  1. Yes 2012 supports georeferencing with images.
  2. Hello Sorry - I don't think so! Do you mean you are inserting directly from the resource browser, or choosing from the list on the Place Plant tool's preferences? Let me know
  3. Hi Do you have Vectorworks Spotlight? If you do, use the Event Planning > Create Event Seating menu command to create seating that is raked. If you don't, you could use the Edit > Duplicate Array command to copy your seating. You can use a Z offset to ensure that each row or seating rises by the desired amount to achieve the rake. Hope that helps
  4. Hi I have replied to your email and I am ready and waiting to help you. Please could you send me that exact error message you are receiving and confirm whether you are on Windows or Mac? Thanks Tamsin
  5. I listen Peter - and wholeheartedly agree with you! But it ain't up to me.
  6. Hi Demfis For glow to glow, you need to turn on indirect lighting. Choose View > Lighting > Set Lighting Options. Enable Indirect Lighting by choosing the number of bounces you want for the light. Hope that helps!
  7. The Heliodon object contains a Directional Light. It is this you will see in the Visualization palette - just a light source with type Directional. It's name will be the location, date and time though so you can recognize which ones you need to turn off. Hope that helps.
  8. Designer includes everything that Landmark, Architect and Spotlight have to offer, so yes. I wasn't sure if it was on the workspace by default, but I just changed my workspace to Designer and yes, there it is View > Show > Show or Hide Site Modifiers. Have fun!
  9. Hi - Yes it's a Landmark command and it's a quick way to hide the ugliness of the site modifiers on the plan if you want to. That menu also contains some other useful things to show and hide, like sketchy lines around plants and spray patterns on irrigation heads. With Architect, you only get a quick way to hide visible constraints applied to a drawing.
  10. Try also View > Show > Show or Hide Site Modifiers...
  11. Hi I had the same issue when I used Migration Assistant. I had to get rid of my user folder and create a new one. Make sure Vectorworks is shut down. Go to User/Application Support/Vectorworks and find the 2012 folder. Rename it Old2012. Fire up Vectorworks. It will recognise that the 2012 folder is missing, and create a new one for you. You'll probably need to activate your serial number again. If you had specific preferences set in the Old2012 folder, you can restore them into the new folder, but you will probably need to recreate any custom workspaces. I hope that helps
  12. Hi Entire Leaves We made a movie about this as it's a frequently asked question from our customers! Take a look at this page and scroll down - there are several movies that will help explain worksheets a bit better for you, but two in particular that relate to limiting a worksheet to only look at certain plants, or order them by certain criteria. http://www.vectorworks-training.co.uk/Buy_Vectorworks/Training_for_Design_Vectorworks_Training_Gifts.aspx Hope they help!
  13. Great - glad it's sorted and I do hope you find the book useful!
  14. Hi Ray I too love the Grade tool. I also love the ability to make my own modifiers. I use the Extract tool a lot to pick up geometry from 3D elements in the design and then place them in Site-DTM-Modifier class. This makes it all very flexible. The road from polyline does work "a treat", except at the moment it appears to be broken. I did file the bug. All the best
  15. Try making sure your view is Top/Plan. It sounds like you may have changed your view to Top, in which case you are looking at the top of the image prop symbol that represents the 3D element. Hope that helps
  16. Here's the process: Create the Polyline Run Landmark > Roads > Station on Polyline This creates stakes which are on the surface of the model IF you want to change the stakes so that they change elevation equally between the start and end stake, select the start and end stake. Run Landmark > Roads > Align Stakes Vertically. The elevation of each stake will be changed according to the elevation values you have defined. Deselect the stakes. Select the Polyline. Run Landmark > Roads > Create Road from Stakes. BUT - I just checked it out and it looks like something might be broken... I am getting the same error message as you. I will investigate and file a bug.
  17. Are you on Windows? If so, instead of choosing Font, choose Text > Format Text and this will display a nice neat dialog, from which you can choose the Font.
  18. Shapefiles can definitely be imported into Landmark 2012.
  19. You beat me to it. Yes - 2D objects that remain layer plane will become the 3D element of a symbol. However, when you create a symbol using Modify > Create Symbol, you should check the Convert Layer Plane to Screen Plane option to avoid this.
  20. The default story layer elevations are set relative to the story, whatever elevation that may be. So, yes, you set them up as if they are their own story, and then adjust the elevation of the story as required. Because the layers are defined relative to the story, when the story moves, its layers, and bound objects, will adjust with it.
  21. Yes, the command is File > Export > Export DXF/DXG. You specify the parameters you want and click OK. And it is that simple, but unfortunately there may be other factors that are complicating it for you... There is definitely a 12.5.3 updater for version 12. I do advise you to install it from the link I included. Version 12 is a very old version now, but 12.5.3 will give you all fixes that were available for that release. If you have only just installed the software on currently hardware, it may be that 12.5.1 simply won't run on the hardware you have. Can you tell me more about the hardware you are running? What OS is it? Windows or Mac? If Windows, which version? If Mac OS, which version? Do please come back to me with the answers to the hardware and OS questions and I will advise. All the best Tamsin
  22. Hi All I can suggest is that you install the latest update for version 12, which is 12.5.3. You can download it here http://www.vectorworks.net/downloads/fundamentals/version12/12.5.3.php How much memory do you have on the computer? PC or Mac?
  23. Hi Jim Can you send me screenshot of your shadows on your Image Props? Are you using a Heliodon for lighting? Does it have the Soft Shadows option checked? And are you definitely using a Renderworks mode to light the scene? What about Environment Lighting and Indirect Lighting? Adding this creates a much softer look to the whole scene... You can easily recreate this by using a built-in Renderworks Style such as Realistic Exterior Final. The image props in the book are mostly those provided with the software. Which ones in particular are you asking about? I may have made a couple myself. That's a case of using Photoshop (or alternative image editing software) to select the plant pixels and replace their background with a solid colour. Then, use Model > Create Image Prop, import the imagea and create a transparency mask from the background colour. If you post an image - or email me at support@vectorworks-training.co.uk I'll happily try to diagnose the issue.
  24. Hi Jim Since we've spoken now, I hope that the Saved View option will do what you need to do - essentially save your visibility settings so that you can turn ALL your layers and classes on and do what you need to do, then restore the saved view to restore the original class and layer visibility. Alternatively, use the Move Page tool to move the page as you need to rather than move the objects. Of course, as you know, Viewports are the better option... All the best
  25. That's right - it would be so cool if we could fill a hardscape with a pattern that follows the flow of the pathway. Another way to do it, would be to use the Wall tool for the pathway (a wide, very low wall) and create a tile fill that is set up to both rotate in wall and fit to wall. The basic tile pattern will stretch along its Y axis to fit the wall, so you will have to be careful that you draw it so it doesn't distort, but it will then rotate along the curve. Of course, you then lose the benefit of the hardscape having automatic edging, but you could use two other walls to create the pathway edging. Hope that helps!
