  1. In most programs that have this feature, the user can decide how many "viewports" are displayed. I have never noticed a performance drop with Acad, C4D or others that I have used. Rarely is the entire project displayed in all views. I haven't tried this on my new Mac yet, but my less than "state of the art" PC works just fine. gh
  2. And it's been there for a number of years with no sign of ever being added to VW!
  3. NNA's family member, Maxon provides a downloadable trial version of Cinema 4D. I suspect that it is a marketing decision rather than a technical one.
  4. I recently did a short test of VW 11.01 on Ubuntu 7.10 via Wine on an 8 year old laptop and it seemed to run OK. Winehq lists VW 2008 as working. I assume that speed might be an issue. Parallels is now available for Linux: http://www.parallels.com/products/workstation
  5. mw, I see you have an ATI card & have faced this problem for some time. So much for my theory! How did you ever narrow it down to the (partial?) solution you describe?
  6. Ray, I probably should have worded that differently. In the threads regarding screen flicker, I noticed that many of the posts were from users with various Nvidia cards. I have not had this problem with my ATI card & suggested checking Nvidia drivers as a possible cause. George
  7. Couldn't find a listing for FireGL S500, the only reference to this number was for the driver. What bus type is in the computer (AGP, PCI, PCI Express)? The slots are physically different. There are also a number of users having problems with the VW/Nvidia combo.
  8. Off the top of my head: 1. Change of texture. 2. Change of height, where it is sometimes convenient to keep the typical-height walls separate from those that have been reshaped or otherwise altered in the z direction. 3. Change of construction, assuming material-specific components/cavities aren't used. 4. New versus existing, or change of lineweight or fill. But would #'s 1,3 & 4 be possible if they were joined?
  9. Longitudes (non-parallel) - yes Latitudes (parallel) - no
  10. Don't know if VW '08 addresses this. In older versions, a 3d planar object placed over the floor edge to accept the texture.
  11. Ubuntu (Linux) forum: http://ubuntuforums.org/ GH
  12. Recently installed Ubuntu "Gutsy" on an old Dell laptop as a test before sending to be recycled. Download & install was very easy. Runs great, drivers for printer, scanner, cameras, WiFi included in the install package. Free office software, reads & writes to Mac & Windows (FAT & NTFS). Dell is now selling a desktop & laptop computer with Ubuntu installed. Maybe if others follow suit, commercial software vendors will have an incentive to support Linux.
  13. I absolutely agree. This has been discussed before. I bought Architect solely to get the Navigation Palette. I use none of the other Architect features. That cost me $500! The "bean counters" who devised this marketing strategy are probably gloating.
  14. You can create a simple Vectorscript for Offset Duplicates & Zoom Line Thickness. Offset Duplicates: SetPref(9, NOT GetPref(9)); Zoom Line Thickness: SetPref(1, NOT GetPref(1)); You can edit the right click (Context) menu with the Workspace Editor. Open the editor, select the Menu Tab, Object Context should be at the bottom of the Menus list. Expand it and you can edit the menu to suite your needs. George
  15. Called Maxon Tech Support yesterday. They say the plugin is being worked on - no date yet.
  16. It can also be done without Ungrouping. After using "True Type To Polyline" you can double click on the Group, Extrude then Exit Group and your letters will be extruded. You can extrude parts of the group to different heights as well. George
  17. There are many users here who would be glad to help you, but I think you appear to be the one in need of a little relaxation. The post above sure looked like shouting to me and starting multiple threads with the same question doesn't help either. I'd suggest giving as much detail about your set up & the problem as possible if you expect anyone to pay attention.
  18. lucylou Is the file that opens the one you initially tried to open that had others referenced? If so are the references still present. I'm assuming that VW wants to convert & save a new copy of the old file and needs to do the same with the referenced files. George
  19. You'll find it here when it is released: http://www.maxon.net/pages/download/plugins_e.html As Katie said, Maxon provides the plugin.
  20. "if NNA owns Graphisoft and therefore Archicad" NNA is a subsidiary of Nemetschek AG of Munich, Germany. I believe Graphisoft & Archicad are owned by Nemetschek AG, not NNA.
  21. David, I think the problem is related to creating a symbol and the wording of the VW dialog box. "Plan Projection Center" can be misleading. George
  22. When creating the symbol, are you selecting "Plan Projection Center"? This creates the insertion point at the center of the OBJECT, causing the symbol to appear at 0,0,0 in C4d regardless of its location in the VW drawing. If you select "Next Mouse Click" you can click at 0,0 in VW and it should maintain the offset when opened in C4D. If you place a Locus at 0,0 in VW, you'll have a point to click on. Another option is to Group your model rather than creating a symbol. The group should maintain its position relative to 0,0 when imported. George
  23. You may find it under "Legacy" in the Workspace Editor Menu list on the left.
