  1. As far as i know there is no tool for this . . .but you can cheat! Create a box (or however you want your dimmer to look) and turn it into a symbol. Create a label legend for this "circuit" using a blank user field. Make it look as pretty as you like. Then place the "circuit" as (an) instrument(s). Select a group (say all the ones on the first electric) go to Modify>Find and Modify. Find all lights whose selection status is true. Renumber the *Userfiled #* from Left to Right (or however) starting at *the first circuit number* Repeat as needed. Make sense?
  2. One of the spaces i regularly work in is the same way with two curved FOH positions. I too have created custom hanging positions (like i do with every space i work in) and just place things manually on one side (assuming everything is symmetric) and mirror everything. Then, i can usually set my labeling from right to left without an issue . . .but i have no idea how much of a curve your position has . . .
  3. I like this a lot. In some cases though, if one were to already have a circuit plot, would there be a way of calculating the distance (i understand the difficulties that arise once you get into say blackboxes or circuits that arent on a given pipe) from the instrument to the matching circuit?
  4. So i've created some booms, and dimensioned them. On one side, I've had to flip the text which works fine. But as soon as i put it in a viewport in a layout, the text doesnt flip to the other side. Any ideas?
  5. when you click on the data tab, there is a box called "light Info Record", in there you should find everything you need.
  6. With the new source 4 lense sizes (14/70/90), how would i define those with hash marks, not numerics? Also, im updating a whole bunch of my custom symbols, is there an easy way to re-map a different for the numeric edition of symbols, or do i have to go in manually each time?
  7. I'm assuming here that the insertion point of the lights is 0,0,0 in the symbol, which is where the emitter is from. Is there way to maybe change where the emitter is located without actually changing the light with respect to that 0,0,0?
  8. I guess its not the tool im trying to get to work the way im used to, its just more of me thinking in terms of VW, and less in in the how i would do them in ACAD. Pete, seeing the diagram it makes more sense to do things that way, and i keep forgetting that acad was built on an idea of data entry by keystroke, where VW is a more visually based program. Thanks all for your help!
  9. With the polyline tool in auto cad, particularly the arc segments, each segment is individually controllable and does not affect the segment before it.
  10. While i have been using VW for a couple years now for lighting design, i am trying to move away from using acad for drafting everything else . . .if i can keep it in the same program, i will. My issue is that i am so used to using the acad polyline tool that i can't seem to get the VW to work the same way, particularly with arcs. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this a little easier, or any tips that will help me understand this better?
  11. So i've created a symbol that allows be to enter all the information of a custom gel string via data records. But to me this gets a little annoying. How can i take this and turn it into a PIO?
  12. in that case, there are a few ways of going about it. What i do is i have a seperate file where i keep all my symbols that i make, and those that i modify for my standard draftings (I.E. linewieght, standard label legends, scripts, etc) that i then have set as a library that i just import from. In this case, i would create just a 2d symbol like a circle (much like a basic gobo dot) but put something in there like a R or "rotation" arrows. Then just place it like you would a normal accessory. EB
  13. As far as i know, there is no gobo rotator with the standard libraries, but i do know that in steve shelley does have a symbol type thing in his templates . . . are you just trying to put an indicator on a light or a full blown hybrid of something like a twin-spin? EB
  14. Kevin- This wasn't quite what i was looking for. It didnt matter what position the instrument was in, the legend was always pointing up. My problem is, if i rotate an instrument -90?, the text rotates the in the wrong direction. I did figure out, that if i rotate the instrument to something between 0? and -90? first, then to -90?, it all works fine. I don't know if this is a bug, but if this is fixable . . . thanks to everyone who took a look at this!
  15. Jim- thats what i originally thought. So when i created a new label legend, i rotated things like color and channel 180?, applied to the fixtures i wanted to use like that, and they just flipped back the way they were originally.
  16. So, i know this has been posted before, but i dont think anyone has come up with a good answer. Lets say, for example, i have a two lights as high sides on either side of a pipe. On SL, the text for the entire instrument is displayed properly, whereas on SR its technically displayed upside-down. It's nothing more than a continuity issue, but it still is bothersome. Any ideas?
  17. gotta love that we only have access to lw3 . . .
  18. Wow . . . i just had a minute to try what you suggested . . . i have no idea what just happened here . . . anycase, the =xcenter thing does work to a useful state.
  19. Petri- I just tried creating a report in spotlight, unfortunately the x,y parameters are not an option.
  20. Jim- I usually do set my x/y to 0,0 at the center and plaster, im just looking for a way to export the dynamic x,y of each instrument out to LW. BTW, i've never really had a chance to thanky uo for all the help you've provided me with the past few issues i've had. I appreciate all the time you've put in (particularly the alst LW issue i had). sross- do you have the ability to maybe send me a copy of this script?
  21. I've been trying to write a vectorscript that does this, but since this is my first try at writing one, i havent gotten very far. My idea is to have the script select each instrument (based on either the UID or the LW unique id) and copy the x coordinate to a user field. Any suggestions?
  22. Ok, so I am atempting to write my first vectorscript, but im a little lost as to where to start. My script is meant for spotlight, and what i want it to do is select all my instruments, and accessories, etc and copy the x coordinate to a user field for export. So I know what i want it to do, I just can't figure out how to select the instruments. without getting an error.
