  1. Christian says: " I can't pan in 2D or 3D and I can't zoom in 2D or 3D." The New Features movie I mentioned would lead one to believe that he can do these things. There was time to create the sales pitch, but not the actual function? http://download2.nemetschek.net/www_movies/2008/3DConnexionSpaceNavigator.mov
  2. I have some limited functions in VW 12.5. I can pan L & R, and toggle the zoom on & off with the left SN button. The zoom reacts to the position of the cursor. Katie, is the VW website demo a realistic presentation of how the SN works in 2008? Is it a Windows Mac thing? Christian seems to very limited functions and no way to adjust them. It seems that I can do more with an unsupported version. Why is that a wish list item and not a bug? George
  3. I don't have VW 2008 yet, so I can't try it. That sounds similar to the way C4D works. C4D comes with a pre-installed plug in that controls the Space Navigator and unless you open it the way you would a palette in VW, nothing happens. This plug in provides the interface to adjust the SN in C4D. I'm not familiar with that demo and the movie on the VW website doesn't explain how or if you can adjust the SN. Katie, any suggestions? George
  4. Christian, Isn't there a 3D Connexion Control Panel on the Mac version? http://www.home.earthlink.net/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=560&linkpath=http://home.earthlink.net/~ghann1/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/control_panel.jpg&target=tlx_new George
  5. "I guess I'll have to decide which is more efficient - waiting for VW to load or hunting for symbols." Can you find all those symbols in the ~70 seconds that you saved in the initial startup?
  6. Bruce, I agree, this is a problem. Unfortunately the hyphen is read as a minus operation by VW. Maybe the whole number in the fraction could be a different size to avoid the confusion. George
  7. It's worth trying the older driver. There seem to be a number of display problems being reported by users with nVidia cards.
  8. After rereading the various posts regarding VW2008 problems (screen flicker, crashes, etc), many are using nVidia cards. Unfortunately, many posts do not list their hardware configurations. If those having problems could provide this information as well as a description of the problem a clearer pattern may emerge. I am still using VW 12.5, ATI card, but have never had any of the screen flicker issues. Katie often recommends updating video drivers, but some nVidia users report having done this and are still having problems.
  9. The video cards are probably from PNY(NVIDIA) or AMD (ATI) and driver updates would come from their websites. Dell has driver downloads for the cards they put in their machines, but usually are not the most recent versions.
  10. I haven't had the flicker problem yet (human or computer), but the Release Notes with my latest ATI video driver update mentions the following: "On certain products playing back VC-1 and H.264 content with display resolution set at 1360x768 or higher may result in screen flashing." Certain Video Cards maybe. Islandmon, Pete - I guess the subliminal effect of the flicker is working! I suggest 2 hours in a dark closet, no audio or visual stimulation.
  11. Hmm, I thought I did, perhaps you could clarify. NL's roll out of Maxwell Render last year was quite entertaining, unless you had sent them money. Take a look at what went on last year before sending in that order: http://www.dugge.de/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=1&sid=196135246b7fb4e2615eab5a0963ba9c
  12. It might be better to put the pressure on Next Limit. Why would NNA create a free plug in for a third party renderer and undermine their own product, that would be the conflict of interest. How RW stacks up against the competitors is a separate issue.
  13. Tami, I've used System Restore on several occasion and never had the problem you describe, possibly because my files are on a separate physical disc rather than a partition on the "C" drive. The restore process should not affect data files. I have read that documents saved to the desktop can be lost, but that is not your situation. The XP Help & Support files describe a way to exclude drives & partitions from the restore process: "To exclude a non-system drive or partition Open System Properties. Ensure that the Turn off System Restore check box is cleared. Under Drive settings, click the non-system drive or partition that you want to exclude, then click Settings. Select the Turn off System Restore on this drive check box. This option is not available if you have selected a system drive or partition. Notes To open System Properties, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System. In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab. You can choose to exclude any non-system partition or drive so that System Restore does not monitor or restore it. Changes made on an excluded partition or drive are not restored during a System Restore." I also use an external hard drive for backup of my files - "paranoia strikes deep". George
  14. Rick, I'm stumped, can't get the result you describe. When I create an angular dim (any mode, any style), I am able to drag the dimension out to the side & have the arc continue. The only way I've been able to remove the internal arc is by deselecting "Arrows Inside" in the OIP. The arrows switch to the outside & the internal arc is removed. Do you get the same result with other dim tools? George
  15. Bruce asked about access to the bug list, not how to submit a bug report. I expect that the answer is no, for a variety of reasons.
  16. I just grab the text & drag, arc extends with it, no need to redraw.
  17. "The nice thing about the new coordinate entry is that all you need to do is pull the cursor in the direction you need (making sure you have the smart cursor on) and then enter the length of the data you want." This feature has been a part of "the Cad program we all hate" for many years.
  18. John, Well said. Could the hybrid 2D/3D nature of VW make it a problem to add this feature? The good news, I think this is the first response of any kind to this request. The bad news, the Wish List must be quite long by now. George
  19. This question has been raised over the years - never a response from NNA - not even: we can't do it, we don't want to do it, we don't care...
  20. Another vote here. There is a 3dconnexion forum at: http://www.3dconnexion.com/forum/ Logitech (parent company of 3dconnexion) has an interesting product that looks like the Navigator but works a little differently. NuLOOQ navigator? http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mice_pointers/design_controller/devices/407&cl=us,en George
  21. Used Search to get: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Board=7&Number=84030&Searchpage=4&Main=18340&Words=Mac+PC+File+transfer&topic=0&Search=true#Post84030 Katie's reply: Typically when sending a mac file to a PC user, the file extension is not there. A good rule of thumb for mac users who plan to work with PC users is to get in the habit of saving the filename.mcd to avoid this in the future. To open a Mac file on a PC, the PC user will need to right click on the file and add .mcd to the end of the file name. To open a PC file on a Mac, the file association will need to be written. To do this, get info on the file and set the file to open with VectorWorks. Another good rule of thumb to keep in mind is when exchanging files between Macs and PCs, compress the file (.zip or .sit) to maintain file associations. Email applications can often strip the file extension. _________________________ Katie Training Program Developer Lead Trainer Nemetschek North America katie@nemetschek.net George
  22. This is odd. If you copy & paste the wall, the fill appears in the copy but not the original. If you select the original & click on the fill in the Attributes Palette, the fill appears. It's not just a screen redraw, changing views has no affect.
  23. If you want to change the shape of the extrude (not it's height), double click on it to enter "Edit Group" mode. This will show the 2d shape that describes the extrude. Double click this object, select "Move: Vertex only" in the OIP and you can move, add or change a vertex. Click "Done" & you will see the altered extrude. George
