  1. Gave that a try no luck either. A little strange to me. Matt
  2. I wonder if it is a vw2008 thing or an excel 2003 thing. I am putting up some screen shots to show what I am talking about, but I keep getting it. Matt
  3. At our company we have various types of excel files we fill out in tracking inventory. I made a report that tells me how much stuff I have and the details of that stuff. It takes the information from the record associated with it. I am finding it useful to take the database portion of some of these reports and copy the data into excel. The odd thing is that it adds a row between every record. Anyone ever have this issue or have a solution to keep it from doing this? Matt
  4. I selected the nurbs surfaces and ran that. When I did all I got was a rectangle with a lot of verricies that was on the ground plane if you will. Maybe I did it wrong.
  5. I am somewhat new to the 3d landscape in that I have typically worked with basic solids and now I am trying to make a tow along for a motorcycle. I have pictures of it front, back, left, top. I scaled them to be roughly the dimensions they are. Now where I am at is figuring sense it is symitrical I would draw half of it and mirror then add the solids. I traced the top view using a polyline extruded it to a proper height then converted to nurbs surfaces and have been using my 3d reshape tool to try and reshape it. I do not know if this is much of a question, but more advice. Does this sound like a good way of approaching this? I am finding I can get the perimiter shape pretty close, but then I try to get the top to drape over properly and after I increased the u and v degree, but there are just a lot of points. Which is good for the look, but hard after I move them to determine which is which. Thoughts? I am attaching a picture of a similar trailer and a screen shot of where I am at.
  6. Sorry I am not sure I understand what you are asking. Maybe you could try to explain an example. I am not a architect so I may not be the most qualified person in explaining my workflow. Just a curious, but why are you stacking so many viewports? I have not really found much of a reason to do this. If it is about what you want on top you can designate this in your stack order in layers or by bringing things forward or backward. The only need I have ever found for this is when I am working on something and I want to do 3d notation I will do it in a right iso or something similar put them on the same layer but different class and then when I make my vp it will put the text in plan view only so I will duplicate a vp on top of it and only turn on my notes then switch to top plan to see them. Just curious. Matt
  7. Name them. When you have the vp selected go to the data tab in the oip and type a name it doesn't lock in until you deselect the vp. You can also enter it when you first create them. In the navagation pallet there is a tab to select vps and you can just click the name you want then you get only that. Matt
  8. Would it be crazy to ask if you could send me an example? I use your D Title Block took all the time and it is a great tool by the way. Thanks a bunch. I just cannot seem to get this without making it a database. Matt
  9. What that drawing is of a self climbing tower, but the towers are not actually 20x they are 12x12. The sleeve block is basically a 20x corner block with little wheel like things in it where a motor pulls it up. The drawing you sent is all 2d. I have a basic 3d version of the system but it is over 5 mb and I cannot post it. If you want me to send it to you shoot me an e-mail. mgohring@upstaging.com Matt
  10. Sorry didn't look that you were using 12. I back saved to 12 for you. When they switched from numbers to years they changed the file extension. Matt
  11. I have a record format. I call it TitleBlock. I have fields like P_Project Title 1 and such that are linked to fields on my various symbols of title blocks so I can use them globally across my drawing with the drawing border tool. All good on that part. What I want to be able to do is take the information on that that is subscored with the P_ for my project that is constant and place it in a worksheet I am making. I typically will send out forms about my project to certain people letting them know who is who and all that. I also have made a form that is not smart with contact information on it that I place on a cover page of my drawing packet. A lot of that information is repetitive to information in my title block so I am thinking I can save myself a step if I can make them talk. I have put a little effort into this, but am missing the target on how to do it. One thought was make a worksheet and just put =P_Project Title 1 and that didn't work and similar options have failed as well. What do people think. Can this work? Matt
  12. I am attaching a super simple example. Just made a 10' section of 20x and adjusted the hanging angle from 0 to 90. If you are using the self climbing towers you know the climbing sleeve will be a alternate size and you should get that information. Hopefully this helps. Matt
  13. This is something that sometimes varies from fabricator to fabricator. Because it sounds like you want to be accurate with this I would contact the manufacturer about getting a drawing. Or if you know the dimensions draw it yourself. I think the truss tool, which I am guessing you are using is not something you really want to use for this. If you are just looking for a top view of a 10' truss you can rotate the truss from the truss tool in 3d and use that. This is probably something also best placed in the spotlight forum, but either way. Hopefully that helps. Matt

    Red Truss !

