Hi when i customise windows, they do not show up in hidden line rendering in the elevations? its like they aren't cutting through the wall correctly? They are there in wireframe and are definitly "in the wall". Any ideas????? (ps its been happening for a while and NOT a recent thing. am just fed up of it now!)

No design layer view ports being used.

Hi we have recently upgraded to SP3 on both our computers and noticed that in certain files if you switch between layers/design layers or sheet layers and back again certain classes that were turned off, re-appear. In other words if you leave a design layer and go back to it, a particular class keeps re-appearing but it says its turned off. Only way to sort it is by turning the class on and off again but this is now driving me insane! (i did notice this a loooong time ago on a particular project where the same thing was happening but for lights reappearing). I thought it was a bug in this particular file until a collegue said the same for a different file/project. ANy ideas.... Its reeeeeeaaaaaallllly annoying me!

Hi I used to get this quite a lot especially as i have to save my file across to the main computer not had it for a while though. best to do a 'save as' and rename it.

I have just had this happen to me again... it must be some sort of bug because Don is right, if you restart VW it re-appears. A real pain to have to keep closing it down and re-opening again though. Any solutions in SP3??? not updated to it yet.

I am trying to model a site and am having real trouble creating a rotated floor. i have a site that has a large ditch in it (aka a dell) the bottom of the ditch floor is 1500mm below the normal ground floor which i can do no probs. however i want to rotate the 'floor' apx 45 degrees so that it is effectively a slope/hill down to the ditch. in section it will be a floor at GFL, slope at 45 degrees down to a floor 1500mm below the GFL. hope this makes sense. I know you can do rotate 3d but i cant work out which out of the XYZ IJK plane to rotate it on!!! I have tried all of them and it doesnt seem to work! All help greatly appreciated )

Hi Ive never bothered with the referencing lower and upper floors on the stair tool. I tend to put the stair on the lower floor and specify the height distance. then I create a duplicate of the stair and put it on the upper floor and put it on a separate class called "Plan Only" and simply turn the class off when looking at it in 3d/section but leave it on when looking in plan. Probably not the way your supposed to do it but it works fine for me!!

yes height was assigned to it. it was weird as you could select it in 3d view and it looked like a 3d wall (apx 2.2m high) seems like a bug of some sort, but don't know where it came from!

Thanks. will ask them to upgrade their version. However it does seem strange that all the other files i sent were fine! and yes, we can see them at our end!

Note Im on VW 2008 not 12.5 as my signature says!!

Hi. Ive just noticed one of my walls has dissappeared when i look at it in 3d view. its there in plan and i can select it but in section VP and 3D view, open GL its missing! seems like a bug. anyone else have problems like this? I've found previously to just delete it and do it again, however I do worry that there could be an underlying issue??

have just had a response from a client saying he can't see anything on one of the pdf's we sent him. Sent him 4 or 5 separate pdf's and he's just sent me an image of what he can see on this particular pdf and there is our title block but no drawing. i believe all the others are ok though. could this be a VW problem or Acrobat???

Hi, im new to the world of layer linking... can you unlink a layer from a layer link??!!! (read carefully!) ie... i have a model of a house created on different layers and ive created a layer link so i can see my house in 3d and zoom round it. however i have just designed a new roof on a new layer and i want to "turn off" the existing roof layer from the layer link so you can see my new roof.... or do i have to create a whole new layer link (which, lets face it is hardly time consuming, but seems a bit silly)! hmm...

Hi, simple question.... can you make a polygon made up of a combination of straight lines AND curves? going back to my AutoCAD days i remember i can start the polyline/polygon and then hit "a" key and it enables me to make an arc with my next click. i am tracing round a detail and i need it to be hatched so it needs to be a polygon. any ideas? thanks!

Has anyone else notcied walls in VW2008 sp2 have started to act a little strange? they suddenly seem to automattically join to each other when you drag one onto another. this is fine, until you DONT want them to do it! have tried clicking the "enable connected walls mode" on and off as well as the "wall insertion mode". any ideas anyone? Thanks!

Ok thanks. Any idea on how to create layer link? Ive just checked the help and i cant find the 'create layer link' button undo View menu!! not a good start!

Is there a way of viewing all the layers/floors of a model (ie a house) at the same time without creating a viewport? I am trying to find a way to export our vectorworks model into sktech up so that we can do fly-round movies. However as when you export even into autocad all the layers end up on top of each other instead of at their correct height. ie ground floor, then first floor etc. Im sure when i was learning vectorworks there was a way like linking the layers or something? I cant remember what its called therefore i cant search for it in help/manuals! any suggestions in the best way to set up 3d models is most appreciated too! many thanks )

Hi Is it something to do with your sill? i notice that when you click include sill it draws one all the way round the outside of the window. Dont tend to put in sills myself, just draw them on in the annotations after as its quicker than fiddling about with all the parameters. could be it???

This happens to me quite often! its like there is a big in the wall? like you say you have to re-draw the whole wall again which is obviously really frustrating and more importantly time consuming. Any vectorworks solution would be most appreciated!

I have had a fairly similar problem however i dont save a separate file but over ride the existing one. i am also saving across to the main computer via a network. i thought it was something to do with the file size and my (slow) computer struggling to send my info across to the network but im not entirely sure how it all works. i do know that i have to re-name the file (as in a save-as) and then all is fine. next time it happens i will post exactly what it says.

hi we've had a similar issue to this... although it seemed to be more like a bug as it only happened a few random times so im not sure cathoderay whether it is a consistant problem or a one off? unfortunatly we were never able to find a solution, but had to delete the wall and start again as it wouldn't even let you simply delete the door / window.
