  1. So if doing a loft what do you think is the best approach make a number of stair like nurbs that rotate around a central point and maybe align distribute vertically?
  2. Michael I think this is helpful, but the problem is this is not a smooth surface. This is for a potential large scale production and it cannot be something that falls at the end like that, if you showed that to an artist they'd freak. Just trying to figure out if there is a technique for a sweep or loft or something like that to create this. Matt
  3. It is a 2008 file extension I attached a 12 file
  4. So I am trying to make a curved ramp. The idea being that I have a stage and above it there is a balcony or whatever you choose to call it. I want to have a sort of C shaped curved ramp go from level 1 to level 2. The key part is I want there to be flat surfaces at the start and end for the artist to get on and off of. I attached a file with a kinder cad representation of what I am trying to do, with out my curved thing. Matt
  5. Hello all, I have a model that has been sent to me a as a mesh. It has in the neighborhood of 600,000 polygons. It looks great after I take 3 hours to navigate around and see what I want. Any ideas on how I may be able to reduce this and maintain the integrity of it? I realize there probably isn't really anything to be done, but doesn't hurt to ask. Matt

  7. Hello all, Has anyone ever thought up or have a way of making some type of a lamp bar script? Say something where I get some type of dialogue box that maybe asks me What direction the whip comes off, Lamp 1 Wattage, Lens, Color, Focus, Purpose or anything else anyone else might think of and repeat for the remaining 3 or 5 lamps? If anyone knew how to do this as well as merge this with the already existing lighting info record with spotlight to take those lamps into account or have it count those as seperate, but count all things with the lighting record that would be awesome. Matt
  8. I may be wrong with this but would a sweep work for you with your slightly egg shaped line around your locus?
  9. I have a 2 way worksheet I created to label some booths for an expo type of thing. I have a record format I linked to them and in the report I added and x center column and y center column. There is text in the booth symbol that is linked to a record for booth number. I want to add all the booth numbers in the report. I sorted by x and y so it makes sense now I just want to go through and auto number these. Short of going to the booth number row and adding 1, 2, 3, etc. I cannot figure out how to do something like in excel where I can start a sequence and drag down to have it number them sequentially. Is there a formula I can add? or something. Matt
  10. Make a new record format with whatever you want to report. Mine has an x dim and y dim for this. Edit your symbol click in a blank area and go to your data tab put an x in the box next to the record you want to link to. Than fill in for that particular symbol what you want associated with it. You can change it when you are not in your symbol for individual occurances. When you go to run your report you get your dimensions displayed if you have it set up as earlier mentioned, however I am not sure how to make some sort of 2 way communication to have that dimension display. Even if it wasn't like a normal dimension, but just the x and y position coridinates next to the symbol so I know where it lies on my work space.
  11. Well this brings me to another question. Mine is in a record format. I have this record linked to symbols and I want to know where all these symbols are located throughout my drawing. I run the report with all things with that form of record format and I get a thing that looks similar to the screen shot above. Than I just put in there using () instead of "" and than bam it is on the report. So here is a question anyone know how to have the x and y position show up on the symbol in some sort of text linked to record set up? Matt
  12. I have a symbol and I want to make a report with it. In the report I want the X and Y positions in relation to the origin. Can Vectorworks do this? Matt
  13. I started using the title block in the border feature with a home made title block. I have a revision section on there. However the revision does not track to all sheets and I want it to. Any idea if there is a way to do that? The only thing I can think of is not making it as a revision, but in the title block on the p_ section. However I like the little box that comes up offering me options in my revisions like only display the 3 most recent and don't want to lose that. Any ideas anyone? Matt
  14. So okay here is probably a dumb question. After getting all that to work and it sorts the way I want it to I have it appear as row 2.0 than 2.1 2.2 2.3 and so forth. That is fine. Although I do not want the first row where it says there are 19 total pieces or all sizes or how ever that it. Any idea on what to do for that?
  15. I know the topic has come up before, but I am hoping someone has come up with something to help me here. I want a truss record. And some other records, but this is an easy example to help me hopefully. I want the record to contain all sorts of things like Truss Type ie 12x12, 12x18 20.5x20.5 and so forth Truss Length 5' 8' 10' and so on Truss Color Black/Silver Connection Type and Ideally Positon. What these pieces make up audience FOH and so forth. Now I made this record and applied it to a few of my truss symbols. Than I run a report. What I want is to have a summary of haw many black 12x12 10', silver 20x20 5' and so forth. However it just list them all. What do I want to have in the report to make it know how to summarize in this manner? The only even remote solution I have had is make just one record field that says silver 12x12 10' in one field and have summarize by field check box checked. Please help, Matt
  16. Great just the info I needed. In addition I had one other thing come up. I am using the revision data title block options. In my custom title block any insight on how to control the spacing of the various revisions? They are going way to far apart at the moment. Matt
  17. I am semi new to using worksheets. I have used basic ones I have made, but trying to step it up here looking for some help. I have a record format that I want to display -The type of my thing -The Size of my thing -The color of my thing -A label of what group it belongs to So I made this and applied it to some symbols, but it doesn't display the way I want it to in my report. My size is a length and when I run the report I summarize items with the same size. However it then is giving me the total size overall. I want to just know a quantity of that certain size that is that certain type as well. Ideally I would like something that Summarized how many of type A at size X, how many of Type A size Y, Type B size X and so forth. In addition to that I want to have a report of this on my design layer referenced to a number of viewports on various sheet layers displaying that information. I want to have that same report always updating with changes. I know there is something easy I am missing. What is it?
  18. I just made the switch to vectorworks 2008. Thus far I like it and have a few questions on some of the new features. The color pallet it really cool. I like the way it is set up now and that there is a more logical setup. Now some colors have names associated with them. How can I add a name to it? I have batches of symbols that similar symbols share the same color and I am always making new symbols in these categories and I always have to look back to see what color they were because I want them to match. If I can name a certain green as my this type of green than that would be very helpful and so forth. Also another 2008 concern. There have been a few times when I may have 2 or 3 files open and I go to a sheet layer start panning and zooming around and the border stays the same and doesn't adjust. I go to another file the previous files sheet layer stays displayed. I have to close vectorworks and restart and than it is fine for a bit and does it again. Maybe this is just a bug after install, but worth asking if anyone else has come across it.
  19. Hi any helpful people. I have a set of custom title blocks I have made with my own record format with all the fields I want in there and such. Now is it possible to have vectorworks auto fill is some of the fields based on the file information? Say for my date it auto put in todays date? Possibly for the filed I have listed as of total drawing number put in the total sheets? Maybe take the scale from the central viewport and add that in somewhere? Are these to complicated things to ask of it?
  20. Does anyone have any decent Boat, ATV, or Jet Ski Symbols they might be willing to share? Matt

