  1. Hi Matthew but you need Autocad to do this ... so whats the point ? Klaus
  2. Hi I don't think that is what tesseract wanted. I think he (and I) would like to know how can you tell which layers are linked in a layer link (without having to write them down when originaly making the layerlink) and then delete one or more of the linked layers and add one or more other layers ie what I would like is to be able to fully edit the layerlink ... some of the drawings i work on have 50+ layers and when I return to an old drawing I have trouble trying to remember which layers were used on a layerlink cheers Klaus
  3. hi gundam you should run the '2D contours to 3D polys'... from the DTM menu as soon as you have drawn the 2D contours (don't manually make them 3D)and just follow the dialogue boxes ... the routine will automatically choose each contour in turn for you to assign a height... then goto 'New DTM' in the DTM menu ... fill in the dialogue boxes then after the DTM is created go to the new automaticaly created 3D polys layer and there is your 3D mesh If you then want to alter some of the contours ... go back to the layer with the 3D polys on and use the 2D reshape polygon tool to move the handles .... or you can put in some 3D loci and give them a 'z' value in the object information window or draw some new 2d polygons and then use the convert to '3D polys' in the Model menu and give them a 'z' value in the object information window .... then select 'Recalculate' in the DTM menu and it will automaticaly update the 3D mesh on the 3D polys layer cheers Klaus
  4. Try rebuilding your desktop. You do this by restarting while holding down the option and apple keys until a window appears that asks if you really want to rebuild your desk top. Click yes. This should solve the problem.
  5. just a couple of items that would be nice and save me lots of time 1. a lasso selection tool (like in photoshop), to make it easier to select multiple objects without having to use the shift key and selecting them individually or the rectangular marquee, which is difficult when there are lots of other objects nearby 2. a 'Z' elevation of extruded/3D objects in the object info palette when viewed from above, so that I do not have to change to front or side view to alter the elevation of an object ..... please

  7. see if the lines you using to draw the elements with are not dash lines, I have had problems in the past with drawings I have imported from Microstation DXF's, you can check this by clicking the line style window in the attributes pallet, and if some lines take a long time to draw then this is your problem. To solve just go into the dash styles preferences and delete all the lines that seem to take ages to draw
  8. Dear SLS i have found the same problems and they are realy annoying, it's about time they sorted out the DTM part of Vectorworks one solution to the problem of 'float objects' is to use VW 8.0.1 which works just fine, you can then re-open the file in 8.5.1. this works on the Mac and PC all the best Klaus
  9. I have found and reported a problem with VW 8.5.1, which is that the float objects command in the DTM menus gives very strange results, most of the symbols do not float to the correct level The solution is to use VW 8.0.1 to do this task and then open the document in 8.5.1 again. this works on Mac and PC