Yes. There is a highlight check box at the bottom of the oip when you have the truss made by the truss tool selected. That should get rid of it. The reason this is happening is because your length and connection interval aren't playing well with each other. In your oip there is a drop down that says connection type. If you have anything selected then it needs to use your connection interval. Say I have a 13' truss and my connection interval is 5'. It will highlight the 3' at the end to indicate the error and you can resolve it however you see fit. doe that help? Matt
  15. I am still only using 2008, but I have noticed that the seats that come with vw in 2008 as opposed to 12 have something funny going on with them. The 3d elements on the back of the chair make one of those instances where the group is larger then the objects. Just strange. It sounds like you got it figured out though. My only thoughts would be to find a seat you like in vw or some outside source and redraw over it with simple objects in 2d and 3d because they are going to be repeated by well a lot. Matt
  16. What color temp are they? You can get color correction. Depending on how the fixture is built you could color correct a lens if one is there. If they are just basic outdoor lights there probably is a lens and there are different types of dips and such you can use to color them to offset the look of the probably bluish led. http://www.rosco.com/us/scenic/colorine.asp Here is a link to a company that makes a product for that while none of the colors are actually color correction you can probably play with it to get it more like what you want. Matt
  17. I want to make a script kinda like spotlight that will create a tool much like it does in spotlight. Where I take an active symbol that has a certain type of record associated with it and I can have it appear in as a thing in the object info pallet that thing would also have drop downs with only 3 or 4 choices in each field. How hard do you think this would be? matt
  18. On top of that I am now having some printing problems. Except I haven't been able to look into vectorworks as to what tells the printer to print from vectorworks. Mat
  19. Yeah that is exactly what I was hoping for. I just am fairly unfamiliar with a lot of the 3d tool sets and was not sure how to "extract" the curves from a surface. Matt
  20. I contacted tech support because it became very problematic. I thought it was a file problem at first and I tried looking at other plots that used that script. None of them worked either. I had a eval copy on my computer at one point at the program folder was still there. I went into the Plug In folder copied the lighting device vso from the eval and pasted it into the real copy plug in folder. It seemed to resolve the problem. I had to make a few of the changes I had made to it again but not the end of the world. I wonder how that had become corrupt. I have been trying as you can see in another post to share my workspaces and plugins and such maybe something went pear shaped with that. Matt
  21. I am somewhat of a novice in the nurbs forum. I typically only use for lofting purposes. I will typically take nurbs curves and loft them without rails. Now I have some nurbs surfaces and I am wanting to loft them but I cannot. Is there an operation that lets me convert them to curves? Or can I somehow loft the surfaces? Matt
  22. I solved the problem with getting it to start. Now I am noticing the first time that the sync took place all went well. Now I changed things on the workspace on my desktop and those changes are not synced to my laptop. When I am choosing the user folder to get my information from for vectorworks what folder do I want to choose. On a windows machine there is one C:\Program Files\VectorWorks 2008 and one that is C:\Documents and Settings\Upstaging User\Application Data\Nemetschek\VectorWorks\2008 Both have workspace folders in them, but I am not sure what one would have the correct work space because the name of the one I am using is in both. Matt
  23. Yeah I have found myself sometimes doing something similar. I never did it with the Fixture labels but it sounds like a good place to start. I just found something out the other day which was really interesting. I am trying to standardize my files and use a thought out class structure. I hate that the label legend classes show up the way they do because it doesn't fit well. If I make a label legend I like then edit the class name it still works in all the ways prior to that. I just think that is awesome. Matt
  24. I do a lot of shows with big stack of lights on back walls. Currently I am doing one where there are par bars on par bars on par bars. The standard label legend just isn't useful for this. Is there a way or is this more of a wish list thing to have the numbers appear in 3d on a front view some how. That would be awesome. I am currently making a viewport of the front view and just doing text fields with the numbers and when the design changes I have to go through and fix it all twice. Very frustrating. Matt
  25. I just tried to move a lighting device in a plot. I originally drew the plot passed it off to someone else and have gotten it back for some changes. The error says "A Vectorscript error has occurred on this locked plug-in. Refer to the file "Error Output" for a further explanation." My guess is the error is in the Lighting Device script because what else would it be. Under "C:\Documents and Settings\Upstaging User\Application Data\Nemetschek\VectorWorks\2008" I found a text file Error Output. That is the only place I could find such a file. Not sure if it has the info I am looking for. The text file goes as follows. Line #500: GETPROJECTION(_416)ELSE _3268 :=GETPROJECTION(ACTLAYER);GETVIEW(_3262,_3263,_3264,_3265,_3266,_3267);IF (_3268 <>6)&((_3262 <>0)|(_3263 <>0)|(_3264 <>0))THEN BEGIN SETVIEW(0,0,0,_3265,_3266,_3267); | { Error: Identifier not declared. } | { Error: Expected a string. } | { Error: Did not expect this after end of statement - missing ;? } | { Error: Identifier not declared. } | { Error: Expected a string. } | { Error: Did not expect this after end of statement - missing ;? } For some reason in looking at this I would not expect this to be the problem. Any thoughts on what it could be. I cannot work too well without this. Matt
