  1. Jim,

    Reboot did nothing...

I am using version 2016 SP3 (Build 301288)...currently up to date with Fundimentals, Architect and Renderworks

Also just noticed that I do not have use of the Heliodon tool or the Renderworks Camera tool...I was trying to perform a shadow study and get the following error when I select either tool

"The plug-in tool "RenderWorks Camera" could not be selected. It is missing necessary resources or the file is damaged."

The same error pop-up occurs with the selection of the Heliodon tool.

    Please advise...

  2. I can login to my old account and change everything I just started a new account so I could be a newbie again. It's probably under panthony@optimumve.com (no longer in service) with the login name panthony...

    Thanks

  3. Just wanted to give a shout out that I'm back after missing out on the last 41,000 posts over the last 8 years. Hope to get up and running very soon with VW2015.

Looking forward to hearing from you all....Mike M, Cipes, Jonathan, Islandmon...

  4. My elevations show only the outline of exterior walls in hidden line. This gives me a heavy weight around the perimeter of windows and doors also when ther is no trim present to hide the lines. I use windoor which gives you additional setup for weights around openings because of the number of classes window and door parts are placed.

Use the wall line weights in edit wall style - component setup.

You can either use the class setup here or define your own weight and color. NOTE: THIS IS FOR 2D DISPLAY

If you want to show line weight variations in hidden line viewports the class line weight will show in elevation.

Plus there is always class overides.

  5. The simple answer is yes and yes to your questions. You can break up your 3D model to as many classes you are comfortable with assigning line weights as required. There are also viewport level abilities to change line weights. The process is both simple at the class and viewport level.

  6. It may associated with the auto save feature where as soon as a rendering is finished the system performs an auto save requiring a screen refresh at the end of the auto save which starts the whole process over again.

Doesn't SHIFT->ESC kill the render process?

Jan...reminds me of an employee of mine years ago who commented that his mother told him he was potty trained with M&M's as reward for proper execution of the task at hand. As soon as he finished his task of proacitve displacement he was rewarded with either a single or double M&M depending on his ability to deposit said function correctly. There was always two M&M's positioned on the tank of the water closet and to his mothers suprise he would partake of his reward with each occurance taking what was his due and leaving any spare for the next chance meeting.

From that day forward he had a dish filled with M&M's on his desk as a reward for a job well done which he would only take a small handfull on his way out the door at the end of a good days work.

  8. No...any line you use from point to point regardless of the orientation will contain the angle, length, x and y coordinate values in The OIP. I use line data all the time when I need to gain up to 10 digits of decimal accuracy to copy/paste for an object move along the x, y and z axis.

The tape measure settings do not show up in the OIP...I never said they did...I said use a line to find your dimension.

  9. Start in the middle and work in both directions. The floor plan...flow patterns and life style space come first. During this initial stage you must be thinking in 3 dimensions...can I roof it? and can it be supported? Once the layout/footprint is generalized it can be tweeked to support the roof with the foundation following.

  10. Dutch hip roof with gable vents installed. Roof is done with by Roof Planes and vents were constructed from solids and positioned in place of the gable end wall. I built the dutch gable as a roof object first and ungrouped it into faces.

  11. Christiaan,

Creating the mortar colors is quite easy in Corel or Photoshop and I like to have a guide from the brick company. I have in the past just used the small mortar colors sample sticks provided by the brick supplier as a guide in recreating the same as a graphic texture. Mortars can vary widely in color due in part to the sand aggregate and colored portland cement. Most brick manufacturers have samples with specific mixtures providing clients with an array of standard samples that compliment thier brick.

The higher resolution a picture you have the more realistic of a texture you can create. This plays an important role in large wall surfaces not showing a pattern such as was seen in the quick sample I made earlier. Plus...in order to find the best seamless graphic you need to choose sometimes a very small area of large photo so the larger the photo the better opportunity to find an area that will give good results.

I prefer images that are somewhere between 480 and 800 pixels at no less than 96 pixels per unit. You can tell the brick folks that you are trying to create seamless textures with the hi-res graphic images

The larger the library of textures you have the more options you have in presentation possibilities.

    Regards,

    pa
