  1. no bother. I figured out the error of my ways.
  2. I am trying to create a new tile texture but am having difficulty with it "tiling" properly. When I compare what I am doing to a typical running bond brick wall, I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. The brick wall renders as one would expect without strange "tiling". I extracted the image to compare it to the one I made and there really isn't any difference. All settings are the same when the texture is applied but I keep getting the same wrong result. See attached for a better description.
  3. Actually, the rest of us do not have that tool in our version of Vectorworks (that I am aware of). What you have seems to work precisely the same way the Vectormove plugin does.
  4. I have found the laptop a must. If I never left my office or did work anywhere else I would use my iMac but that is not the case. I am even surprised that I can use the laptop screen without going crazy. I do plugin to a keyboard and mighty mouse at the office which for me is essential to working efficiently.
  5. thanks islandmon. that is the type of knowledge that just flies below the radar.
  6. In similar situations I usually use the extract surface tool and set it just slightly off the original surface. I guess it depends on the complexity of your shape/volume.
  7. The texture for the door either comes from the door class setting or from a specific style setting you assign in the door dialogue under "view". From what I can tell, you do not have the type of flexibility for mapping with a plug in object that you do with custom made objects. If your door is simple - just a slab - I believe your best bet is to extract the texture and revise it using photoshop. Here you can adjust the orientation and scale. This method doesn't work as well if the door has rails and stiles and a panel since you will want the texture going different directions for the separate elements. You could also model the door yourself creating the various components from extruded rectangles. You would have much greater flexibility in the oip to adjust the mapping. hope this helps
  8. Thanks Gytis. I had forgotten about that forum.
  9. Ok, not necessarily a VW issue but... For those Mac users, is there any real difference between Apple's pricey memory vs the aftermarket stuff? Apple 2gigs = $350 aftermarket = $110 Any opinions would be appreciated
  10. If you haven't tried it yet - look at the render tab on the oip. When you scroll down, you should find ways to adjust the mapping of the texture on your object. You can tweak things here including the direction of the texture.
  11. I have now gone back to an archived copy of the file and am getting the very same error message when trying to open it. I know the file was working before and after that archive. I have run disk utility in hopes it might help and have moved an renamed the file without any success. Anyone have any other suggestions I might try? thanks
  12. This is the message I am getting when trying to open a file. It says "File Damaged - It will open with as much data as possible". It then proceeds to crash the program. Unfortunately, it does the same thing with the backup file. I had gotten this message a week ago but it managed to open the file. It happened before updating to 12.5.2. The file is about 380mb.
  13. ...in any mode. 3d only on the edge - 2d anywhere (when filled).
  14. I find that 3d objects (say an extrude with solid fill) can only be picked by edge. Oddly enough, floor objects behave like 2d rectangles which means they can be dragged from anywhere - a very annoying trait when you are zoomed in and don't realize you have in fact moved it without knowing it.
  15. Also try unchecking it, and then go back and recheck it. Sometimes this works for me.
  16. You really should be able to get very decent results at as low as 150 dpi. It really depends on which rendering mode you are using, how your textures have been created and how your lighting is set up.
  17. thanks Grant. I have a photog friend that I think I can lean on for some free training!
  18. How do you prefer to setup your workspace? I am considering getting a 20 or 23" apple display to work in tandem with my notebook. I am surprised that I have gotten used to working on this 15" screen but whenever I visit an office where they are using larger monitors I realize what I am missing. So, drawing on monitor, palettes on laptop? Any insight would be appreciated.
  19. grant, can you elaborate on the depth of field technique with photoshop?
  20. thanks for the input. I had never paid enough attention to notice that I had the option of specifying operations vs time. Sometimes a good naked run through the park can do wonders for the psyche.
  21. Does everyone use this feature? I have it set at 30 min intervals but it ALWAYS pops up in the middle of an operation which seems to cancel anything I may be in the middle of. The fact that it always overrides the previous backup - instead of creating a new one - means that if I discover a mistake that I made 2 hours ago (or yesterday) I am out of luck. This isn't a critique of the software - VW can't anticipate my own stupidity. How do others use it - or what alternative methods are preferred?
  22. I would highly recommend getting a plugin called Vectormove from this website: http://www.vectorbits.com/ It is a fabulous tool and eliminates the types of problems you are having.
  23. I am completely pleased with my MM. The scroll wheel is very smooth - much more than any other I have tried.
  24. It isn't a snap setting. I can place the same symbol in a straight wall next to the curved wall and snap to it fine. I think it is another curved wall bug.
