  1. In short, yes you can focus a light any which way you want. When you turn the light on and render it (even openGL works fine) your beam will be where you want it. Not so much luck with turning the beam on. My best guess is the alg they use to determine the beam size / location / direction like anything between 0 and 90 . . . but like i said you can render in any direction you want. JW . . . what kind of rig are you building where all the lights come from the floor?
  2. Up until now, I've really only had to render rosco gel. I've recently had to render some Apollo and Lee gel, and havent had any luck. Is there a file that i can edit, or somewhere where i can enter these colors?
  3. i can find this useful by channel numbers . . . or a "group" field . . . say on like older linear boards (ETC, Colortran, Strand, etc . . . .) where your group is actually a number . . .so you can select instruments based on groups and not a search criteria?
  4. the actual sybols may be at fault here. Try editing the fixture symbol, and see if it actually has a fill to it. same thing with the circle . . . check the container folder in the main file.
  5. Jim- There are a few ways of installing a networked copy in a lab, but it all depends on how your netowrk is set up. In the best of circumstances, you do an install on the server and the server will install on all the machines in the lab. Worst case scenario, you install each machine indavidually. The dongle in the lab that i use is actually on one of the user machines, and it uses the HASP Netowrk dongle License program. The plotter, if it hooks straight to the network, can probably be installed as a network printer on all the machines, or if you have different user accounts (i dont know what network structure you are using) but you can always set different users to be allowed to use different printers. Hope this helps. Feel free to give me a call if you need some help with this.
  6. I actually have a buddy who just baught your templates, and he loves them. I want to give them a try, and if i like them, i will definatley be ordering the file.

    Gobo's

Vectorworks comes with a ton of gobos alrady installed, some can be referenced just like. As far as moving lights go, you need to manually change the gobo. The wireframe comes on when the show light box is checked in the object info palette. If you check the "light on" box, you will actually get the source, you can also adjust the intensity of the light. The "lit fog" box will create a haze effect that you can change the ammount of haze.

what version ov VW are you using?
  9. In short, you cant. I've always created my circle truss, clicked the draw 3d only. I then change views and rotate the truss as needed. Before you do anything else, make it a hanging position (or a symbol if you dont plan on hanging lights on it) to get it out of the truss OIP (otherwise the truss will just revert back to being horizontal) and then create a 2D symbol so you can see where it is in plan view. Not to overly complicated.
  10. I've had this problem with our 5/50s. I've always used another instrument, or i plan to at some point make a new hybrid symbol for the family. JW - I've often wondered who was in charge of designing symbols. I've come across that they arent drawn with the same line weight or consistancy. Does NNA make them, or do the manufacturers?
  11. So after going through and finding all the hidden little treasures from many, many revisions I've fixed everything. This was definatley a great learning expereince. Thanks Jim and Kevin for all your help, I dont think i coud have figured this out on my own.
  12. This question actually lends itself to any instrument that doesnt put out a perfect cone of light, i.e. strips, colorblasts (i know i've been harping on these a lot lately). So i've finally built a hybrid symbol for the CK colorblast. Now the problem that i've come across is that i cant render the light properly because the light only outputs a cone. Is there a way that i can set the values of the beam so it shapes the beam more like an angle and less like a cone?
  13. So I'm going to render a show where i'm using a ton of RGB color mixing devices (Color blasts) and CMY (MAC 700 S and W, Super CYC's, etc) and as much as i love the new rendering option where i can just put in a gel color, i would also like the ability to just add in a RGB or CMY value- i use these instruments enough that i know how they mix and its easier for me to add in values then try to find a gel color that is similar.
  14. No, the show is over. the plot is fin, i was just using this as an example.
  15. So you see the issues i've had. everything but the actual groundplan was made in orignally in V12 (the scenic GP was from the SD imported form ACAD). Now, the file has gone through many changes, from tons of scrollers and moving lights down to what you see is there. The file has also been formatted from 12.5 to 11.5 and back at least 3 times (my laptop was broken, so i had to work off my desktop, which doesnt travel well . . . during meetings i only had access to v11.5) Im wondering f any of that has had any trouble with whats going on?
  16. can you send an example of this?
  17. I do suggest matches, annd then i go back and and fix anything that doesn't look right. the problem then becomes the actual data is inconsistant, or non-existant.
  18. VW 12.5, used the export data to LW and then imported using the import function. Depending in the export, i wither ended up with way to much information, or it was so scrambeled it didnt make any sense. ill be mor than happy to send you a file that i've had trouble exporting.
  19. I've exported a file to lightwright, went to open it, and the data was all over the place. Has anyone else had a problem with this or am i doing soemthign completely wrong?
  20. It would be nice to do this, I often change the height of my hanging positions and have to change the height on my instrumetns as well. Another problem I often have is when i hang a position on an angle, i have to physically place the instruments where they fall. I would love to see this be calculated.
  21. VL fixtures are alrady included in the software. If you ned help finding them, shoot me an email and i'll be happy to walk you through it.
  22. I to am looking for the color kinetics symbols (mainly colorblast). As far as the mac 700, since its the same size as a MAC 500, i just adapted that symbol and data specs. If you're interested, let me know. I've made both the 7002 and 400w versions.
  23. "A vectorworks dongle could not be found. Make sure that the dongle is connected and that all required drivers have been installed. Vectorworks will now quit." Like i said, the dingle is in the computer a lit up.
  24. Yesterday i went to continue on a project. I started up VW, only to get an error that the software coulld not be found. I made sure that the dongle was installed and lit up and tried starting again, same issue. After a while of doing this, i decided to reinstall the software, and the dongle driver. Still no luck. Running MacOS X 10.4.8, VW 12.5. any ideas?
