So far it only seems to be one file. I created the file using VW 8.5.2 and I tried and opened the file once in VW 9 and when I tried to open it again, I got the same message. Once I couldn't open it in VW 9.0.1, I tried to reopen the file in VW 8.5.2 and I received the same error message. Since you opened the file in 9.01 It converted it to a v9 version of the file and should have defaulted to using a new name. You might be able to try re-opening the original 8.52 file if it still exists. VW 8.52 won't be able to open the v9 version of the file which may be why you're seeing the error there too. It sounds like this file is corrupted in some way. If you could e-mail it to me I'll see if we can open it here. I would also suggest that you run some of the system disk utilities like chkdsk, scandisk, defrag, and antivirus software to make sure that this isn't a sign that a hard disk is going bad or that a virus or worm has infected your machine. ------------------ -- Kevin Moore --------------------- Product Manager VectorWorks SpotLight ---------------------

Can you give me some more details about your platform, O/S, machine configuration, VW version, etc? Are you double clicking on the file in the O/S or are you opening it from open command in VectorWorks? Is is just the one file or is it a bunch of files? Recent changes to your system? (new software, hardware, etc)What is the reported size of the file in the system? All of these things could be contributing to or causing a problem. I'll need some more info to diagnose cause of your problem. TIA "Doctor, it hurts when I go like this." I guess I could use a user defined field to allocat the extra channel and colour but it is worth noting as a problem that needs to addressed. The same seems to happen with the imperial symbols. Thanks In order to work with these as multicircuit units you'll need to look to the cyc parts folder or strip parts folder in the strand library and insert each of the component pieces of the unit. (one for each circuit) Once you've done this you can then convert these to a multicircuit unit which will then behave as a single multicircuit unit but will allow you to enter three or four or whatever sets of information. There is a brief description of this process on page 4-8 of the SpotLight User's Guide. Currently there isn't a good way to get from the groups you're getting from autocad to symbols / instruments in SpotLight. If the groups have record information attached your best bet may be to export the data out to a text file and use an external program like excel or Lightwright to massage the data a bit to include a field for the symbol name. Once you have the symbol names filled out for the instruments create symbols in SpotLight from one of the groups. (i.e. create a pc2k symbol and enter pc2k as the symbol name for all those instruments.) You can then import the data file into a basically empty file or into an empty layer in the file. This will give you instrument objects with symbols and data attached and you'll just have to drag them into place on the plot where they belong. I think this process could be made a little bit easier if you wanted to delve into the world of VectorScript a little bit. I'll add this as a wishlist item for SpotLight. ------------------ -- Kevin Moore --------------------- Product Manager VectorWorks SpotLight ---------------------

Was it somethnig that was changed in 9.0? (Still waiting on UPS for the upgrade). Thanks This column can be turned off under the Worksheet preferences. Click the little downward pointing arrow button in a worksheet and choose Worksheet preferences. Turn off the option to "show tabs" and the row and column headers won't be printed out with your paperwork. If I set the print parameters in the HP print dialogue to Post Script only, it just prints the text. You might try running with as few extensions as possible to see if that works. At one point I had a subtle extensions conflict of some sort that made my mac unstable and it took me forever to look at my extensions because all of the extensions seemed to work fine. Each unit on the plot was selected. Probly a stupid mistake, but I have tried a few things and still have been having trouble. . It may be that you didn't get the external ID field and UID Field matched up when you first imported data into Lightwright. You can view the external ID field in LW by adding that as a column in the worksheet view. If these values are blank then the UID from SpotLight didn't make it into Lightwright. If you embed the worksheet in the drawing, this column doesn't show but then you lose the ability to print it in pages. The row height is VectorWorks worksheets is automatically determined by the font sizes present in the row. If you want more space in a row you can add a column to the worksheet and select a cell in the row you wish to enlarge. Change the font size for this cell, and the entire row will grow. You can also select the entire column to resize all of the row heights. You can then shrink this new column down to zero column width so that it won't appear on either the drawing or when you print. 10. The problem with inserting the Source 4 symbols from the object browser is the result of a bug in the object browser on windows. The degree sybmol in the name of the symbol is preventing it from working. Rename the symbols and they should insert just fine. This has been buglisted and will be addressed in a future release.
  11. quote: Originally posted by litemike: i have spotlight 8.5.2, is anyone else out there having a problem with auto-renumbing, it's not doing it what so ever. This was a bug in the lighting position object in SpotLight 8.52. When auto-numbering it would always number from left to right no matter what sorting direction was chosen from the list. This has been adressed in SpotLight 9.01. Any files you have already created in 8.52 will be corrected when you open them in 9.01 HTH Kevin Moore --------------------- Product Manager VectorWorks SpotLight ---------------------
  12. quote: Originally posted by ArenaLights: We just upgraded to version 9.0 and have run into a problem with the object browser and ETC symbols specificly. <SNIP> We tried to use various symbols from various libraries and have run into the problem continuously. We also tried it in the older version and did not have the problem. Please Help Thank You :-) I was able to duplicate your problem with the ETC library in SpotLight 9.01 for Windows, but strangely enough couldn't duplicate the problem on the Mac. I don't know of anything special or fancy about that library that should cause it to fail to be inserted from the object browser. I'll look at the ETC library and see if there is something that can be changed to make this work. In the meantime inserting these symbols from the resources palette as either instruments or simple symbols seems to work fine. Can you describe your migration process a little further for me. Did you start with the theatre lighting toolkit under VW 8.52? Did you use the SpotLight 8.52 menu command to convert a plot from 8.52 or did you use another method? Did your labels transistion correctly from VW 8.52 to SpotLight 8.52? Does merely opening your SpotLight 8.52 file in SpotLight 9.01 cause your labels to shift? Do you know if your user origin has been moved at some point? I'm not trying to pick on you with these questions I 'm just trying to see where the error was introduced into the process so that we can fix it. It is prefectly reasonable to expect the information to move forward without error and certainly without corruption. If you could also e-mail me all three of your files (VW 8.52, SpotLight 8.52, SpotLight 9.01) so that I can do some testing It would greatly speed up discovery of any underlying problems. When I do, the summary doesn't show the instruments counted. Any ideas? I'm sure it's a small thing I've overlooked. Any Ideas? Thanks... Dave Make sure that your instruments have "House Left Parapit" filled out in their position fields. If you select the instruments you wish to assign and the position to assign them to, the assign to position command will automatically assign the selected instruments to the selected position. If you don't have a lighting position as part of the selection then you will be asked to enter a position name. If the name you type doesn't exactly match the name you entered for the lighting position then the position summary will not find any instruments on the lighting position. The theatre seating tool is fairly easy to use. Draw an arc that you want to place seats on. Place two locus points on this arc to define the ends of the row of seats. Now run the theatre seating tool. You should see a vectorscript message bar that will prompt you to do the following. 1) Select the arc you wish to draw seats on and then press enter. 2) Select the locus point for the counter clockwise end of the row of seats and press enter. 3) Select the locus point for the clockwise end of the row of seats and press enter. 4) you will then be asked if you want to create seats based on this data. Click yes and the seats will be drawn and the chair widths displayed for each seat. You can cancel the command at any point by pressing the spacebar. HTH Kevin Moore Product Manager Nemetschek N.A.

  20. quote: Originally posted by EHS: Why is it that instrument lables rarely fall in the correct position in relation to the instrument symbol? I understand that this has to do with the layer scale, but how can I correct this? I have found it very easy for LW3 to rearrange incoming data, but the export to VW8 file never seems to be in the right format for VW8 to read correctly.
