  2. Thanks. I thought about that method as well. Seems arduous. For now, due to time constraints, I may just add colored in polygon to floor area to punch it out somewhat, then print plan to pdf. Much easier.
  3. How do I render a floor plan that shows all doors and windows? Rendering in plan view defaults to "top" view, not "top plan" view so I only see tops of walls.
  4. I almost lost a file! I had 2 files open simultaneously. I was toggling between them and went to close one. A warning came up, paraphrasing, "file corrupted, save in different location or file will be lost permanently". With sweat beading down my brow, I did a 'save as' to the desktop. Looked back at original file in that projects folder. Sure enough it had 0mb memory, meaning zero data. Close one. I backed up on CD and made 2 extra copies on the hard drive. Is having an off-site Apple storage area worth it?
  5. My solution may not be as sophisticated as the others, but I' currently designing a long bank of contemporary kitchen cabinets. I created what is essentially the 1/16" gap between doors and drawers. I extruded a 1/16" x 1" x X" bar. I place the 1st one on the cabinet face while viewing as orthoganol 'front view" I play with it, in elevation until happy. Then those 'lines' are true demarcations of cabinetry separations, in 3D. Past attempts at 3D cabinet boxes, door faces, etc..were too time consuming. I extrude the basic overall box, then a countertop slab, then add the lines to the boxes as described above. What does everyone think?
  6. I agree to have all furniture within the floor layer, where all of your walls, windows, doors, etc... exist. But give those items a class (e.g., 'furniture') Even the plumbing fixtures, cabinetry, appliances, stairs are on the floor layer. I then create a separate slab layer, but its Z layer elevation is below that of the floor by the same dimension as that floors thickness. Then I draw a polygon in the slabs shape desired. Then I extrude (up, positive direction) the floors thickness. This way the floor surface is equal to that of the wall layer. You can layer link these 2 layers to see if it worked and you have a true, accurate model.
  7. And to think what I will notice because I'm now on a power PC G4! I'm typically a 3 to 4 year person on each computer. How would you compare the G5 intel 2.16 ghz on the Imac 24" to, say, me getting a 3.0 ghz (2) dual core tower with separate 30" monitor?
  8. Will 3.0 ghz 2-dual core processors and 2.0gb ram, and 250 gb hardrive, etc..make a huge speed difference in rendering? From the 4 main parameters of a new Mac, processor speed, ram memory, hardrive space, and graphics card, what affects my efficiency and speed the most? I'm now on a Powermac G4 with 1.0 ghz processor and 1.75 gb ram. Thanks.

  11. I would like to create a limestone or travertine stone floor. I don't want a continuous stone surface, but one that shows grout lines indicating stone units of whatever size I want. i.e., I want 30" square stone pavers for my floor. How do I manipulate a texture to show up at a given unit size? Thanks!
