  1. Hello; I just made a custom title block for an 11 x 17 sheet layout. Everything worked according to the video tutorial (http://download2.nemetschek.net/TechTips/Custom_Title_Block/Custom_Title_Block.html) even though I am working with VW2010 and the video was for VW2008. The problem is that, when I put the custom title block on a new page, the title block appears ever so slightly out of alignment with the page border (about a millimeter low and to the right). Is it possible to alter/edit the position of a title block once it is saved. How would I do this? Marc
  2. Thank you Ray. That was easy. Marc
  3. Hello; There is supposed to be a Scale Bar tool in the Dims/Notes tool set, but it is not there in my version. Any idea why it is not there? Can I add it somehow? Marc Working with VW 2010 (Landmark Workspace) on a Mac OS 10.6.3
  4. I would like to make an 8 1/2 x 11 booklet for a client that shows the plants that are used in the design. A photo image and some simple text (name, flower color, etc) would be helpful. Can the VW Plant Database be used to export such a file automatically? Marc
  5. Thank you michaelk I couldn't find a "closed" box in the OIP. What is that? I did find out part of my problem though. I was using the Polyline Tool with the Fill Style set to None. If you get the closure just right with the Fill set to None the Area data will appear, but if you don't, even if you close the polyline afterward, no area data appears. If you turn on the Fill, however, area data suddenly appears. Thanks again. Marc
  6. To answer my own question, I had inadvertently switched a main Class to the "Grey" mode of visibility. I didn't realize in the Grey visibility mode, the cursor doesn't react to objects. Don't know how I did that. I was fiddling with the arrow keys to move an object around the page at the time. I wonder if I accidentally pressed another key while using the arrow keys and inadvertently toggled the Visibility mode. Is that possible? Marc
  7. I am working on a file that was initiated in VW12.5 and I am now working on it in VW2010. Suddenly most of the drawing on all layers went grey and will not respond to the cursor. It's almost like it everything is frozen in "Grey Others" layer option. All Layers and Classes are set to Show/Snap/Modify. A few random lines on certain layers respond to the cursor (can't determine any connection between them) but everything else is frozen. I shut down VW and restarted > no change. I shut down the computer and restarted > no change. What could be going wrong? Marc
  8. I drew a complex polyline shape but failed to close the ends exactly, the result of which is that, although there is perimeter data for the shape, there is no area data shown. Is it possible to close an un-closed polyline shape without redrawing the whole thing? I tried using the Connect/Combine Tool but that did not work. Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Marc
  9. This is a wish for a better 2D Plant Tool. The way VW is set up now, one needs to have a separate plant symbol for every possible plant at every possible size -- literally thousands of separate symbols. A 15' Prunus sargentii symbol cannot be used for an 8' Prunus sargentii (not on the same drawing at the same time). Likewise, a 15' Malus sylvestris sieversii symbol cannot be used for a 15' Malus sylvestris domestica, if the auto plant tag is to be used. The number of iterations of unique and separate symbols that this requires is mind-boggling! What would be ideal (in my humble view) would be to have around 15~20 generic 2D symbols that could be individually modified, after placement in the drawing, with a spread size and plant ID name. The existing 2D symbols (decid. tree, flowering tree, evergreen tree, decid shrub, evergreen shrub.... etc), in fact, are fine as they are. What would help is to have a system as follows: 1) PLACE: Place a plant (tree, shrub, grass, etc) on the drawing. 2) ADJUST: Manipulate the data such as spread as needed in the Object Info palette. This manipulated symbol can be easily repeated throughout the design process using the Pickup Mode. 3) NAME: In the Object Info palette, any plant name or ID code can be typed into the tag-name box (autofill would help guess the plant name) and whichever plant was entered would be automatically added to the master Plant Schedule. This would eliminate the need for thousands of separate symbols for every possible conceivable plant name and size. Is this not possible? Thank you. Marc
  10. Hello; There are two to four letter plant codes in the plant ID list. What do these stand for? Is there a master list to refer to? Examples as follows: AP BEUT OTM OTP PIFL SD STJA STL STM STP Thank you. Marc
  11. Hello Eric; Thank you for getting right back in touch. By changing the data through Edit > Definition, one changes the specs for ALL cases of that same symbol on the drawing. In the past (VW 12) by using the Object Info palette, one could adjust the sizes of individual plant symbols without changing all instances of that symbol at the same time. Is that no longer possible in VW 2010? If so, it seems the way VW is set up, one needs to have a separate symbol for every possible plant at every possible size -- literally thousands of separate symbols. A 15' Prunus sargentii symbol cannot be used for an 8' Prunus sargentii, and likewise, a 15' Malus sylvestris sieversii symbol cannot be used for a 15' Malus sylvestris domestica (if the auto plant tag is to be used). The number of iterations, of unique and separate symbols, that this requires is mind-boggling! What would be ideal (in my humble view) would be to have around 15~20 generic symbols (decid. tree, flowering tree, evergreen tree, decid shrub, evergreen shrub.... etc) that could be individually modified, aftrer placement in the drawing, with a spread size and plant ID name. Is this not possible? Marc
  12. Just upgraded to VW 2010 (from 12.5, big jump). When I place trees on the drawing, the height and spread data in the Object Info palette is 'gray' so I can not modify the sizes of individual plants. Used to be able to do this under VW12.5. Has there been a change in VW2010 or do I need to change a preference somewhere? Marc
  13. Thank you Mike; That was easy! Worked perfectly. Marc
  14. Thank you Mike. Could you tell me the steps to composing the arcs into a single Polyline? I can't find that in VW help. Marc
  15. Hello; I am trying to use the Duplicate Along Path tool to lay out a series of circles along an S-curve line. The S-curve is made out of two arcs drawn with the Arc Tool. The first arc faces left, the next arc faces right, the ends of the two arcs touch, making an S shape. The Duplicate Along Path tool recognizes these arcs separately so it only lays out circles along one arc at a time. If I use the Duplicate Along Path tool twice on the two arcs separately, it doesn't work out, because the circles need to have the same, precise interval spacing along the whole curve. The "splice point" between the two arcs ends up with an odd spacing. Is there a way to connect the two arcs so that the Duplicate Along Path tool recognizes them as one single line? Marc
