  1. I have not heard of this problem before. If you can replicate the problem please submit the file along with your machine specifications (including Manufacturer, OS, RAM, Video Card, etc.) and exact version number to bugsubmit. http://www.nemetschek.net/support/bugsubmit.php
  2. You will get this message if your are mixing old symbols with new symbols. The Light Info Record was updated (Things like a second beam, field angle and channel count were added) and if you use a symbol that has an older version of the light info record it wants to know which record format is correct. If you update the light info record on problamatic symbols you should not see the warning message any longer.
  3. Yes. In order to render the light source you must assign it to a focus point.
  4. Andrew, Checking for a duplicate name is simple. In your case If GetObject(Date(2,2)) <> NIL then AlrtDialog ('Name In Use'); or put it in a while loop if you just need a unique name UniName := Date(2,2) While GetObject(UniName) <> NIL DO UniName := Concat(UniName,1); SetName(LNewObj,UniName); {There are better ways to do this but you get the point.}
  5. Try running the command in a new blank document. If it does not work you will probably need to contact tech support.
  6. Vectorworks renders only static scenes. You can place a gobo (or any image texture) and have the instrument project it along with a color. If you want to rotat the instrument check "Set 3D Orientation in the OIP and set the rotation.
  7. That's switching Tool Sets. You need to switch workspaces, Tools tab-->Workspaces. If a symbol has the "Light Info Record" attached and the Instrument Insertion tool is available in the workspace then it will be automatically activated. So the easiest solution is to switch workspaces or edit a copy workspace and remove the instrument insertion tool. If you are only dealing with a few symbols you can also activate the symbol insertion tool first and it will remain active while switching symbols.
  8. Jeremy, If you created lighting positions and place the lights on the positions, when you change the height of the lighting position all the lights on the position will move. If you did not create lighting positions or did not place the lights on the lighting position you will have to select the lights and set the Z height by using the OIP (Object Info Palette) using the Move 3D command or dragging them in a 3D view. (Note: if your objects are 2D only then you will not be able to give them a Z value.) Depending on the version you are using you may have to continually select align layer views. If you are using a more recent version you should be able to enable "Stacked Layers" or turn on "Unified View" which will automatically align all the layers with each view change. (You can use the Flyover tool to move around the view.) There is only one drawing window available in VW.
  9. Change to a workspace that does contain the instrument insertion tool.
  10. PDFs exported from Educational versions are locked from editing. You can print or combine the PDF but you can not copy or edit the PDF because it is watermarked.
  11. You probably have a bad font or a font that VW 12 does not like for some reason. Try deleting the font mappings in VW then try creating a a new label legend. I've seen this problem with several custom and hand letteering type fonts and the only way to fix it is to repair the original font or replace the text.
  12. You can not specify a label legend based on the instrument. You can change the active label legend for the document using the label legend manager before you place the instrument or you can change them after insertion as a group using the find and modify command.
  13. If you want to know if you are inside of a symbol you can recursively call GetParent() till you reach a symdef or a layer.
  14. The number of instruments should not matter much. If you have the Lightwright data exchange turned it will take slightly longer to regenerate. You will see longer grgeneration times for instruments that have accessories, two-fers or are part of a multi cuicuit unit. Once one instrument is moved the other lighting devices associated with it must also update and there are some cases where this may happen several times in order to update all the related lighting devices.
  15. Every time you move the instrument (either by a mile or a nudge) it recalculates.
  16. This topic has been locked because the original poster is using an Illegal copy of VW.
  17. katja, I can see from your screen shot that you are using the educational version. The educational version is limited to exporting to only the two previous versions.
  18. In 2010 turn on "Unified View" or select "Align Layer Views" Both are available in the "View" menu.
  19. Ken, To get rid of the "Personalize Your Copy of Vectorworks" message I think you have to enter something into BOTH fields.

  21. It's probably something with your machine. As soon as I regenerate the instrument in your file it's fine. Before you reinstall try deleting your Vectorworks user folder. There was a similiar problem in earlier versions on the Mac but we were never able to reproduce the problem in house.
  22. Vectorworks now has built-in editable worksheets. You can either create one using the create report command or use one of the preformatted database worksheets for Spotlight located in ...\Libraries\Defaults\Reports~Schedules\Spotlight Schedules.vwx
  23. Jim, Please contact tech support directly. I've never heard of this problem before and diagnosing/fixing the problem via the community board will be difficult. Phone: 410-290-5114 E-mail: tech@nemetschek.net
  24. Sheet layers are always at a 1:1 scale of if you place an instrument directly on the sheet layer it will be shown at actual size. If you want the key to be part of the title block you will have to create your own and manually scale the instruments. You can also place the instruments in the annotation layer of the Viewport and they will take on the scale of the viewport. I usually do as Matt suggests, make a viewport (usually a cropped viewport) of just the instrument key and place it on the sheet layer.
  25. Make sure you have updated to the most recent service pack. It sounds like you may have used the create similar tool and set the defaults for the lighting device. SP1 or SP2 addresses this issue with the create similar tool.
