  1. does anyone have a good resource suggestion for 3d fireplace surrounds (mantlepieces)? I have done some googling but have not found much thanks
  2. I at least had the fortune of it functioning after re-installing it. I was also able to get the "set sun position" back and functioning. I just don't know why it was removed to begin with.
  3. thats a good thought. It could get a bit hairy as this is a very large and complicated house. The other idea I am trying is to use "head on" perspectives for presentation purposes. I find most clients don't read flat drawings anyways.
  4. thanks Peter. I appreciate the time you pro's spend here at the forum. As far as I can tell, doing any sort of rendered interior elevations is not an option unless there is a way to set up a standard viewport and define a clipping plane that removes the portion of the model that should be "behind" the viewer. I did not see any description like that in the help menu.
  5. Its not the trim that is the issue. It is being completely unable to render section viewports with textured walls that have an opening in them. The texture goes crazy. A similar thread is also running in the "architect" index and the solution is using standard viewports instead of section viewports. Not exactly a convenient option but the best one until they resolve the issue with another update.
  6. Upon adding a command to my workspace, the Stack Layers tool becomes unavailable. I have to delete it and re-add for it to become available again but in the process another command (Solar angle) becomes unavailable. What am I doing wrong?
  7. I don't have any problem with my mouse wheel. I don't typically use the zoom tool from the palette. The problem is only with the trackpad and it is for line drawings. Pixelated is the best description I can give although it is not really accurate. Maybe I just need to get used to taking my mouse along!
  8. Gytis, I have about the same equipment and software as you with the exception of 1Gb. When I zoom in or out with the trackpad function (two finger scroll on pad) the lines become VERY pixilated. If I move about a bit I can get it to correct itself but not without some effort. I take it that you don't experience the same problem with your macpro?
  9. So is there any method to get around it? I have a bunch of interior elevations to present to my client and it would be great to have some of them rendered with textures to get the ideas across.
  10. Zooming creates a very distorted image when done with the trackpad. I typically have a mouse running at the office but not always when at a client meeting. Is this a bug or a settings issue?
  11. I have discovered that the problem only occurs in a section viewport and it happens regardless of the type of opening I place in the wall. The texture gets re-oriented and skewed in various directions. Does not happen in an elevation viewport and it happens to any texture I apply. Do I have something set incorrectly? I opened a blank drawing to test this and got the same results.
  12. I am using a concrete block texture in a wall that contains an arched door. The block coursing over the door disappears and is replaced with a series of arched "lines" that have the door's radius. (imagine the ripple effect of dropping a pebble in water) Needless to say, this is not quite the effect I was trying to achieve. Any suggestions on how to correct this?
  13. I have read through the posts concerning texture editing but still do not have any success. I was expecting that the editing options concerning "image color" would be such that I could manipulate the image not unlike Photoshop commands. Say I want to make a concrete block wall lighter in color or to change it to a beige color. Is there a preferred resource for thoroughly understanding texture editing and custom texture creation (i.e., Jonathon Pickup)? thanks
  14. thanks for the input. I hadn't considered the layer option. I keep forgetting about this powerful tool and the possibilities it has to offer. Luckily, we won't need 95 iterations to get the job done on this one.
  15. Thanks for the input. Yes, it is a complicated problem - too bad I didn't find something a bit more straightforward for a first project using vw. Even if I cannot use the program to its fullest, it has many graphic tools that are very appealing in this project context. by the way, any chance you know Kaisa Soini? She was a classmate of mine in grad school.
  16. I am a fairly new vw user having switched from autocad. I am working on a large residential project for which I am responsible for the development of the interiors. I will need to show my client several versions of interior elevations with extensive detail. In some cases, I will be suggesting different locations for exterior doors and windows. What working method would you experienced users recommend? I have tried modeling a space in 3d and creating viewports to annotate but then I run into situations where I am recommending that established door and window locations be changed. I would prefer to use the program for its assests instead of just using lines like autocad. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
