  1. because then they'll be opening and saving the same drawings on VW12.5 and VW2008, which i am assuming are not entirely compatible. seems like a recipe for curruptions at any rate. plus in terms of staff being able to use 1 consistent cad systme no matter which machine they are at. I don't see why they don't still sell it, you can still buy copies of windows xp for the very same reason.
  2. iboymatt do you mean with a network dongle or with the existing dongles?
  3. I've been told by my supplier that "they have a couple of copies left" Does this mean we are soon going to be forced to upgrade the whole firm to 2008 if we get 1 extra person?
  4. Our company is expanding and I've been asked to look at shared network licenses, so we only need to buy license for 95% of staff on the assumption that there will always be someone out of the office / not using VW. Has anyone done this successfully? is there a discount for buying bulk licenses? I know it can be done with the educational version. we are in the UK so have to use the dongles
  5. The UK resellers seem to have stopped listing VW12.5 in their product line-ups. We need to add another desk but don't want to upgrade the whole office yet... how do we get hold of one?
  6. if i'm going to convince my boss to pay for the upgrade he's going to want to see it before the breaks out the credit card. ad I want to know it's worth it... it's not an inconsiderable amount of money
  7. if it needs to be a neat, tidy and very accurate cad file then it can be quite stack of work and can be better to re-draw. the automated processes thend to make messy files
  8. coming from a microstation background christiaan's method seems very intuitive to me. real world orientation of models is very useful, here a great deal of landscape (and initial building grid establishments) is done with eastings and northings. I'll be nervous about doing it in vectorworks as I bet you'll be re-rotating drawings constantly and I don't know if you'll be able to rotate drawings relative to sheet-files and print boxes as reliably as in microstation.
  9. if you mean "EXPORT AS DWG LAYERS :CLASSES" . this option is disabled when you are exporting from a sheet layer. god knows why. This is causing us serious grief, means we can't control revisions and issue status on the dwgs we issue. anyone got a solution?
  10. Does anyone know how much the upgrade to VW2008 will be? (in the UK ideally), can we expect it to be the same as the current v11-v12 upgrade? or more or less? Also is the smart option to wait until 13.1?
  11. does anyone have a clue about this? I've drawn a complete blank and it is causing a lot of problems.
  12. I hope christiaan's method works, this is by far the preferable. robert's 'correct workflow' method throws up all sorts of potential problems, maybe not such a big deal when plugging out multiple detached buildings* but if you are working on a scheme with an integrated landscape, you want them drawn co-incidentally and on the same co-ordinate system..
  13. when we export our sheets to DWG the classes and layer info of the design layer elements (ie the plan info) is all converted to be the same layer (so class/layer info is lost) as the viewport it was in. what am I doing wrong? we are being told that by our consultants that our drawings are basically unusable.
  14. as someone equally curious.. but wiith less time on my hands! how does the networking behave? is it like working on a standard windows box? we have a specification program here that is PC only, it would be good not to have the windows box lurking under a desk
  15. this is all getting a bit personal. People should bear in mind that we often have limited ability to move CAD packages, the people who make the desicions in a company may be long gone and the effort of transfer is to much (plus if you are on a mac the choice is pretty limited) .. if OzCAD add value then fair enough they should take an extra cut, but i fail to see why we are not be able to buy the US version for the US price. if ozcad are sitting there with a pool of users who cannot move and are rachetting up the price, or not passing on savings then i think it's fair to say they are ripping the users off, price gouging or whatever you want to call it.
  16. I find mine a bit temperamental but the p_ and S_ things do work.. though in typical vectorworks style the language is confusing. the p_ attrubites will only be affected in the file you are in, not the entire 'project'.. so it will deal with multiple sheet layers but not multiple files. I dread to think of running a project with 1 file. I don't know if this si how yours work.. i can't see what you've done wrong.
  17. THANK YOU! that's been annoying me for ages
  18. we use the jfmarch version for going between A1 and A3 paper. having paper sizes that are not proportions of each other sounds like an absolute nightmare... and copy and pasting stuff to make the review copy sounds slow and unreliable. can the main sheets be made to be 34x22?
  19. Dworks.. if I have multiple sheet layers with multiple saved views, it runs the risk of people printing from the sheet layer and not using the saved view, which will make the drawing wrong. I just cant see why different sheet layers can't have different class visibilities.
  20. Christiaan unfortunately we crop the viewport to the side of the title block, so i'd need an extra one.. I went with the revolutionary step of drawing it on the sheet layer in the end.. seemed the quickest way. Dworks I've never been able to snap vieports to objects see here http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Board=7&Number=79622&Searchpage=2&Main=17615&Words=mralistair&topic=0&Search=true#Post79622
  21. there is a joke there about imperialism and empire building..... someone else can fill in the blanks
  22. nothing different as such but I don't understand why they are menus and not tools, it seems inconsistent. especially given there are tools for every 'mickey mouse' feature. I've found new users get particularly frustrated by it.
  23. it's a part of the title block though, not a key on the drawing. I'd rather not have extra viewports for every sheet. it goes back to the lack of ability to control layer and class combinations in vectorworks. i.e. display class A and B in Layer 1 and only A in layer 2. viewports are too liable to be moved and since the snapping of viewports is lousy it's not tight enough to do this kind of thing
