  1. I'm guessing you've selected the 'Disable interactive scaling' option of the Select tool - the diagonal arrows in the top LHS of mode bar (or shortcut key U)
  2. Dai - check the class of the Plant object itself - if that's the same as the symbols then that could be the problem.
  3. Hi Dai Make sure your symbols & tags are in different classes then just turn off the symbol class(es). (Edit the plant symbol to change its class, use the Tag Class option in the Plant definition to assign those). You can also tweak the rendering of the plants (Plant defintion/rendering/outline & mass overlapping plants) so the plant groups are outlined rather than showing the symbols - might make for a cleaner presentation? Cheers Keith
  4. Hi Dai First off, why use 1:1 on the design layer? That's a bit of an AutoCADism and isn't the most common way of working in VW. The simple solution may be to re-scale the design layer to one of the working scales then you may find a sensible point size to use for the font so it's legible on all the sheet layers. An alternative is to place plants in the viewport annotation space - that way you can work at different scales but use the same text size, but then if you want to use one of the standard VW plant schedules you need to edit the criteria used for the report to include components of viewports, otherwise these plants won't show. (if that makes no sense then I'd suggest you grab some coaching/training to help you get the most out of VW) For repositioning the tags use the 2D select tool (with dynamic rescaling option turned on) there's a handle you can use to drag the plant tag to wherever you want. Left/Right controls which side of the leader line the text will appear on. Good luck!
  5. Hi Gilly To set the size of the label in advance you need to change the default text size - make sure you've got nothing selected then set the Text size to the size you require. To retrospectively change tags you've already got, use the Tools/Custom Selection command to Select everything where Type is Plant, then change the text size for all of them in one go.
  6. I've been mulling over the pros and cons of being able to assign keyboard shortcuts more precisely, so they take you to specific configurations of a tool rather than to the tool as last used - so as a very basic example you could set two different key combinations for 'offset original' and 'offset duplicate'. Of course the complexity comes with defining which modes are assigned when using the shortcut and which are left floating (eg. offset distance in the above example) - and the workspace editor implementation to do it would be tricky. Any thoughts? Useful idea or am I just getting frustrated after a long week spent hitting U,I, O & P?
  7. Just noticed an inconsistency between the work flow for defining new classes & layers - when defining a new layer the new layer automatically becomes the active layer, but this isn't the case when defining a new class. So how about adding another check box in the New Class dialogue under 'Edit after creation', something like 'Make Active on Creation'? After all, most of the time the reason I need to create a new class is because I need to use it to draw something straight away and invariably do so in the wrong class before realising my mistake, changing the class of the new object in the OIP then changing the active class... don't tell me I'm the only one!
  8. Which render mode are you using? Those are all HDRI backgrounds so won't render correctly in many modes (and may take a while to render in final quality too)
  9. If you click on the drawing before pasting the new object is centred on the position you clicked. Works for me anyway! Keith
  10. Doesn't Compose do this? Works for me - similarly Decompose to break Chain Dims into individual Dims.
  11. In the eye dropper tool properties there's a check box for 'pick up sets defaults'.
  12. If you create new plants by duplicating an existing one from the Plant tool preferences dialogue the plant tag setting is carried through, so you only need to set the name, size, ID etc. Works fine if you use a limited symbol set for your plants.
  13. You've got two options - either a series of 'Saved Views' with the page location restored in each, or Viewports and Sheet Layers which are the more elegant (and flexible) solution.
  14. You can select the default text attributes by setting them with no object selected, the same principle as setting the default line/fill attributes. Unfortunately there's no way to set text attributes by class.
  15. Katie What I'm after is for the Plant tag to switch sides depending on the angle of the label line/position of label relative to plant group - sure, we can define a default of left or right and then switch it manually but when you're doing complex planting layouts the work flow is place plant, adjust tag position, move to oip, switch tag side then fine tune tag position until the leader snaps to a sensible plant. It would be simplified if this work flow could be place plant, adjust tag position (with line switching sides automatically), move label line to required plant. The OIP should keep the option to change the tag position if required. It just needs the same logic as a callout which has left, right and auto options. Hope that makes sense Keith
  16. And while I'm at it, how about being able to move the 'Plant' end of the tag to a particular plant? (bet it's not the first time that one's been raised!)
  17. It's in the Callout tool, but why do we have to shuffle plant tags from 'Left' to 'Right' manually? An Auto option would really speed up planting plans - could we have Plant Tag Display options of 'None', 'Left', 'Right', 'Auto' please!
  18. Have you tried starting from scratch with a new file? Also double check all the settings and ensure that the layers are in top/plan - if you've managed to set the other layer into a 3D view the snap options won't work. The things I can think of that control snapping are the Constraints Palette, the Class & Layer options and the view - if they're all correct there should be no problem. Re selecting objects, VW will select the front most object that it is able to select - unless your objects are totally coincident you may be able to use a marquee/modifier to select the one you're after, or else you can send the frontmost one backwards or if you're using classes you can restrict the class options to only select the class you're looking for.
  19. Zhin - check that the other layers you want to snap to are the same scale as the layer you're in and that you've got them all set to top/plan view - and of course check the class options as well as the layer options (show/snap/modify others). If you uncheck the 'scale text' button when you change the layer scale then the point size of the text will not be altered, effectively re-sizing it inversely to the scale change. If you want to change the font for all the dimensions on one layer, set the active class to Dimension, class & layer options to 'show others', then select all and use the text menus to change the font. Alternatively set the default font before you start by setting the text values with nothing selected. To override dimension values select the object then in the object info palette uncheck the 'show dim value' box, you can type your own values in using the Leader & trailer fields.
  20. Object Information Palette! I assumed VW 2008 in my reply - IIRC you could use 'Plug in Object' in the custom selection to do the same (or similar) in earlier versions.
  21. Either use Custom Selection to select all the plants (ie Tools/Custom Selection -> Select Only where Type is Plant) then turn off the tags from the OIP or (with a bit of set-up effort) use a separate class for plant tags and then turn it off
  22. Ahhh - gotcha. Yep, a simple change that could have some benefit.
  23. Why not just set the 'use at creation' flag on the class definition if you want new objects to use that style?
