    Sun Study

Hi. I am trying to create a sun study to show the sun paths throughout the day on my model. i have always done this in SketchUp before, but was hoping to stick to VW this time. I have followed the 'help' topic but it doesnt work, and doesn't make sense to me! Have also tried to find other threads on the forum but was unable to. Any help, most appreciated.
  2. Ive submitted a report to CU about it, if you mean for me to post a file, then i can do that, but whenever i go to, the problem isn't there!!!
  3. Pat, 1 yes 2 No 3 not viewing it in a view port but in the model, so its not a class visibility issue, nor a VP issue 4 it varies from wall to wall and happend at 3 different times to 3 different walls! Benson, I am in VW 2008 still and its happening to "new" drawings as well as older ones. again, its happend quite a few times, at first i thought it was a one off, dodgy object so just deleted and started again... but 6months on its still happening and am fed up of deleting walls!!! and no, im not planning on upgrading to 2009 when 2008 has never been right! thanks though!!!!! )
  4. you're right, it does seem like a bug, but i cant make it happen! its not a consistant thing. its so random!
  5. have just been chatting with mike m oz and he suggested that, i dont think that is the problem, the origin seems to be at the center of the drawing.
  6. Update.... and yes, ive just closed VW and re-opened it and the wall has reappeared.... hmmmmm
  7. Hi, This has happened YET again so ive attached 2 images of the same drawing, one is wireframe showing the wall and the other is Open GL showing the wall dissapeared. Note the wall also dissapears in hidden line, and in my elevation view. Please please please can this get sorted? Its a right Pain!!!! many thanks!!!! Lucylou
  8. oh, forgot to add, that after re-reading these posts, i shut VW down and reopened and it did re-appear, but im not planning on doing that everytime, especially when im working on up to 3 files at once, so have to keep closing them all down and re-opening them again! efficient working? i think not!
  9. this same problem has happened to me about three times in the past hour or so! i am on a new computer, so have recenetly re-loaded VW and other programmes. once the wall had disappeared, i re-drew it and updated the VP and it was there, then i had to join my new walll into an existing wall and as soon as i updated it, it disappeared for the 3rd time! please please please can someone sort this!!! soooooooooo frustrating!
  10. Great, thanks pat that makes more sense! much appreciated! Lucylou
  11. Hi I have just got a new computer at work and have re-installed all programs etc. I have noticed that when i first open up VW a pop up says the following.... One or more VW file types are not associated with this copy of VW. Do you want to correct this? Yes, associate all VW file types with this copy of VW or No, leave all current VW file associations in place. which one am i supposed to click?
  12. Hi. Can anyone give a bit of advice on the best graphics card for vectorworks? what with all the screen flickering thing still going on and some peoples advice has been to do with the graphics card. we are planning on buying a new computer with the following graphics card... 256MB nVidia NVS 290 what do you think???? any comments greatfully receievd
  13. does anyone know if Vectorworks are planning to make this possible? it would be VERY handy to be able to export our sheet layers (plans and elevations/sections) into dwg so that our structural engineers can use them without getting every single thing in the design layer. I could see it being fairly time consuming to convert each viewport to lines and then export those to dwg. cheers.
  14. I was just wondering if anyone has looked into this problem or had a similar issue recently? it has just happened again to one of our clients, i cant see how it is down to them not having the latest version of Adobe Reader as why can they see some of the drawings and not others? any help much appreciated. ps have just asked client to confirm what version they have and asked them to upgrade if not. will keep you posted...
  15. I have noticed a similar thing happens when i go into my drawing border on my sheet layer and alter something (scale, text etc) it makes ALL the viewports need updating even though whatever i have changed in the drawing border, it has NO affect on the viewports. Any ideas? as this is very frustrating and really time consuming. Cheers.
  16. Right, have just tried design layer viewport for the first time and seems to be the answer... although... when i was playing around, turning layers on and off in the viewport, it didnt seem to remove them. hmph...
  17. must admit, havent attempted design layer viewports yet... but doesnt that mean you cant move around the model, as it becomes effectivly a 2d image that you have to re-render everytime? not used saved views either, will give that one a go, as that sounds like the way forward!
  18. try jonathan reeves who's based in bristol but im not sure how far he travels... http://www.jrarchitecture.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/
  19. Hi, i recently discovered the layer link tool to enable me to view my model in 3d wihtout having to create viewports and re-render everytime. I like this tool as it allows me to zoom around my model in 3d. As soon as i discovered Layer link... stack layers was introduced and EVERYONE is raving about it saying its much better than layer link.... but i have now realised why layer link is better... when you have (in architecture) a house with two floors and a roof all on different layers, you want to sometimes see the whole house as a working model, so turn on stack layers, turn on all the layers and you can see the model. BUT when you then want to change something in the plan, you have to then physically turn off each layer and stack layers. Whereas with layer link, you create your model on a separate design layer so when you want to switch from model to plan, you just have to view a different layer!!! much quicker and easier! Am i right? or am i right??!!!
  20. Yay!!!!!! finally after about a year!!! thanks very much. although its still a bit silly to have jamb depths of 52 instead of a nice round 50! but if thats the way it is, then so be it! Thank you very much. Im now a happy bunny and what a good way to end the day! Cheers! )
  21. Ok... here is the file. have a look at the left elevation and its the three blank looking windows that should have three panes but they cant be seen, and the only common factor i can see is that they are all 'custom' windows. Many many thanks for anyones help )
  22. Any news on this matter NNA? do i need to send you the whole file? I have been away for a week and now need to progress with the project and do some work for the client! Any help greatly appreciated. )
  23. Errr... think ive added a PDF showing the elevation in hidden line rendering. let me know if you cant see it! Cheers Lucylou
  24. Jeffrey... how do i do that!!!!!??? )
  25. Thanks for your help, however its not a symbol, its from the windows that come with vectorworks and it definitly says "window in wall" you can see the outline of the window, but its supposed to be three casements together all with muntins and you cant see any of that detail. the windows i've inserted that are just "bi-parting casements" and are not "custom" you can see all the detail including the muntins etc. So frustrating.... it means i am only allowed 2 paned windows, not 3!!! i shall go and tell my client that now... grrr....
