  1. Hello all, I'm running a PC with windows XP, 32 bit and am considering converting to XP 64 bit, converting to windows 7 64bit, and/or purchasing a newer PC (and no, I'm not considering an apple). Does anyone have any experience with this upgrade? If so, what kind of performance improvement did you see? Thanks Mike Borean Murphys, CA
  2. I'm working on a not too complex roof, but VW keeps giving me the message "Could not create roof, the house drawing is too complex to compute roof". I am trying to make the polygon simple enough for VW and then create roof faces, but it is a real pain and time consumeing. Anyone else have this problem with v2011?
  3. Does anyone know of v2011 will have the ability to do round windows? If not, I will need to purchase WinDoor. I have a client who wants an underground house modeled after the Hobbit house from Lord of the Rings. Not a straight line in the place. What Fun.
  4. Hey! Something I know how to fix!! After you select the sheets to export select "Rasterize text" in the Export PDF window. This one drove me nuts until the good folks at tech support showed me the simple answer. Good luck.
  5. Hello, I have several isometric view viewports of a house I am working on. When I go to "edit annotations" to add some linework, the viewport reverts to wire frame from hidden line. Any ideas how to keep it in hidden line mode during editing? Thanks Mike Borean
  6. I have a gable wall which I fit to roof. High up in the wall in inserted a cased window opening that I wanted to represent a gable end vent. In top/plan view, this gable vent opening shows up. I played with the settings trying to make it dissapear. Unable to figure it out, I cheated. The opening settings were adjsted to make the lines very narrow. A rectangle was drawn over the opening in the wall class and then this rectangle was filled with the same hatch as the wall. Its not that I have a problem with cheating, just looking for an easier way. Any ideas?
  7. Two great solutions. Thanks a million (or at least a free beer).
  8. I am creating a model of a house foundation. I have the concrete foundation walls and the 2x6 pony walls on the same layer, but stacked on top of each other. When I attempt to join the walls, VW gets all goofy and doesn't select the correct wall. I found a cheap solution in that I separated the walls vertically by 0.1". I am assuming that VW wants to join walls that are on the same layer, no matter if they are lined up vertically. Or am I missing something basic. Again. Thanks in advance.
  9. Mike M. Thanks for the tip. Being a lazy sort, or at least someone who doesn't like extra steps, can I set sketch to render in hidden line? Adjusting hidden line to a sketch rendering is pretty cool, but I just don't want to adjust hidden line each time. Thanks again,
  10. Hello all. I'm wondering if you can use the "sketch" rendering with hidden line. The answer may be staring me in the face, but I cannot find it. Thanks in advance.
  11. Hello all, Is it possible to import autocad symbols? A lot of manufacturers offer 3d symbols of their products in autocad format only. Additionally, are there more 3rd party folks who offer vectorworks symbols other than what is listed on the VW website? Thanks in advance. MB
  12. Hello all, Question: Is it possible to have an object with different attributes in different viewports. I want a transparent roof for an illustration and for the site plan, and, I want the same roof to have a solid fill for the elevation drawings. And another thing. Let me know if you have a better way to do this: I have a set of tall walls that enclose a stairway tower that I need to show up on the first and second floor plans. My rookie work around was to put these walls on layer Mod-flr1A which has the same Z values as Mod-flr1. I was then to show these walls on both the first and second floor plan viewports. Is there an easier way, or all of you thinking "duh!".
  13. Thanks for the tip. However, when I select more than one door or window, the "settings" button is greyed out. Pretty cool way to select multiple objects however. Or, am I missing something?
  14. I'm hoping that there is a way to adjust the trim settings on windows/doors for multiple openings. I find myself adjusting the settings of each opening individually. I'm sure there is an easier way. ' Thanks in advance.
  15. Thanks for the work around! I will try it. Things that I will test: I'm too deep into a project to change the dim' standards, so I will create the property line in a new document and attempt to import it into my current project. Change the dim standards, create the property drawing, change the standards back and hope that the rest of my drawings are unscathed. Its comforting to see that some of my issues aren't due to my inexperience. Thanks again for all the help.
  16. Awesome! Thanks for the tip. I'll try it in the morning. I'm curious though, won't that adjust all the drawings in the document? Thanks again.
  17. Hello, Newbie here again. How do we format the dimension in the property line tool. My current project is showing feet and decimal inches. I would like to show decimal feet. For Example: my drawing shows 129'11.28" and I would prefer 129.94'. I've searched the kbase and the forums with no luck. Thanks in advance
  18. Hello all, Newbie here working on the tutorials. In a concept drawing exercised, my space labels are too large. I have attempted to re size/format them with no luck. I have attempted to edit the Space Tag symbol, but the Edit Symbol window is empty. Probably a ridiculously simple solution, but I can't find it. Little help here! Thanks
