  1. There may be other ways to do this, but for the benefit of others here is what I discovered:

The order of rooms within the Room Finish Schedule is determined by the order of the spaces in the drawing. Sending a space backwards or forwards (see "Send" under the "Modify" menu) will change that space's place in the finish schedule accordingly.

Note: as with any other changes, you will not see the change in order until you select the "recalculate" option on the finish schedule.

  2. I am experiencing an issue with some of my AutoCAD exports from Vectorworks that causes problems for the end use of the .dwg files. "Zoom Extents" is a commonly used tool in AutoCAD to bring everything on screen. Some (not all) of my files exported from VectorWorks go crazy when Zoom Extents is selected in ACAD - all drawing objects disappear and the undo command is the only way to bring the drawing back on screen. Anyone else running into this problem?

We have clients with AutoCAD submittal requirements who are going to give us trouble about this some day - hasn't happened yet, but this problem would annoy me if I were the recipient of these files.

Note: I have searched for objects outside of the drawing area and can't find any outliers.

  3. I am experiencing a similar issue when attempting to superimpose pavement/sidewalk on a site model. After using the Send to Surface command, I have a mix of site and sidewalk - very similar to the graphic posted by domer1322. I can "solve" the problem by raising the sidewalk 3" - which creates a new problem. I've used this tool a couple of times in the past, but it may be the first time in VW 2013. I'll try it in 2014 later today and see if that works.

  4. I won't upgrade to OS 10.9 at the office until I am confident that my essential software will run reliably on it. It is not very difficult to wait a few days after a new OS X release and check out discussion forums like this to see if there are problems with the key software releases that I depend upon. In my case, the version of Parallels that we use was the sticking point. Sometimes, it is just better to take a breath and wait a little while ...

  5. I hadn't considered dragging and dropping into a drawing - that may save a step. I don't mind when VW has me go through a series of settings questions when importing ACAD files. I would like to be able to open (import) an ACAD file directly from a Finder window into VW without the need for the user to directly interface with VW first. If it were treated similarly to how I open older VW files with VW2014, I would be very happy with that. Thanks.

  6. This is a VW on the Mac-related question. I think I remember being able to open .dwg files directly from the Finder using a past version of Vectorworks. I haven't been able to do this for some time (possibly never - maybe I was dreaming that I could do it in years past). It would save a few steps if I could do this rather than opening a new VW file and importing from within the app. Is there a way to do this that I am missing? If it is not a current feature, can it be added in the future?

  7. I find Nomad to be an interesting app. For our workflow and client interaction, its primary weakness is we do more than just work with VectorWorks. Using a .pdf reader on our iPad, I can sort and organize all of our current project drawings, specifications, etc in .pdf format and have a traveling file archive to take in the field and to client meetings.

The weakness of our approach is that it requires occasional preparation and updating to ensure that we have the latest files on the device. The strength of the approach is that once that is done, there are no worries about server/cloud reliability, etc.

At this moment, Cloud Services isn't accepting my VW files. A post for another discussion stream, but relates to my concern over reliability.

  8. I'm thinking that the problem is with my installation. I have several versions of VW on my computer - none of them successfully export images. I tried it on a second computer with VW loaded and it worked. Different question now: If a feature doesn't work on several different versions of VW on a single computer, what should I do to fix it? What common file(s) would ruin a feature in multiple versions of VW?

  9. Periodically, I have trouble with VectorWorks not exporting embedded photos and/or .pdf images to .dwg format. I have "Export Images and Image Files" selected when exporting. This has worked for me for years. I don't remember if this problem began before VW2013, but it is somewhat recent. Has anyone else experienced this issue of VW not exporting images with the .dwg file? It may be that some of my files are corrupted from years of updating from VW version to VW version. Thanks.

  10. I began using VW2013 this morning - with the newly minted SP1 installed. I can't tab between fields in the Move command palette. Are others experiencing similar problems?

When I hit the tab key to advance from the "X offset" to the "Y offset" nothing happens other than the "X offset" is no longer selected. Hitting the tab key a second time re-selects the "X offset". I can use the mouse to advance to the next field, but this is a slower way to use a tool that we use often.

  11. To give an example:

I often include a viewport of an elevation to supplement a building section drawing. To better manage line weights, I will use two or more viewports to present a drawing (building section is normal line weight, elevations beyond are set as a fine line weight in the "advanced properties" button for the viewport). Because I am also using the elevations as separate drawings on other sheets, I may want to scale certain types of hatches to read better at a different drawing scale rather than just change the design layer drawing.

If I am using a hatch to represent true building materials (like brick running bond courses), I have no problem. The hatch scales as it should.

If I am using a hatch to mark types/colors of brick courses (diagonal, cross hatch, etc), this is where my issue arises. I would like to be able to manage the diagonal or cross hatch to read better in a larger scale viewport while also retaining its readability in smaller scale viewports.

  12. There are occasions when it would be useful to scale a hatch in a viewport (I don't want to change the hatch scale in the original design layer). I don't appear to have that ability in VW 2011, but would be happy to be proven wrong. Is that available in the current version?

  13. Yes - I am speaking of both a local and a US federal government client that mandates a specific brand and version of software for file creation. The federal government client would never allow us to specify a specific brand/model for their project.

I have found that re-saving a VW export using either AutoCAD LT 2011 or the dwg convert tool in Autodesk's TrueView does not eliminate the warning message. This was a little disconcerting until I discovered the following solution:

Re-packaging the file using "eTransmit" in AutoCAD LT and then extracting it back out fixes the problem. I don't know what the eTransmit process does to the file that re-saving does not do, but this appears to be one solution. Upon opening an eTransmitted file, the command line tells me "This file is a TrustedDWG last saved by an Autodesk application."

  14. We are using VW 2008 and have used it to export .dwg files for clients and consultants with good success. My biggest hang-up is on the AutoCAD side, where opening an exported VW file prompts the following warning message: "This DWG file was saved by an application that was not developed or licensed by Autodesk. What do you want to do?"

I know how to make this message go away on the AutoCAD side, but we have some government clients with whom I would rather not have the "we don't use AutoCAD" discussion. Does anyone know if VW 2010 addresses this problem?

    Thanks.

  15. Is there a way to apply a bullnose corner at wall objects in VW while retaining the properties that come with a wall? I see that I can achieve the geometry using the Fillet Edge tool, but I loose the wall properties. At the next tier of difficulty, I am also looking for a method to apply that bullnose at door and window jambs. Probably doesn't make a difference, but am looking at a 1"R. Any advice would be much appreciated.
