  1. I just called 410 / 290-5114 and ask to speak to my sells rep Christin and was transfered to on the spot her and we talked about upgrading. In the past when I had troble reinstalling VW from a bad disc my rep had new CDs in my hand the next day, she is the only name and voice that I know at Nemetschek so I call her first and let her tranfer me to to the Techies.

    Give it another try.

  2. Israel, what version of VW are you using?

There could be some over-lapping of your VPs (so check the crop)

Try selecting the two visible VPs and move them off the sheet to see if VP #3 can be selected w/o affect the other 2.

Or recreating the sheet-layer and bring the VPs again or copy VP # 1 to get the ohter 2 and set the view using the OIP

  3. BHunter, first VW is a 32 bit App. I think. When I first started using VW it was I was running XP Pro and now I am running Vista HP and the only time I have a problems is when I move a file from my laptop to my desktop. Some of the problems that you are experiencing may have more to with things like video cards, fonts and 12.5.3 than your OS. If you seach through this forum you will get a sense of the prolems and solutions that others have had on both the Mac and Windows platforms.

    Try going back to 12.5

  4. Rob, I have a Turn Around template that I got from the traffic dept. in San Leandro for use on a corner lot (you know the ol' dual front setbacks situation) I also seem to remmember seeing them on the web somewhere. But in the meantime check your email.

  5. Speaking of VW and Japan, I heard on one of the Podcad Podcast from VectorTasks that VW was or is becoming the top seller in that country probably due to it's flexibility.

  6. Ahhhh! Peter thank you man for another GREAT tip about the very skinny wall component, no more using the 2d polygon tool to draw around an object. I am starting to use walls to repesent various objects like counter tops, conc. slabs/porches or anything that I am going to hatch. Thanks again.

When is your Tips-Tricks and Techniques manual coming out?

  7. Jeffery,

What I was trying to get at was a simple answer/response to defjef's post and in the speed of the moment I put forth two comparative examples that I thought would point to scope and range of the two programs. You offered Ellicott Heights as an exmaple to support your point of view and I offerd the Freedom Tower.

Now get at this on my Mac I have Acrhicad and Powercad w/ Wild Tools and stack of books and stuff because I don't use it that much, on my PC I have autocad, ADT, Revit, TurboCad and VectorWorks. In my line of work I support Architects,Designers,Engineers and Land Surveyors and now that I am getting to be pretty good using VW I have found that I can do a good job and deliver a fast turn around using VW and letting my clients think that I am some kind of AutoCad stud is part of the fun. For my own personal clients it's straight VectorWorks and no chaser.

Oh and once I learn to be really good using VW's DTM here in the hilly Oakland Ca area I will then be able afford season tickets to the Raiders, Niners, A's, Gaints, Warriors, Sharks, SaberCats and gasoline. What I am trying to get at by saying all this is that VectorWorks is my money making Ace In the Hole.

  8. Revit is Autodesk's BIM software. (REVise InstanTly)

Very Big and Very Powerful and built on Acad's platform which is also used by ADT and Land Desktop (the AutoCad family is BIG) in my area most Designers, Architects, Contractors, Engineers and Land Surveyors use an Autodesk product

Designing a house or good size commercial project use VW

Designing a 30 story office or six lane bridge use Revit

    You are Welcome

  9. You make vista run VectorWorks in XP mode by:

Selecting the Help and Support function

    Select Table of Contents

    Select Programs, Tools And Games

Select Working with programs and tools

    Select Program compatibility

RUN the Start the Program Compatibility Wizard

I hope that this helps you Daniele G.

P.S. list your Hardware/Software parameters by making a signature like the one here in the lower left corner because some hiccups are hardware/software/version specific.

  10. I have the following manuals/tutorials;

    VW Core Concepts

VW Architect 1&2 video by Resolve

    VW Architect Training Manual

    VW Step by Step

    And then I have:

VW Essentials manual by Jonathan Pickup

VW Architect manual by Jonathan Pickup

These books with tutorial video clips get right to the point.

by following instructions/videos in the Essentials manual I was modeling in 3d by page 35.

My Architect manual is nicely tabbed and ready, while working on a tricky roof I put CD into laptop and watch the video as I worked on my desktop.

To me they are the best.
