When the position is selected, change the size of the font in the text menu
-
I have just noticed an issue with dimensions in viewports. My custom (coming from hand drafting and being left handed) was that for vertical dimensions I would run the text oriented to the left side of the page so that in VW, I would flip the text on those dimensions. Now when I then put a drawing with flipped dimension text into a viewport, those dimensions unflip and read from the right side of the page. If I dimension in the annotations and flip the text, they stay flipped.

Another thing to try is to do the label legend in the color.

get my instruments to have class colours
Tom Grabowski replied to E Westerberg's topic in Entertainment
I get around the inability to change the color of a lighting symbol by have different color label legends. -
I would also be interested in solutions to this problem as well. I have all four sides of a rectangular grid as different positions but at the corners sometimes fixtures hung on the bottom or top position will get assigned to the side position.

It is also in the help file but the video had some tricks and better explanation on how to do it.

Recently I got an email with a link to a video of step by step instructions how to do a custom title block. I watched it but now that I am ready to do one, I cannot find the link or locate it on the web site. Any body know where it is or can send the link? Thanks.

Dongle/Serial # issues on a neww 2008 install
Tom Grabowski replied to Tom Grabowski's question in Troubleshooting
Problem solved. I got two stand alone versions and I was using the serial number from the other stand alone. I did not realize that the last 6 digits were the same from version to version. Had I used the other serial number every thing would have been fine. Thanks for the help on the phone. -

Dongle/Serial # issues on a neww 2008 install
Tom Grabowski replied to Tom Grabowski's question in Troubleshooting
I did not get new dongles with this upgrade. I was told the previous dongles would work. Again when the Serial number window opens with the new 2008 serial number already in the left window and when I go to "add" a serial # the message is that the serial # will end with the last digits from my 12.5 version. If I enter that serial # the message is that # is not a valid serial # -
I just received 2008 (15 seat lab and 2 stand alone)and installed one of the stand alone on my laptop. I did the install of 2008 with the "B" serial Number and then the dongle driver. When I go to start up 2008, I get the message "A VectorWorks dongle has been found but it does not match the one specified by your serial number, You will now be given the opportunity to enter a new serial number" It then opens up the Serial Number window with the new 2008 serial number I entered at the installation highlighted in the serial number window. Clicking on the add button gives me a message the the serial number for your dongle will end in the numbers from my 12.5 version of VW. It will not accept the 12.5 #. I am using the dongle that I have had for the last gseveral versions of the program. What do I need to do. Thanks

Yes. The flip text command in the OIP.
-
The new chain dimension command no longer has the flip dimension option. I found it useful on occasion. It is still there on the regular dimensions.

I color code by having different label legend colors

Turns out the problem was that Windows did not have a default browser assigned. Now that it does, help will run even though VW is not on the primary hard drive.

The folder for help was not changed from the installation. It is located on the E drive in a folder called "Vectorworks 12.0.0". It was not moved there from another location, it was installed there. The help command did work previously after I upgraded from 11. Tom

I am having a problem with the help in VectorWorks. When I click on the VectorWorks help command in the menu, I get an error message that says ?An error has occurred while opening the help system. Make sure the ?VWHelp? folder is in the same folder as the application.? When I go to the WVHelp folder (which is in the same folder as the application) and click in the ?index.htm? file, the browser (Firefox) opens with VW help. I know it had worked previously from the program. Running VW 12.0.1 Windows XP

As per Mike M Oz's suggestion, I put the stage floor in to the same layer as the set and now it will render. Will the program only render one layer at a time? Tom

I have been having a reoccurring problem with rendering parts of some of my sets. I have been using a polyline to draw the rather complex outline of my stage and then extruding a little bit (.05?) so that I can give it a fill and a texture. It is in its own layer and class and is then locked to prevent if from being moved. I put the set pieces on top of this in different layers (all in the same scale) and classes with fills and textures. It works in wireframe but when I try to render it with any of the Renderworks commands, I get a number of different results. The most consistent is that I will get the stage floor to render with no set and then it disappears from the screen and then it renders again but this time I get the set rendered with no floor. I also had the floor get stuck in a rendered view even when the wireframe view is checked. I have tried various aspects and ways of doing the stage floor, locked when rendering, unlocked, turning the polyline into a floor. I did get it to work successfully for one set but I am not sure what I did on that one drawing that worked. I am using 11.51 on PC but it is not machine related as it happens at both the home and office. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It worked better the next day. It seems to make a difference if the dongle is unplugged during the installation. Since the dongle just lives back there in the hub, I forgot about it. I am going to like some of the new features such as the sketch rendering option. I haven't found out yet if it can do hidden line in sketch mode.

I did another update on my home machine and there it worked fine. The difference seems to be that my office machne is not initializing the dongle after the upgrade. I am not sure and it is not clear in the upgrade instuctions whether the dongle should be plugged or unplugged during the upgrade. At home I didn't have it plugged in and after the restart that the upgrade does, I plugged in the dongle in and windows "found new hardware. I am going to try again today between classes.

I have just done the update to 11.5, twice and both times after the installation completes and the restart, when I try to open the program, I get the message that ?VectorWorks requires that up-to-date dongle drivers be installed. Please install the drivers and relaunch VectorWorks.? As part of the update I saw a box that the drivers were being installed. The dongle is lit. The driver is listed as file version 1.11 for akscoinst.dll, 4.10 for akshasp.sys and 3.33 for hardlock.sys. I will be going back to the backup copy of 11.0.1. Thanks. Windows XP

I tried asking this on 2/18/2004 (See "instruments in color") . I couldn't get the solution to work (limited amount of time to play) so I went with a label legend in color.

Open the worksheet, Click on the worksheet menu arrow (right under the check and X in the upper left corner), chose "Preferences", and deselect the "Show Tabs" button under Display. That removes the Headers. For more info see page 111 in the manual.
