 2nd plant details as required (attaching plant data if you wish as before). The change in Spread will resize the symbol. So - no need to use the symbol editor. Now - the database. Yes - it's frustrating to have to load the entire list. The secret is to open the Filemaker Pro database and create lots of smaller lists based on your preferences. You can there edit plants and create duplicates of existing records. Any changes you make to the database will require you to update your VW plant lists (do this from the file menu on the database). One thing to avoid is having a long plant list with a name that will be first alphabetically - choosing Get Plant Data is a bit of a pain as VW helpfully loads the first plant list it finds and if that has 5000 records in it, tough. I created a list called AAA with 1 plant in it. That gets round that problem. I have other lists with shortlists of my favourite perennials, small shrubs, larger shrubs etc. What would be really nice though would be if VW could actually talk to the Filemaker Pro database. None of these intermediate lists would be necessary. Hope some of this helps and that I haven't missed the point. Cheers

  22. Thanks for all the responses - very helpful. I have tried the convert to space and yes of course that's always a great option with so many VW objects. I am now getting a view that I would use Space purely to be able to report on information about that space? In effect, it is a tool which allows me to create a record about that space.
