  1. Sorry for the delay... I did try to install from the burnt DVD with no luck, then copied to HDD.
  2. I have just (and only just) finished installing VW2008 with lots of trouble. Using the supplied install disk I tried installing onto my machine with Vista 32bit Ultimate & 4gig ram and then on another machine (which is identical) with no luck. And no error messages. I then tried on my laptop (WINXP Pro 2gig Ram) and did not install. My business partner was supplied with a disk which I also tried installing from but with the same results. I even tried using different DVD drives, fitted into the machines and then connected via USB...and still no joy. It installed to about 69% then displayed and error message that it could not open WinAppA. I tried copying both install disks onto my machine and it did not want to copy, so by this stage about 4hours later (I'm very patient) I was getting frustrated. Each time I tried it haulted on copying either WinAppA or Common1-6. So being technically minded (sort of) I thought...what if I copy the dvd? I tried copying the disk but this did not work either. The error was "cannot read from source". I then tried creating an image file, thinking it's worth a go I suppose having been supplied with 2 dud dvd install disks. But Nero created an image file with no problem, so I continued down this track. I then burnt that image file back onto a blank DVD. Once burnt I then copied the contents of my DVD onto my local drive...SUCCESS!. I then installed it without a problem from my local drive. I dont understand why this would work but it did.
  3. My suggestion would be to those thinking that you got ripped off is...did you research before purchasing? Was there an alternative package available & produced locally? Is the software produced locally have the same features available to the software that is potentialy going to ripped you off? Is the local product cost effective? Is it going to give you the return you so wish to have without spending more? You don't go and buy a fridge to wash clothes, and complain that it does not have the enough features. You go out look at different models of washer and decide on features along with price. At he end of the day it's your choice, and you would have been advised on price. If you decide that you have been ripped off after the fact you have purchased is you misfortune. I bought VW as it makes me feel good. Like buying a car. You relax behind the wheel of a car that is confortable and easy to drive. Research better I say!
  4. OMG...I know this, must the time of the month. Thanks for the reminder.
  5. Is there such a tool available when...selecting an object that you want its class or layer to become active?
  6. What truss tool? Where is it or where can I get from?
  7. Check out Ozcad.com.au. They have a addon called WinDoor tool. Probebly just what your looking for.
  8. Dont forget a decent video card (Dont rely of onboard video processors) with independant ram...minimum I'd go for here now is 256...more if you can afford it.
  9. Why are my VP Section Markers text always changing size. I update each SM individually on the DL and this alters the size of the txt in the VP. Can I lock the zie or something?
  10. Patients is a vertue! Mike M, thanks very much for your advice. I did exactly what you said, reducing the conversion settings in VWA Preferences, however...it still did not work until I rebooted my comp, restarted VWA and amazingly the updating of the VP is lightning fast. As we all know WinXp Pro (and all MS OS's) leave residual amounts of program resident in the ram. So restarting VWA without a reboot after adjusting these settings does not work. From now on I'll reboot after making major display setting changes. Anyway thanks for heading me in the right direction Cheers!...P.S. Katie, please advise Nemet of this possible issue, could be effecting hundreds of users.
  11. I have spent the best part of the day transfering the main drawing thru WGR to a fresh blank template. I have come to the point where I am creating a Section VP, and guess what...the problem I had originally is still there. I now believe that it's a serious VW flaw. I am now attempting to reinstall VW to see if this corrects the problem.
  12. Well creating a new one didn't speed things up. So I'm going to attack the classes now.
  13. I'll create a new VP of what I want and if this updates quickly I'll transfer my annotations to the new one. Otherwise I will check each class after that and do a purge. It's worth a go.
  14. I use an external time keep software, however what I am suggesting is that the log file be used in conjunction with an external one. Maybe the log is kept on the desktop rather than in the mcd file location so the user can see what they have worked on during a single day. Sometimes I can be working on 5 jobs in one day within VWA. Just a suggestion.
  15. I have left VWA to update without undoing the name change of the DLyr's. It is working but taking a while. I set all VP's at 72dpi constantly, so I dont think it would be this. Once I have updated the VP's I would expect that it will speed things up again. Otherwise I will revert the DLyr's back to the original name.
  16. mmmm...your on the right track there I think. I had changed a couple of the design layer names. I did not realize that this effected the viewport updating. Can I change them back to the original name to illimate the problem?
  17. I have opened a file with a fair few VP's. The file was saved and closed properly. I open it this morning 2 days later and I cannot update the VP's. VWA just hangs.
  18. How about Nemet adding a time log file of all mouse or crosshair motion in an open file. Recording the time in each open file rather than just the program. This would record the time from when the file opens to when it is closed. It could possibly record the time when each tool button is selected, and if more than one file is open and one is motionless for more than a minute it records ?no motion between he time of?. The file being saved also saves the log file with the mcd drawing file. e.g. joe.mcd & joe.txt. The purpose of this would be to acurately keep time for each job, either for an individual user or as a big brother for a large company. Shouldn't be to hard to add, right Nemet?
  19. I would expect that when nothing is selected the OIP displays the default pen settings. The displayed defaults are able to be altered at will. Once something selected the display is then showing what the defaults are for that obj. Works just the same as the AP works now.
  20. What I am doing to overcome this is to place the viewport default name within the viewport as I create it. Maybe Nemet can title each view port that is non printing i.e like the red & white un-updated border of a viewport. Thanks anyway...and heres hopeing.
  21. Why not combine the attributes pallet with the Obj Info Pallet. When nothing is selected the OIP displays the default pen settings. While in this state you can change. When an obj has been selected the attributes are displayed, Foreground, background, line style/thinkness, arrows etc. Aren't the attributes part of an object anyway? And it removes a pallet from the display realestate.
  22. I would like to see the name of the viewport displayed on the Obj Info Pallet, and not just Viewport! Very frustrating.
  23. Replaced MB last week and loaded up to date video software from manuf.
  24. Winxp Pro. There is no warning message. VW just locks up then the Windows OS displays the send message to Microsoft to diagnose.
  25. VW12.5.1 crashes after hitting the delete key. It does'nt happen all the time and it does not matter what I'm deleting to make it crash, it can be text, symbols, or line, doesnt really matter. Please HELP!
