  1. Hi Paola

    You can draw 3D polys directly from the 3D modelling toolset and then set the appropriate Z value for each contour. Alternatively, you can use the Stake Object tool to record spot heights recorded on site. Or you can import 3D points from a survey if you have one.

    Once you have completed the "source data" you can select it all and run Create Site Model.

  2. You don't actually have to place the plants one by one - but you do need to create a Plant Object (using Place Plant). Once these plants are created they can be transferred from drawing to drawing via the Resource Browser - so you can build a library of plants that you can use in different projects. This set of plants can be imported in one go and then added to the Landscape Area.

  3. You need to first create the plants you want to use in the Landscape Area, by using the Place Plant tool. Once the plants are defined, you can import them into the drawing en masse and then add them to the Landscape Area.

  4. I've been contacted offlist and asked to qualify my statement about the Fibonacci series. Firstly, I should state that I'm no mathematician so really don't want to get into arguments about math(s).

    However, the attached file contains a spiral drawn using the Polyline tool with Tangent Arc mode selected. Each segment of the curve uses the next in the Fibonacci series as its radius and a sweep of 90 degrees. Numbers are 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21...

    The result is also I believe known as the Golden Spiral. It is not logarithmic, but is easy to use in a Landscape design scenario because it's easy and clear to set out on the ground.

    Are you by any chance on a Mac? Did you recently run software update on the Mac to get you to 10.6.7? If so, unfortunately Apple has introduced a nasty bug which changes the way postscript fonts are handled. We are unable to print anything from our Macs at the moment, unless we print from Adobe products bizzarely and we are just waiting on a fix from Apple.

    If you're not on Mac... sorry to have come up with the wrong answer.

  6. Do you have Landmark with Renderworks? If so, you will find some files from XFrog in the Vectorworks Libraries which contain Image Props. These are symbols that consist of a plant image. You can change the size of these once you've put them onto the drawing.

    If you are using the Place Plant tool, you can set up 2D/3D hybrid "Plants" that have a definition containing height and spread. These values will control the size of the 2D plan component and the 3D image prop embedded within the plant.

    Hope that helps get you started.

    If you DON'T have Landmark, you can still find some image prop files which have some plant material in them.

    Thanks for sending the files over - I have had a look and one of the files contains the 3D Loci that you want. You just need to check ALL 3D when importing to ensure the Z values are retained and then you are good to go!

    It is an issue I'm afraid. However, an easy workaround is to use the Alt key when dragging your selection marquee. That will select anything touched by your selection even if it isn't completely enclosed, so you can select just the symbol you want.
