  1. Not to put too fine an edge on things, but would you kindly identify the G1 & G2? Mac user since '85
  2. Simple, yeah simple minded! Your disdain for Limbaugh is coloring your mind! Acrobat 6 just recently came out, TechTool 4, has been postponed by quarters, and Nemetschek has been strugging mightily to patch Cupetino's upgrades to X. Hell, I'm not against progress, but obviously you don't make your way in this world spending your hard earned money for either software or hardware, so I don't expect you to understand being put in the last row by Apple going after bigger, faster, give me your money. I ask you one question, the ultimate box, with all the speed in the world, what the hell is the good is it if your software has to go through a year or more of de-bugging, beta's, and fixes? At what point do developers stop supporting OS 9, because of investment and time. There's good evidence out there if you would simply open your eyes, for example. Windows 98, A'cad has dropped all support. Got any idea how many people still use that for a basis of applications?
  3. Trying to understand, come on guy, send your post to the oracle at Delphi! What do you expect from a tech board, all knowledge, all the time! I know it never hurts to ask the question, but you have to be dense as hell to post this question, don't try to bend the system to fit your needs and through up your hands for lack of an answer.....
  4. My 2 cents worth, can't fathom the premise that AAPL, yes stock, won't stay with a platform-be it POWER PC/G3/G4/ long enough for the software to catch up to the hardware so that we all can feed our children based on the money that we earned and spent on Mac stuff, I for one am going to bite the bullet, buy and buy a windows box (only) and deal with the rest of life (cause I already own A'cad 2002 LT), cause JOBS is collect the money for technology on his end and screw the users. It's not Adobe's fault, nor Nemetschek, nor TechTool, nor for that matter Microsoft, if you come at it from get the money and run, it's profitable but not to the people on the street. I'm afraid apple has lost me! Check out Rush Limbaugh today, his dual processor G4 arrived today!! I'd feel crushed! HE DID TOO, even though he spoke as a true follower! whether good or bad, a'cad is abreast of the operating system, that's a hard job for VECTORWORKS, no matter how hard they try! I still hope that someone in cupertino is listening
  5. Score a three point shot for KATIE !!! only with Vectorworks do you get this treatment, proud to be a user and "I wasn't born to follow"
  6. This to me sounds like text formatting, windows vs mac, how can the tech guys go cross-platform, RISC vs M'soft code? I agree with your premise, but ask yourself one question, "DOES AUTOCAD WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE REST OF US?" They seem to have added the "pdf solution" lately, but what happened to real support of "dxf"? AND everytime an upgrade comes around, it alienates some users W '98, or '95, etc., etc. We all have history, our best work, it's got to work tomorrow, or our work is in vain!
  7. "If the NNA engineers could develop either a text tool (perhaps keep the existing text tool, and add a second for more difficult or larger volume notes) or a worksheet that could handle large amounts of text (i.e., include a word wrap feature)then the issue would go away." This is a wonderful suggestion and an idea that could be built upon...It's just that when you start talking M'soft, it drives mac folks nuts. We acknowledge and probably use EXCEL & perhaps, probably WORD. But I for one, will struggle to the death, to avoid both, in my engineering drawings & spreadsheet table automated counts on objects/symbols
  8. YES-BUT, dream-on, whether it was DielGraphsoft or NEMETSCHEK, our CAD software alternative, I say this as a truebeliever coming from the mac world, the capabilities of cut & paste, exists in both worlds but not if you "didn't get here by chasing the AutoCAD rabbit down the road blindly" You don't know the difference between copyclip & pasteclip. You're really talking about model space linking -x-ref->spreadsheet(EXCEL) and/or wordprocessing(WORD) to avoid separate written specifications on the CAD drawings, that can simply be updated by (cut & paste from revised drawings dated with change order request # **** dated ***** GET REAL
  9. WOW, now all you guys in R&D, we would like to have both the capabilities of WORD & EXCEL, in our CAD program & don't even think about raising the price. All of us will continue to struggle out here until this is done. Do you think you could have this up and running by September? CLOSE THE SUBJECT!!!
