  1. If I try exporting to PDF using the built in export option (or using a third party PDF printer driver), our renderings come out blank. All that is exported is the title block, the rendering itself is completely missing.

The same problem occurs when attempting to print to our HP Designjet 800 - nothing but the title is printed.

    Turning off GDI/Aliasing doesn't help.

    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Edit: It appears I can export very simple stuff using Final Quality Renderworks to PDF without hassle, it's just the more complicated drawings that don't play well - could it be RAM related?

  2. Thanks for the help...

I tried copying the entire contents to my hard drive, same problem.

After speaking with tech support we managed to get it installed and working, although the installation still hung during Common3.zip and has missed a lot of libraries etc. Trying to manually add them now, no idea what exactly i've missed - suppose i'll find out during use.

Downloaded SP3, followed the instructions to the letter (ie using "extract all files" instead of manually dragging them out of the zip), and that too produces bad CRC checks - can't even begin installing it. I've tried using WinZip, and the built in Zip utility on more than one computer and they all result in bad CRCs... Surely it's something wrong with the source files?

    How strange.

    Update:

Used 7-zip to force extract the zipped files, and tried installing the update anyway. Update went through with only one hitch - Renderworks.dll

    Program loads and runs fine.

I'd like to know the cause of all this, as the boss will be quite against replacing AutoCAD in the office if Nemetschek is this unprofessional.

  3. Bought VW2008 earlier in the week and it arrived today. Tried installing it many times, each time failing during extraction of Common3.zip. Error reads:-

    Error extracting: Extras/Samples/etc etc

Never hangs on the exact same file, but always seems to be common3.zip.

Does anyone happen to know a way to fix this? I tried calling tech support but was on hold for over 30 minutes.

  4. Hi Katie,

Yes, we have been a Minicad/Vectorworks-only company since MC6, and thus have a huge collection of Minicad files consisting of many different version types. My point being, whenever we do work for a Client whose drawings were done back in the MC6 days, we have to load up Classic, Vectorworks 8, import, save, then finally load Vectorworks 12.

I realise certain aspects of these drawings may not be exported, but to at least be able to import lines (as most of our MC6 drawings were purely constructed of that) would be a great time saver.

I realise it's not really a big issue, and I wouldn't be surprised if we were entirely alone in this boat, but all the same it'd be nice to be able to import mc6 from 12.

  5. Whilst I haven't seen any places to pick up extra colour palettes, it is entirely possible to Import a set.

If you have any old drawings that contain a palette you're happier with, you can obviously set that as the default.

Do note the RGB and HSV Blend buttons, selecting a group of colours and clicking said buttons is a nice easy way to get a quick set done.

Alternatively, if you have some time spare, you could quickly run through the colours, picking standard ones out of the OS X palette system.

I would offer to do you a custom palette, but i've no idea what you'd want.

  6. Hi BNM,

For V11 Drawings, simply open your V12 drawing, and choose File - Export - Vectorworks 11.

On a side note, I find it a bit annoying that V12 can't export at anything lower than V9, nor import drawings earlier than V8. This forces us into keeping multiple copies of Vectorworks and being forced into using Classic at times. Tut! :-)

For rasterizing prints, go to File - Print, pull down the Vectorworks option, and choose Rasterize Print Output.

This option is not listed at all should you be using the Quartz Imaging display option within Preferences, along with a few other options such as 'Disable driver text rotation', 'Enable special processing...', and 'Print Postscript only' options.

Updating to v12.0.1 is available from this page: http://nemetschek.net/downloads/index.php

  7. Hi BNM.

Yes, our office experiences this exact same problem since upgrading to VectorWorks 12. Some computers are on 10.4.3, others 10.4.6, others now 10.4.7, the problem occurs on all.

It's also not printer specific, as it occurs on the following printers:

    HP DesignJet 800PS

    Minolta C250

    Canon S4500

    HP OfficeJet series

Ticking the 'Print patterns at on-screen resolutions' checkbox within your Print Options drop-menu does indeed work in some cases. Not all though, I assume it depends on the layer scale.

Really not impressive - devs, what has changed in this aspect since v11?

I ought note that i'm speaking purely about patterns printing wrong, not about the other problems you describe.