  16. Thank you so much for clearing that up Jonathan.
  17. Hello; I am trying to export a VW 12.5 drawing with ten layers and three classes as either a DWG or DXF file to send to a colleague who works with TurboCad 15. The files I have sent him all import into his CAD program with all ten layers compressed into one layer instead of ten separate ones. Is it possible to export VW layers so they appear as separate layers in TurboCad (or AutoCad)? Or, do I need to assign a separate Class to each of my Layers so that they show up separately in the DWG/DXF? Thank you. Marc
  18. Hello islandmon; I didn't get as far as Kinkos. I exported new PDFs of my pattern test page. Those with "Export patterns at on-screen resolution" CHECKED printed fine on my Epson inkjet printer. For those with "Export patterns at on-screen resolution" UNCHECKED, the Hatches were OK but all the Patterns became simple grey tones. Not thick black lines (like the problem at Kinko's) but not the proper patterns either. Instead of the correct pattern (wavy lines or sand patterns or diagonal lines etc) with "Export patterns at on-screen resolution" UNCHECKED everything became simple halftone patterns. My guess is printing on Kinkos various large and small format printers won't be better. (I tried some tests with Quartz imaging ON and some OFF. Same result both ways. Unchecking "Export patterns at on-screen resolution" makes things worse on my office printer) All for now. Marc
  19. Thanks islandmon I will give that a try and make some print outs at Kinkos.... see what happens. I'll let you know. I can't imagine every Mac has this problem consistently (it's a major problem). I wonder what it is about my machine/software/etc that is buggy? All for now. Marc
  20. I am working on a Mac 10.4.11 with both VW 12.5 and VW 2008. They both have the same problem, which is that all Patterns inserted as Fills corrupt into thick black lines when I print on Kinko's large and small printers. 1) I made a test sheet with various boxes infilled with Patterns, Hatches (by Modify) and Hatches (by Attribute) 2) I exported those as PDFs at 300 dpi (one at 8.5" x 11" and one at 24" x 36") 3) Both PDFs look fine on screen with Adobe Reader 4) Printing 8.5 x 11 PDF on the Epson Workforce inkjet printer in my office is fine for Patterns and Hatches 5) At Kinkos, they use Windows XP and Adobe 8 to print 6) On the Kinkos BW Xerox printer, color Xerox printer, and large format plotter, both types of Hatches print well but all Patterns corrupt and become thick black lines. Any idea what is going wrong with printing Patterns? Tried turning off Quartz Imaging and remaking PDFs to no avail. All for now. Marc
  21. Thank you Island Mon That did it! Marc
  22. I am working on a Mac PowerBook, using OS 10.4.11, with VW Designer (Educational Version) 12.5.3. When I write something in a text box, and rotate it, the text will face upright or to the left, but not upsidedown or to the right. Why is this? How can I get a text box to face right? Marc
  23. Hello Spearman How do I get those other plant symbols to show up in the Place Plant tool's preferences so that I can use them? Is there a way to import them from Vectorworks 2008/Libraries/Plants/Plant Objects.vwx? Marc
  24. I am working on a Mac PowerBook, using OS 10.4.11, with VW 2008 Designer (Educational Version) I just upgraded to VW 2008 from VW 12.5.3. I was surprised to see that there are only 5 generic plant symbols offered in 2008, whereas there may have been 25 symbols offered in VW 12. Why is this? Is there a way to increase the number of plant symbols in 2008 without creating them all oneself? Marc
  25. I am working on a Mac PowerBook, using OS 10.4.11, with VW Designer (Educational Version) 12.5.3 When I export to DWG a VW drawing I have made with multiple layers, with DXF layers set to export as classes, and then reimport that DWG file into VW, all the layers end up squeezed into one class and one layer. Any ideas why? Why aren't they separate? If I try exporting DXF layers to layers, it takes a LONG time to export and I simply couldn't reimport the file into VW. It was taking WAY too long. Again, any idea why? Marc
