That was my thinking. You can paste-in-place of course, but It would be great to just click on an object (or right click) and send it to the main drawing and continue working in the group.
-
I was looking for a faster way to do it...without exiting the group and going back in.
-
Maybe this has been mentioned but I couldn't find it. I would like to be able to remove an item from a group. Let's say I group a bunch of objects, it would great if I could right-click and remove items as needed - then they would be sent back to the drawing and work could continue in the group.

VW2013 teaser...is this the best you've got...?
Ride replied to Chris D's topic in General Discussion
Well....this is a welcomed change for me. VW2012 is so bad on a macbook pro it's not usable. I've been waiting for them to address the zooming issue since 2008. Let's hope it works..... -
Vectorworks 2012 slow vector draw / re-draw on 12 core mac pro
Ride replied to peacockit's topic in General Discussion
Yes....mine behaves the same way. But this CANNOT be working as designed. This is a problem that needs to be addressed. -
I think that's the only option.....thanks all for the responses. At least I know I'm not missing something.

Thanks Kevin. You are correct that I'm working in 2D. I actually work with architectural woodwork, but thought the plan and elevation scenario might be more familiar for those offering help. I do have the "Centre on objects" selected, and this works fine for navigating on one layer. But when I switch to other layers (for me....I always have a separate layer for all the 2D sections of the millwork items that I'm draw in 3D elsewhere). I was hoping that the views of each layer could somehow work independently of each other.
-
Hmmm. I'll try to explain this a little better. Let's say I have a plan layer, and an elevations layer. Let's assume I'm working on the plan layer with the plan centered on screen. If I go to the elevations layer, and then switch back to the plan, the view remains as it was - with the plan in the center of the screen. But, if I switch to the elevations layer, and zoom in or out, or pan to another part of the drawing, when I switch back to the plan the view - it has been changed as well. Generally only showing me a blank screen whereby I have to zoom to all to get the plan back to center screen. My question was whether it's possible to not have the view change in a layer that is not active. So that when I switch back and forth and work in the different layers the view is where I left it before I switched. I hope that makes sense. I'm on VW 2011 architect w/ interiorCAD.

Mine never works either. Did anyone figure out why some don't work?

I did a search, but didn't quite find what I was after. Is it possible for VW to maintain the previous view of a layer? When I switch between layers, the last view I use is the one that is displayed. So if I change a view in one layer, when I switch back to a previous layer it uses the same view, not the view when I left the layer. Does this make sense? I find I constantly have to zoom objects, and then zoom in every time I switch layers.....a waste of time. Thanks VW 2011 SP5 Macbook Pro 2.2 i7 8 GB 1333 DDR3

Yeah it's too bad really. I've given up....back to using 2011. Not perfect, but much improved.

Vectorworks 2012 slow vector draw / re-draw on 12 core mac pro
Ride replied to peacockit's topic in General Discussion
Very frustrating....but this seems to be a problem with the MBP's. There are a few other threads about this. Try http://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=171223&page=1 I don't know that there is a definitive answer, but the video card is ofter cited as the culprit. -
I get the beach ball (on a mac) every time I switch drawings
Ride replied to dahard's topic in Architecture
Mine did it too. And it's frustrating. Between that and the laggy zooms, I've gone back to 2011. Sorry I can't be more helpful. -
Mine is a: Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.8 2.2 GHz Intel Core I7 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3 AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024MB
-
No improvement for me. Still slow and laggy just like all versions since 2009. It's the worst when something is selected, and the zooming with the mouse wheel. Man....it takes a long time to refresh. Also, when selecting multiple items I need to be very careful to select the first, wait a second for it to register, and then the second....wait...and so on. I have a fairly new macbook pro, with a decent video card but issues persist. Macbook Pro 2.2 I7 8GB DDR3 AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024MB
-
Thanks....I read through that and it seems my specs are up to the task. It just doesn't work. I've noticed this laggy performance since 2009, and on 2 computers. I was hoping someone else with similar specs was getting better performance and could maybe help point me in the right direction. As it is, I need to consciously force myself to work slower....it's tiring, and frustrating.

I'm just curious. With respect to video cards....what does it take to allow VW to run nice and snappy? No more 1-2 second delays to refresh the screen (even more if something is actually selected). Does anyone have a video card for a macbook pro that allows this? Is it possible? VW 2012 Arch SP3 Macbook Pro 2.2 I7, 8GB DDR3 AMD Radeon HD6750M 1024MB

I must be missing something. Whenever I set my precision to 0.000001, the dimensions do the same thing. I have to go and manually change the precision of the dimension after I create it. Is there a way to set the dimensions to an accuracy of 0.1, while the OIP and data bar display 0.000001?
-
Where are these settings? I don't see where I can set the display precision and the dimension precision separately..... VW2012 SP2 Macbook Pro
-
Perfect, thanks. I'll do that. Hopefully things improve a bit after the update.
-
Strange. Mine is SP1 (Build 149062). I'm in Canada....maybe it's released later here? At any rate, I'll try again if there a new SP. In the meantime, I'm happy to be back on 2011.
-
There's an SP2? When I run 'check for new software' it says I'm up to date....
-
Well....I've had enough. I've had more crashes in the last 2 days than I can count. This is counter-productive. I don't have a consistent set of events that lead up to a crash to file a bug report. I'm going back to 2011. Anyone else having this much grief? VW 2012 SP1 Macbook Pro 2.2 Intel Core I7 8GB 1333 DDR3 AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512MB

The change from 2008 to 2009 resulted in laggy performance (slow zooms, a delay before the re-zoomed imaged was refreshed, delay in picking points or dragging a window). Something in the software "engine" was revamped in the 2009 release that resulted in this performance. I've been over this many times with my software provider. According to Nemetschek, this is working as designed. In fact, there was one correspondence I saw where it was listed as a "feature". Either way, there has been no improvement since 2009 (I'm on 2012 now). 2012 is worse than 2011. I might go back. If you do some searching there are many threads on the topic. No resolve of course....but maybe company with your misery might help.
-
Ah yes...even better. Stay in snap loupe until you hit 'z' again. That would be great to choose several points close together while zoomed in.....
