  1. I have a similar issue with creating 3-d routed pipes (or wires). I tried to set a network of 3d loci, first spotted on the working plane, then (laboriously) moving the selected ones in 3-d to desired elevations. Then, ideally, a series of lines and nurbs arcs should be able to snap to the loci now in 3-space. This does not work. The nurbs arcs remain on the plane and do not snap to the loci (I was using both center and endpoints, and 3 points, to create). I tried this using Nurbs curve tool, it sort of works, but not with nice specified radii. Is there a way to draw a nurbs *line* between 3-d loci in space?
  2. Chamfer in 3D seems to afford only 45 degree cuts (only one offset distance can be entered). Often I would like to have different x and y offsets. Is there any better workaround than making a cutting tool with my desired parameters?
  3. I am a mechanical design engineer. I do not see any advantage in the features set of Machine Design over Fundamentals. The collections of screws, pins, gears, etc. may be helpful to some. However vendors of such components make 3D CAD models available for download. VW should have a greased path for importing those models and putting into a symbol library. Does anyone know how to do that?
  4. 3D dimensions are coming on strong and are standardized under ASME Y14.41. This should be supported by VW.
  5. I strongly support the need for STEP, it is now the de-facto standard for solids. NNA, please get with it!
  6. Has anyone tried the Logitech 3DConnexion Space Navigator? I saw an announcement about it being compatible with VW some time ago, and I recently got one. However it doesn't seem to do what I wanted it for (rotating, panning, zooming) in 3d. The control panel for it doesn't seem to offer many settings. Any suggestions from anyone?
  7. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAD_data_exchange This Wiki entry is a good starting point. STEP is vendor-neutral (compared to say, Parasolid), and is in common use in CAM such as for tool-making. STEP supersedes IGES, the previous vendor-neutral standard.
  8. Please add import and export of STEP file format for 3D solids. This is a robust standard, much better than IGES. This would be useful for sharing with other more comprehensive MCAD programs (Pro/E, UG, Solidworks, etc) as well as for CAM (moldmaking, etc).
  9. Is there any way to import STEP files? Or, plans to add that, in addition to IGES import/export? This would be very handy, because of 3rd party symbols that are available.

  11. For much of my tech illustration work, text that is centered both H and V is convenient for labeling blocks, etc. Now at the beginning of a session, I have to go and make that setting. Next session, it resets to Left and Top alignment. I want that to be "sticky" such that the next session, it is in the same alignment style that I left it. A Preference setting would help...
  12. When I want to edit a polygon, I want to move the vertices, not the entire object. There are already other ways to move the entire object, including the position entries above. I want a preference to set such that Move always comes up as Vertex Only, not Entire Object
  13. I left the VW 12.5 folder and all contents untouched in Applications before attempting to install 12.5.1. (The older VW 11 folder is also still in Applications.) Since trying and failing to install the upgrade, and now reading about so many problem reports, i am reluctant to try again. Please reassure me!
  14. I downloaded the updater for 12.5.0 to 12.5.1 and tried to install it. when locating the folder where VW resides, as the update installer instructed, the installer proptly quit before i could select the VW folder. I tried this several times, even quit all and restarted, same result. I have a brand-new Mac running the latest OS X, VW 12.5.0 runs fine. What is the matter with this update installer?