    Video Wall help

So I do not use image props to often and not like this. How do I apply the image prop to the tubes I am trying to render? I put a small section of what I am doing as an attachment. This is where I am. I have the image prop surface and extruded tubes. Can I combine these? Matt

    Video Wall help

Yes, that has been my other option. The problem is that I need something that I may be able to easily change when we propose this. So if these pannels go from one arrangement to another I do not have to recreate all that negative space. Matt
  24. shoot me an e-mail and I can reply with mine if you want. mgohring@gmail.com mgohring@upstaging.com Matt
  25. I am attempting to render a video wall. The wall is made up of wall panels. Each panel contains these tubes. About 24 or so tubes per panel with a noticeable gap between each tube. We will be sending mapped video signal to the tubes in real life so what I am looking for is some way to apply an image across the entire wall but only have it appear on the tubes like it would in real life. What I have done at the moment is create a symbol of one wall piece. Each tube an extruded circle like it is and on its own class. I am hoping that I may be able to just have a class that is all the video tubes only and be able to adjust the texture to apply over only the tubes? Does this sound crazy or does someone else have a better idea? To add even more interesting stuff to it the wall is not one solid wall. It is 4 panels high and 4 panels wide, but there are areas that panels will be removed for various reasons. Thanks for the help in advance. Matt
