SIA (Soci?t? suisse des ing?nieurs et des architectes ~Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects~) is a Swiss Standard. Check the VectorWorks manual under Getting Started\Setting Your Prefrences\Document Prefrences\Dimensions\ for more information on dimensioning standards. Modify Layers and classes was not designed to setup a document, it was designed to modify and existing document. Modify layers and classes will not create layers or classes when loaded from a saved mapping file. If the None and the Dimension class move into the proposed list then things are working correctly.

In order for the circuiting tools to work, the circuiting record needs to be attached to objects that VW sees as symbols or objects, it will fail to work on groups or simple lines. If you are still having problems printing email tech@nemetschek.net with your problem and the file. Kevin klinzey@Nemetschek.net quote: Originally posted by pismox: Is this the right email address? It came back as unknown. I think that the problem was the objects that I was trying to circuit were imported from ACAD and then I converted them to symbols. Instead, I replaced the ACAD symbols with VW outlets and so forth. I am having a problem with printing however and I am getting type 11 crash errors. I am having to save file as a VW 8 file before I print. Any advice? ------------------

Please send your file directly to me (klinzey@nemetschek.net) and I will take a look at it. Does the dialogue appear after your first click? Where are your electrical symbols located? on the active layer? Do you have electrical panels in the document? What are their names? quote: Originally posted by pismox: One of the main reasons for upgrading was the abiltiy to use the circuiting tool. When I use it, however, I am able to draw the circuits only to lose all control over VA9. I can't save, our even quit after using the circuiting tool. I have to force quit. What a dissapointment. I have been happy with the program overall until this bug. Anyone have any luck with this? DPG4 533 768 RAM OS 9.1 VA 9

If the Cyrix 133 isn't being seen as a Pentium try downloading and installing this utility. http://www.powerleap.com/CCP.htm It will trick the system into thinking it has a real Pentium processor.

You need to run the Update V2 Objects command. See the instructions in VWReadMe.txt quote: Originally posted by jhutchison: Just upgraded from VW 8.5.2 to VA 9.0. When selecting parametric objects such as windows, I can not edit them--all the options are greyed out. How do I correct this? Use the Modify Layers and Classes command. Before you try this, back-up your drawing. Run the Modify Layers and Classes command. To use all the standard AIA classes click the "Load" load button and select the file ...\Extras\VA2AIAClasses.TXT. This will create and map all the VA classes to AIA classes. You can do the same thing manualy and save it to use next time. Click the next button and map your layers to the AIA layers. (Sorry, no predefined maping for layers.) Save the maping once you are done so you can use it again. Then click finish. One warning, any objects contained in the layers and classes that are left in the existing list will be deleted. More detailes are avaliable in Using Standards chapter under the heading of Altering an Existing File Structure in the Architect manual. Changing the insertion class of objects depends on how you are inserting them. If you are using the Object Browser you can change the class of the object in the Object Browser file. quote: Originally posted by jhutchison: We have a new client who is requireing us to produce Drawings using the AIA Layer Standards (i.e. "A-WALL-NEWW", etc). Is there a way to convert the standard VW class system to AIA standards (which all of our consultants use as well)? Is there a way to change the "default class" of parametric objects such as doors, windows and columns? For instance, when inserting a column, I would like to put it on the class "S-COLS". But instead it by default goes into "Structural-Columns". We are using Architect 9 on MACOS 9.1. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

1. When I insert symbols that I have drawn, into a drawing I am working on, it sometimes comes in invisible. The ?ghost image? is there until I get it into the place I want it and hit the ?enter? key. After that, the symbol is invisible. By accident I have found they become visible again when I use the ?create stair? tool. Do you know why it happens this way? It sounds like the the symbol, or part of the symbol is placed in a class thet is turned off. Try setting all your classes to visible and set your class options to show\snap\modify others.

If you can edit the script change $INCLUDE :AP_Data:GLOBAL_VARS.vs to $INCLUDE AP_Data\GLOBAL_VARS.vs Sometimes the PC doesn't like the Mac file delimiters and you shouldn't need the first one.

Please reply to me off list (klinzey@nemetschek.net) with more details. I did a quick check of the Lighting RC plan and RC plan, and they appear to be correct. The Class 'Electrical Devices' is turned off, Lighting and Spec. are on.

It would be better to use the demo version to view the file. Several features that were added in VectorWorks 8.x do not translate well into MiniCAD 7. -------------------------------------------- If you are receiving a file from VectorWorks, ask for it in MiniCAD 7 format. The only other way would be to ask for a PD file. ------------------ Janis Kent, AIA author WorksTutorial & WorksManual

In the VectorWorks prefrences, turn on Click Drag Drawing. It will allow you to rotate the symbol while you are holding down the mouse button, and will be placed when you release.

This is a known bug in Quicktime 4.0, just upgrade to Quicktime 4.1 and things should work fine.

Check out: http://peach.ease.lsoft.com/scripts/wa.exe?A2=ind9909A&L=vectorworks-l&P=R8802 Tom posted the list a while ago. One keyboard shortcut has been added since this list was created: Ctrl (Command) + K ==> Organize..Convert to Group

This is a known problem. The temporary solution is just don't move the page origin. The objects within the group are referencing 2 different origins when you move the page. There is a fix to the script that involves vector script calls to get and set the user orgin.

I think I have seen this before. Check the type definition, The Text type is obsolete, it has been replaced by String type. Just change the declaration and it should work. [This message has been edited by klinzey (edited 02-14-2000).]

Try upgrading to QuickTime 4.1, use the full install. There was a similar problem on the PC that was caused by an error in QuickTime 4.0.
-
Make sure that you use the full (Custom)install of Quicktime. Some components are not installed in the default installation.
