  1. P.S. If you click on Site Model Settings on the Object Info palette, you can also turn off the 3D Grid and 3D Contours on the 3D display if you wish - and then you'll just see your textured terrain. Good luck!
  2. Hi Paola Your model is fine - but there are two things I notice: 1) The 3D element is still set to show 3D contours instead of Mesh Solid. Change that and all will be fine. 2) When creating your Site Model, you left the box checked to Retain Source Data. This means that you have both the original 3D Polys AND the Site model showing when you render in OpenGL. You can remove those 3D Polygons - they are not necessary anymore as the information is now all stored inside the site model. So, delete them all. If you need to refer back to them, you can right-click and choose Edit Source Data. (Better still, just put the 3D polys in a separate class and then hide that class - just in case you DO need them for anything else. Hope that helps, and do watch my webinar on Site Modelling on Thursday.
  3. Hi Peaola Make sure that the terrain model has Mesh Solid as its 3D option - then it will appear as a solid object when you render with OpenGL. After that, you select the model and apply a texture if you wish using the Render tab on the Object Info palette.
  4. No problem - it's a very common misunderstanding.
  5. Hi Paola You can draw 3D polys directly from the 3D modelling toolset and then set the appropriate Z value for each contour. Alternatively, you can use the Stake Object tool to record spot heights recorded on site. Or you can import 3D points from a survey if you have one. Once you have completed the "source data" you can select it all and run Create Site Model. I am doing a webinar on just this subject next week, with Eric Gilbey, if you are interested. https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/326331906
  6. Yes - it's a known problem with the 10.6.7 update on Mac I'm afraid. If you look on the Apple Forums, there are some suggestions help you back out certain files to their previous versions. For some it has worked, but not for all. You could try using non-postscript fonts. Hope that helps
  7. Hi Matt You need to check the Tangent to Path box. Your initial object needs to be square to the page though - you don't need to rotate it to align to the arc. The Duplicate Along Path command will handle that for you. Hope that helps!
  8. You don't actually have to place the plants one by one - but you do need to create a Plant Object (using Place Plant). Once these plants are created they can be transferred from drawing to drawing via the Resource Browser - so you can build a library of plants that you can use in different projects. This set of plants can be imported in one go and then added to the Landscape Area. Hope that helps!
  9. You need to first create the plants you want to use in the Landscape Area, by using the Place Plant tool. Once the plants are defined, you can import them into the drawing en masse and then add them to the Landscape Area. Hope that helps
  10. I've been contacted offlist and asked to qualify my statement about the Fibonacci series. Firstly, I should state that I'm no mathematician so really don't want to get into arguments about math(s). However, the attached file contains a spiral drawn using the Polyline tool with Tangent Arc mode selected. Each segment of the curve uses the next in the Fibonacci series as its radius and a sweep of 90 degrees. Numbers are 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21... The result is also I believe known as the Golden Spiral. It is not logarithmic, but is easy to use in a Landscape design scenario because it's easy and clear to set out on the ground. Sophie - I will also Skype this file to the rest of your student colleagues!
  11. Fantastic Matt - thanks for that! Of course, the other option is the Fibonacci spiral, which is easily achieved using the Polyline tool with Tangent Arc mode...
  12. You could try updating the driver for your graphics card. This is a free update.
  13. Actually Sophie - Illustrator can draw this. I have it, if you let me know what you want I can draw it for you and you can paste this into VW.
  14. If you click Edit Light on the Object Info palette, you can control the beam and field angle for each light.
  15. You need to contact our local distributor if you need to move licences. Hope that helps.
  16. There is a problem with fonts in OSX 10.6.7. Hopefully Apple will fix it soon.
  17. What is the specification of your PC?
  18. The printing issue with Apple seems to be related to postscript fonts? Which fonts are you using?
  19. Hi Chris Are you by any chance on a Mac? Did you recently run software update on the Mac to get you to 10.6.7? If so, unfortunately Apple has introduced a nasty bug which changes the way postscript fonts are handled. We are unable to print anything from our Macs at the moment, unless we print from Adobe products bizzarely and we are just waiting on a fix from Apple. If you're not on Mac... sorry to have come up with the wrong answer.
  20. Do you have Landmark with Renderworks? If so, you will find some files from XFrog in the Vectorworks Libraries which contain Image Props. These are symbols that consist of a plant image. You can change the size of these once you've put them onto the drawing. If you are using the Place Plant tool, you can set up 2D/3D hybrid "Plants" that have a definition containing height and spread. These values will control the size of the 2D plan component and the 3D image prop embedded within the plant. Hope that helps get you started. If you DON'T have Landmark, you can still find some image prop files which have some plant material in them.
  21. Hi Jo Thanks for sending the files over - I have had a look and one of the files contains the 3D Loci that you want. You just need to check ALL 3D when importing to ensure the Z values are retained and then you are good to go! All the best
  22. Within Vectorworks Preferences, ensure you have Quartz Imaging turned on. Hope that helps. T
  23. Hi Matt It is an issue I'm afraid. However, an easy workaround is to use the Alt key when dragging your selection marquee. That will select anything touched by your selection even if it isn't completely enclosed, so you can select just the symbol you want. Hope that helps.
  24. You should not need to have anything to do with the USR file - just follow the instructions above and any data in tha database which is in the trees category will be included in your Existing Trees list.