  10. PC's don't dominate the "AEC world"-AutoCAD is the most prevalent CAD software, even though they don't give a about the ".dxf" they started but won't support! AND furthermore, I have yet to read an AEC set of specifications that doesn't rule out "scaling" of drawings and/or written specifications as opposed to drawings, which are apart of all contract documents at least in the southeast of the USA for last thirty-five years. FINALLY, if you understand the power of "EXCEL" as a spreadsheet, you wouldn't be using as a fancy word-wrapped format maker Sounds like you think V'works can solve your approach problem by turning on a flashlight
  11. Personally, I wish that some would give up the hope of A'cad wannabes. Love it or leave it, V'works is an evolving environment with good support and an organization that really tries to listen to user input. It is not necessarily true that the squeakiest wheel always gets the grease. No, we don't have lisp, and no, we don't have excel spreadsheet, but think back awhile, for a very long time you windows/dos people lamented with lotus 1 2 3 and defended it to the death! I for one am willing to evolve with the plan and the technology driving it, in the long run, A'cad will be more like us than we will be like THEM
  12. Check-out the Epson 3000, there seems to be TWO varieties, (1) the original that will output a full 17"x22" (still available on ebay), & the newer that seems to be the same 13"x19" that the 1520 will do. Printers use the older one for proofing with a RIP but also works well for same purpose for 50% output for proofing
  13. Thanks alot for these helpful responses, have tried all and find this A'cad box to be a good spacer for my many catalogues. Learning the hard way is always the most expensive lesson. Again, thanks for enlightenment!
  14. Using V'works basic on OS 9.5.3, G3 500 mz Powerlogix 768 mb, have foolishly bought A'cad 2002 LT to evaluate my exports, continued waste of $$ bought V PC 6 to run the aforementioned. YEP, that's what I did. Even if I make all text ARIAL and export a .dwg, my text will not export in a form that's acceptable to the A'cad world for overlay co-ordination of even the smallest projects. It's like the text is not related to the line drawings. Hey, SAMURAI, what am I doing wrong? The A/E's in A'cad world, say they cannot use my PDF's, are they pulling my leg or is there a better way. Thanks a bunch for any guidance
  15. Question #1, has the problem with processor usage been resolved with G3 & G4 powerbooks?
  16. HAS ANYONE USED THIS SUCCESSFULLY? WHAT DRIVERS OR WILL THEIRS DO? AM CONSIDERING THIS AS A "PROOF" PRINTER BECAUSE OF SIZE AND COST, WILL USE BUREAU FOR FINALS. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED
  17. I must agree with Samurai, $250, possible lost production time, and still no support for viewports & xref's and the constant problem of dealing with a'cads .shx reality. Hate to tell this but opted for $600 ACAD LITE 2002 just to deal with my client base, all of whom are in the "other world". Not proud of this decision just out of choices. Waited til 2002 for some problems to be addressed, did not feel that I should upgrade twice in same year and still be lacking in ability. Still a believer but reality takes no prisoners
  18. While I welcome change and advance, CAN'T sacrifice production for change without rock solid output for my work that I'm billing for. THAT'S MY REALITY!! MARKETING & TECH needs to understand that reality. If there's a new product in the pipeline, I would suggest that they should utilize all liscensend users as beta testers at a no cost charge to uncover any defects in software, After all, we are "true believers", why not give us a chance to say "yea or nay" before you ask for money, though I understand the need for compensation
  19. TS, neat response, sounds alot like a foreigner, I can diagram that sentense for you in king's english...you missed the gist of my comment regarding the foolishness of the subject, your comment posted on starting a new thread, and the spelling of words. The reality is that all we have out there is A'desk or something else, why can we not admit, accept, appreciate, and pay for a product that does try to continue to open the possibilty that we don't have to go there. I, for one, will pay the company that provides the software that enables me to work in my reality (OS) whatever it takes, be it MAC OS or WINDOWS, anything but A'desk. It's simply a better world. TRUE BELIEVER, ME
  20. Katie, use your spell checker... Chris, you too... Cloud I think I understand why it's hidden! What an interesting but somewhat curious pursuit approach to a critique of a very good, well supported product, just my opinion, please excuse Richard
  21. I am grateful for the support and up to the minute resolution of conflicts that NNA provides, try that kind of support from Autodesk! Cost of upgrade, that's nickles chasing dollars, if you can't run with the big dogs stay on the porch, old southern wise tale. Appreciate all and will upgrade without complaint and encourage NNA to keep on development of the next great thing! Richard
  22. Sounds like you guys have personal issues that require resolution off the message board, get to it and leave the rest of us out, my opinion only, pardon me.
  23. As a professional engineer, preparing drawings from an imported layer from another field of expertize, be it an architectural-mechanical-electrical-civil-topo type drawing, I really need to make my input prevail over all others by making my layer/class stand out by some means other than "map colors", see what I designed, without having to modify my completed work on the "output-plotted end". Hope that is pretty straightforward, not complaining, but going back to make it look good is not part of the creative process
  24. Stargate, You should be a "have gun will travel" in the new world of the ether. Seriously, we have corresponded in the past regarding scripting, if we could communicate the application need and you could fill the need, why could you not be the V'works HITMAN as I am the engineer for others when they can't meet the deadline with their own forces. A'cad has everyone buffoled, not sure about that spelling, even dutch/deutsch, anyway, am suggesting that your talents can expand the V'works users horizons and apps-so you're over there somewhere, I'll pay you to help develop whatever, yankee money or wampum, I need with V'works rather than having to resort to A'cad LT . Richard
