  1. Pardon me, frustration always speaks with forked tongue, yes when mixed type is used in serial numbers, the cursed slashed zero should be used, as much as we cad people hate it, figured it out for myself. Love program, was just frustrated, apologies to all, one shouldn't post rants to boards!!
  2. After following this board for sometime, listening to all the negs, ordered the upgrade from 8.5.1, got my serial #, and after all that faith, this CD says not a valid appl'n serial #, what 's happening with this crap?
  3. Appreciate response, even though I'm working from a Wall street 466 "IBM Copper" G3 w/512 MEG, I'm going to go to 9.5 (upgrade). I don'y need all the ME, ditto attachments/resources, can I select/TAILOR my apps as needed? Great user board! Doing well, GUYS
  4. That's impressive, but now if I wanted to start an input dialogue, such as "how wide is building? "value=A, "how long is building?" value=b, ...... can I then take those values and direct the PIO or what? to draw what I can program values for? Thanks I am a fire protection engineer in search of answers
  5. Thanks Brian O, I was not implying that here is fault to bear, by anyone, but dxf was their idea, they don't support it or try to. The "only hope" is V'works, and you're doing well, it is a struggle and we shouldn't expect input from a'desk to make our lives easier, for my part, thanks for trying.....
  6. Thanks Brian, am using V'works 8.5.2, and have had limited success doing that. Sometimes, it works OK...., get part of what I want, but sometimes not, follows no pattern. I suppose it's the devil A'cad.
  7. I really need some assistance on a project that is coming at me like a freight train. I have these drawings that were emailed and cannot get any assistance from the arrogant engineering consultant , "that's all you're going to get" cad mgr, that sent them to me. It seems that he has an XREF sent to him from an architect, that he has done his work on, and by contract was to furnish to the sub-contractors his work that without fail was to be adhered to. I have managed to get these things sorted out to the parts that I need. I want to strip the layer/class identification, put all on one layer or class and modify them to appear when and where I want them, ie reflected ceilings, lights, ductwork, steel, etc. HOW DO I DO THAT? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Posts: 15 | Registered: Nov 2000 ?|? 9. THANKS TO ALL THAT HAVE POSTED TO THIS FORUM, I'M A STRUGGLING ENGINEER?, AND I HAVE NOT MUCH GOOD HERE, I REALLY WANT TO GO TO A BETTER PLACE, DOCUMENTATION SUCKS, $$ FOR JANIS KENTS BOOKS OUT THERE TO ROUND OUT A GOOD EXPERIENCE, "COME-ON PEOPLE NOW LETS-GET-TOGETHER, TRY TO LOVE/HELP ONE ANOTHER RIGHT NOW"-STOP FUSSIN AND BE BETTER THAN "AUTOCAD" OR THROW-IN THE TOWEL. I CAN'T GIVE ANYMORE AND CAN'Y AFFORD AN UPDATE BASED ON THESE RETURNS, HELL PANCHO VILLA WOULD HAVE BEAT ANYBODY SOUTH!
  10. Will someone direct me to some source, training aid to writing vectorscripts for automating drawing? Thanks
  11. I'd be interested to know what version of MacPlot Pro you're using because of my descision to upgrade to "9" or not. A of today, my version of 8.5.2 works with my version of MacPlot Pro on an old HP pen plotter, which is all I own> any guidance? thanks
  12. Thanks for help, as a learner of V'works was not that proficient so I wrote a dxf and exported, changed layering in cad program I was used to, and merged by knowing what layers were what. I appreciate your help and will try to study "GROUP EDITS" Richard
  13. I have two (2) drawings imported from A'cad 14, one an arch'l floor plan, and one a reflected ceiling plan. I need to combine the two, with the reflected ceiling plan on a separate level. I'm short on time and need help desperately. I still have to put all the structural info on before I can begin my design. Thanks, Richard, challenged in NC
  14. Thanks for the input Andrew. Reading between the lines of the unhappy people on the general discussion group, they seem to be pointing toward the kind of bugs and lack of documentation that bother me. As I said, Janis Kent's book is a necessity for a V'works user, you can't learn how to drive a Ferrari with an owner's manual and a key. A'cad is customizeable and somewhat more aggravating than V'works. As a MAC application, ease of use and user-friendly comes to mind. What space bar + period+some other key crap equals some short-cut, that's windows and we all know what that is
  15. This reply is to dlstudios, would like more info on how this works, ADOBE ACROBAT, live 40 miles from my client base and am having to live in the a'cad world, which means I have to visit these blueprint shops on a regular basis. If I can get away from my pen, or possibly new plotters I would welcome the prospect. Further to all, is there anything good about VW 9, why should I upgrade? Deneba has offered their 2.02 package at $329, and it is A'cad 2001 compatable. Are users that unhappy with V'works 9? I have to admit that documentation is really bad, bought Janis Kent's Manual for an arm and a leg and low and behold VW 9. Somebody, including Apple, needs to sharpen up their OS and app's to the point that all work smoothely. PDF manuals suck and if you can't document your software, you're moving too fast for people like me! All help appreciated IP: Logged

  18. I have to design an automatic sprinkler system for geodesic dome. I have gotten an A'cad dwg wire frame of this animal. Is there a straightforward way to measure, true dimension, between the intersection of the struts, which is the only place that I can place hangers for the sprinkler piping? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Richard
  19. IN THE WORKSMANUAL VERSION 8.5, JANIS KENT IN THE COLOPHON ACKNOWLEDGES THE FOLLOWING FONTS, "UNIVERSE", "BELL GOTHIC", AND "GRAPHITE" ALL BY ADOBE. CAN ANYONE WHO HAS THE BOOK TELL ME WHAT THE FONT IS ON PAGE 99, CHAPTER 4, TOP LEFT, WHAT FONT THIS IS AND HOW TO GET IT? THIS FONT IS MOST EQUIVALENT TO WHAT SEVERAL ENGINEERS I WORK WITH CALL "HAND, I SUPPOSE SHX IN A'CAD" THANKS
  20. Thanks for your suggestion, solved the problem by throwing away the v'works preferences from the system folder. Some nice person suggested that via an e-mail. The attributes pallette functions perfectly now! Richard
  21. When trying to work from the attributes pallette, click dragging as noted by Janis Kent, AIA page 99 of V'works manual 8.5, I find no pull down menu indicating the widths available?? What am I doing wrong?
