  1. Your screen redraw problem is because you are showing the dialog during the object reset event. You need to use an event enabled object with a button to run the dialog. You can create a temp symbol by using BeginContext and EndContext(0) within the script.
  2. Ethan, If you requested the software through the website your serial number is there. Go to http://student.myvectorworks.com/ Login and click on the "Request Software" link then click on the "More information..." link. Your serial number should be at the bottom of the page.
  3. If the paperwork is finding them, they are somewhere in the drawing. The best way to find them is to use the Create Report command and create a report for all "Lighting Devices". It will create a worksheet. Right click on a row in the worksheet and choose select item. The drawing will center on the object so you can find it.
  4. There can only be one vectorscript running at a time so the doors will not regenerate and update till your script is finished.
  5. Two different lights. Layer ambient still works the same in 2009. "Default lighting is added by Vectorworks for the basic visibility of rendered objects. For a more realistic rendering, one or more light sources can be added to the drawing. The addition of a light source automatically hides the default lighting scheme, so that the scene is not overly bright. The brightness and color of objects in shadow are affected by the layer?s ambient light setting." The default light source created by VW is more of a directional light source then the ambient layer light.
  6. Something is casting a shadow. Fast renderworks does not use shadows which is wht it works. Depending on which version of VW you are using the origin of the light may be at the insertion point of the object, behind the chord of the truss. Your symbols may not have a non-shadow casting testure applied to them. (Default Instrument Texture) Those are the first tow things to check then you just need to see what else is blocking the light.
  7. The behavior of the lighting device changed significantly since 12.5. In 2008 and beyond ever lighting device has a renderable light inside of the lighting device. In 12.5 you had to manually insert lights and Gobo Projectors in order to render a light in VW. Since VW sees lights in the document, it turns off the automatic light because there are other lights. This causes the texture to look different. If you place an area light or light the objects the textures will render correctly. It looks like the problem with the image prop is related to the ESP Vision exporter and Quicktime. Even with QT 7.2 there are still some textures that do not export. ESP Vision is working on the problem.
  8. In the Vectorworks Prefrences/Display try turning on Center on objects after view change.
  9. The textures do not change, the lighting changes. When you insert a lighting device into the document you are placing a light source and the automatic lighting created by Vectorworks is automatically turned off, so you will hae to turn a light on or place your own area light. (There is no way to prevent this.) The problem with textures not exporting to ESP Vision is due to ESP Vision requiring a newer version of Quicktime than Vectorworks. See ESP Vision Forums If the textures assigned the the objects change, that's a problem that I have not seen.
  10. Right (control-click) on the lighting device in the drawing and select "Edit Light..." not "Edit" or "Properties"
  11. A few things to check for starters. Has the user origin been moved to some distance point? Have the document units been changed? What font was used? I've found a few fonts that VW does not like and when they get mapped to a new font you get all kinds of odd text.
  12. This looks like a problem with just SP1. I can not reproduce the problem in the first version of 2009 or in 2009 SP2. Contact your local distributor about obtaining the SP2 update.
  13. I've heard of the problem before but it does not happen with SP2. Let me know what Service Pack and Build number are you using and I will try to reproduce the problem.
  14. The updater should work if you have a retail version. The updater is not yet available for the Student Version. Can you clearify what you mean by "truss, spots, etc are bigger than the workspace"? Are the Icons too big or the objects being placed in the drawing too big?
  15. Updating to SP2 if you have not done so already.
  16. I can not reproduce the problem. I've tried escaping and selecting another tool between each of the steps and the worst thing that has happened is that a symbol was left on the drawing.
  17. Patrick, We are aware of the problem and working to fix it. We will post an official announcement when the site and download are ready. Kevin
  18. Try copy the DVD to your hard drive first then run the installer. Did it quit, or did it just stop at 79%? From what I can remember there is a point where progress stall becaose it is moving a lot of samll files or a few very large files.
  19. If you do not need the object creation history, select the extrudes you have sliced and run convert to generic solids.
  20. You can select mutiple lights in the visulization pallette and change the attributes.
  21. All the lights used in the lighting devices are shown in the visualization pallette. You can set the properties there. You can also select a lighting device and right clitk on it, select "edit light..." to access the properties of the light.
  22. Just add the symbol to the "containers" folder in the file.
  23. Try creating a Label Legend from scratch. When you edit the layout make sure everything looks right. Make sure the labels are inside of the lareg rectangle, that the bounding box of the symbol does not appeat too large etc. You can also try creating the LL in a new blank document and importing it into your document. Also, make sure you are using "Assign legend to instrument", it resets some of thestored info. Only other thing to check is that your origin is somewhere reasonable.
  24. There is a simple trick to adding user fields to the light info record. If you edit the "Light Info Record" and add a field that matches a field in the lighting device, the lighting device will automatically pull the information from the record as the default. So if you add "User Field 1" to the light info record the information will automatically appear in the "User Field 1" of the lighting device. One caution with this you need to update all your light info records with the new fields or you will get the warning "This record exists, do you want to ...." evry time you import a symbol with different record fields. Also you can customize the user fields of the lighting device, so if you open the plug-in editor and change the alternative name of "User Field 1" to "Voltage" and the "Light info Record" contains a field "Voltage" the information will be transfered. In earlier versions of Spotlight it looked at mutiple records, but this created major problems when both records contained the same field names, so operating with mutiple records had to be eliminated.
  25. What command is causing the error? Have you sent the file to technical support?
