    Walls to STL

I have found the problem. When I scale down, the walls end up very high on the Z axis. By bringing the Z to zero, the model arrives on the build plate. Thank you to everyone for your help.

    Walls to STL

I must be doing something wrong. If I take a 4 simple walls in a box 10m x 10m, with some windows in it and export straight to STL, open in Cura and then scale it down to 1%, then there are no objects visible in Cura. Maybe I don't know enough about Cura? or should I scale it down in Vectorworks first?

    Walls to STL

I am trying to convert an architectural model ready for printing in 3D. 3 years ago I learned to export to Parasolid and then import back to VW so that I could convert to Generic solid. This no longer works. Is there a way of converting walls and other parametric objects to a solid format so that they can be exported to STL?
  4. The use of - or _ seems to matter. I asked Sarah at CPIC who is developing the Uniclass 2 system and her response is: "the device to use between the pairs of numbers is and underscore in order not to confuse the field separation as defined in BS 1192" I'm not sure where that leave VW with navigation through the classes.
  5. Has anyone tried to develop a class structure based on the Uniclass2 classification system? I am trying to set up a new template that will tie in with Uniclass2 and NBS Create and find it hard to know what to call each class. Should I include the 'Table' as well as the 6 digit string e.g: A-Ee-25_20_45-M_External Wall External Finish or A-25_20_45-M_External Wall External Finish NBS doesn't seem to use the 'Table' (Ee) and their code doesn't always seem to line up with the CPIC website Uniclass2 (Development Release) Classification Tables. It would be great if there was a single set up standard classes that we could all use that is consistent with Uniclass2 and NBS Create. Does anyone have an example that they use and we could all refer to similar to the old AEC one?
  6. This works on plan and I am able to show the existing or proposed terrain by creating two snap shots and giving them two different classes. However, the snap shots do not respond to different background render settings in the viewport, which makes it hard to show the results in section or improve the way the plan is seen. Am I missing something with the way I created the snapshot? The snapshot also seems to move away from the modifiers by x=-775mm y=439mm. I can't find any reason why it should jump out of position like this. I have tried to change the offset duplicate preferences, but it's not this. I'm sure this can be fixed, but how? Are you able to help? I really want to avoid having to create two Site Model, one for existing and one for proposed.
  7. I have found a way of using fills to give your texture bed a simple solid colour. Create a new texture. Make the texture as object class. Grice the texture bed a class. Give the class a colour. Hey presto! This texture can then be used for all your texture beds, and he colour adjusted according to class in the usual way.
  8. I have built a Site Model with both existing and proposed site modifiers. I am able to show how both the existing and proposed Site Model looks by changing the dialogue box in the Design Layer. However, I am not able to operate these commends from a Viewport in the Sheet Layer. Does anyone know how to show a Site Model in Plan or Section in the sheet layer through a viewport, with Existing and proposed Site Models shown in two different Viewports? I have tried using the 'Use Site Modifiers on Visible Layers only', which is available in the Site Model Settings dialogue box. and then switching off a layer with the proposed modifiers on from within the viewport - but the viewport doesn't seem to send the message through to the Site Model, which always remains in it's last updated state. Any help would be appreciated.
  9. How do you then switch the existing terrain off and show the proposed terrain when viewed through two different sectional view ports? One showing existing and one showing proposed.
  10. I have just discovered that if you use renderworks you have to use textures, but if you do not use renderworks then texture beds allow you to use fills in the normal way. This makes me want to be able to turn renderworks off for sone situations. Does anyone know if it is possible to turn renderworks off for a particular viewport, so that I can use simple fills on a texture bed?
  11. How do you apply formulas to Database cells within a worksheet. I am trying to calculate the sum of al the areas of the meeting rooms in an office development. I have created a report that provides the area of each room, which is collected from the Space objects applied to each room. But I can't seem to add up the areas that apply to any one type or room? Any ideas would be welcome.
  12. That works very well for the file with the object in - but it doesn't seem to work in a file that it using it via a reference. Is there a control I need to use in the file that is using the hybrid object through a viewport reference?
  13. How to I enable an extruded polylinle, that has a fill, appear as a fill when viewed in Top/Plan and Wireframe, in the same way that a 2d polyline does. I do not want to have to duplicate the polyline every time I create an extruded object, just so that it appears in a 2d view.
  14. I'm using Create Detail Viewport to present details from a section viewport, which appears to work very well. However, the viewport information has disappeared from the viewport and will not update? The viewport is still there, but it will not show the information inside it. the class or layer settings have not changed. It then worked again the next day on a different machine, and is now not updating again on either machine? Is this a hardware problem? or a problem with my settings? Has anyone else come across this problem. I am now re-building each detail viewport, but I am concerned that they might disappear again.

    IFC Classes

That's a great link - thank you. But is there a vectorworks file that I can import the classes from. If you can't export classes to IFC, then how do we export to IFC in Vectorworks? Yes, I am based in London UK

    IFC Classes

I am setting up a new default template file for our office. I would like to set up a standard set of classes that comply with BS1192 and IFC protocols. Is there a Standard Naming standard that provides a set of correctly names classes (similar to the AIA set) that automatically classes objects? Is there a file available that could generate a source for new classes? Or do we all have to methodically produce our own - which will inevitably lead to errors when trying to exchange data through IFC.

  19. How did you get rid of the hideously ugly border settings?
