  1. I think what Peter means is to put this info in yur signature block. This will save you typing it in every time and it will also be on every post automatically.
  2. If the answer to above is YES.... I do this all the time w no problems... This may sound stupid but...Make sure are in "Renderworks" mode. Click on "Fast Renderworks" or "Final Renderworks" in "Current Render Mode Options"
  3. If the "Block" works you might be better off... What I was doing was "EXPORTING" from VW as a dxf/dwg and then OPENING it in AutoCAd. Biggest problem was that VW seems to have a lot more geometry to it's drawings than AC.
  4. I don't want to sound like a total idiot but..... Instead of exporting from VW to AutoCad does it make a difference if you are in AutoCad and "IMPORT" it?
  5. Are there any people in the Cleveland, OH area that do training. I need to get up to speed on VW2009 with Renderworks. Thanks, Brendan
  6. Why is it that the only textures that really require rotating don't have an * next to them? The Woodgrain textures...Can onyone tell if the "marble" texture ie: is rotated ? Is there any sensible reason for this?
  7. What are good sites for downloading props n textures for use in Renderworks? I have read some scattered throughout the forum but it would be helpful to have a few suggestions in one topic. I have no problem registering on a site if I am getting free downloads. I find that RW is lacking in the amount of textures available. Yes I know that I can go in and edit them but Jazus, some of the editing for some textures go on forever. OR...Is there a CD of textures and Props available somewhere for a reasoonable fee? Thanks all.
  8. Thanks ALL. I will check it out and keep practising.
  9. I have been using VW v12.5 w/RW and am still in learning stage. My company just upgraded to v2009. Question: I now have v2009 at work but do not have permission to put on home PC...also no official training. I understand that v2009 does not have training manuals and I have to rely on the on-line tutorial. (So I have been told my management at my co.) Personally I have a problem w on-line and like to have a manual in front of me. Considering I already have v12.5 on my home PC and also have training manuals and CD's for v12.5 is there any sense in training at home on v12.5. Are the basics the same? (VW Fundamentals w/RW) It seems my only other option would be to personally purchase v2009 which is not feasible right now. Don't even think of telling me to get training. The last time I asked my boss I was told that it would be a personal expense to improve my "personal" talents.....LOL
  10. Thank you Ray and Carpalmer, Will check it out Brendan
  11. I have been reading the above posts with great interest. I was just getting the hang of VW/RW v12.5 and my co. just got the 2009 version (still to be installed) Question, what is artlantis? Is it a totally diff. product than Renderworks?
  12. DUH!...I feel like an idiot....thanks Ray. Other times though I was left with the actual item I was rendering on the screen and in position but everything else dissapeared. I'll check those too. Thanks again, Brendan
  13. Ok, seems like it is showing up after I hit "Submit" Hope so.
  14. I've tried adding the file here using file manager on post. What am I doing wrong? The file loaded etc. but does not show up. It's even giving me the name VW called the file.....1446 I have not updated to 12.5.3 yet...kinda afraid to touch anything...LOL Brendan It's coincidence the file name has 2008 in it...It was created using v12.5 Fundamentals w/ Renderworks
  15. M.CH ...When I open Vw it says v12.5 Ray, I take it you are talking VIDEO driver. I tried and was told I have the best driver installed. here is what it says for my video driver.... RADEON X600 256 Hypermemory RADEON X600 256 Hypermemory (Secondary) I have 2 gb of RAM on a DELL Pentium dual core proc., 2.8mh This might be important and I notice it is not in my original post.... With a saved rendering when adding a texture to another object the screen goes white... BUT I am left with the one item I was adding the texture to on a white screen.. The rest of the rendering dissapears. After a save and having this happen I have also tried closing the job WITHOUT saving hoping to open it back up and see my original before the white screen...no luck. Hope does means something. Thanks, Brendan
  16. VW 12.5 w/RW...Sometimes while rendering, applying texture, my screen goes blank (white) and I cannot see my rendering. I also cannot go back to my rendering. I've tried using the undo command to go back. Ultimately my rendering is lost ...even closing and reopening VW and reopening my rendering still shows a white screen. Any Ideas? Thanks
  17. Thanks Ola, I checked the site for trainers in my area and there are none. I appreciate your comment about only using one program but as I am under pressure to complete details etc. I will have to get to The Vectorworks part after Renderworks. I know it's backwards but after reading my companys position above you'll see that I don't have much choice.
  18. Thanks for the opinion Cad, I'll get in to the drawing side of VW soon..when I think I've mastered the Rendering good enough to present. I'm sure it will be a lot easier using one program.
  19. Thanks Peter, Anybody in The Greater Cleveland area...or even within a decent drive that does training? Anybody got comments on my above post? Is this Company SAVING money? What is out there....AutoCad Vs.Vectorworks/Renderworks being used in the Exhibit Industry??
  20. What is the general opinion about learning Vectorworks/Renderworks from manuals/CD's compared to The Vw clasroom training? I have been studying Renderworks (V.12.5..Fundamentals w RW). As I can already do my 3D drawings in AutoCad (v2000) and import them into VW to render I am kinda sticking to AC for drawings and RW for rendering to save time as I know the AC program. However my goal was to eventually get into the VW for my drawings also. (At the time I only want to learn 1 at a time so when I know RW better was gonna try n switch the drawing. I understand that classroom training would speed everything up a great amount compared to reading manuals etc. The Co. I work for has been pressuring me to switch over but is unwilling to pay for training. Now get this....I had the opportunity thru a supplier to attend a 4-day FREE Vectorworks/Renderworks workshop. When my company was presented w this I was told ...."FREE does not mean it includes my airfare or Hotel" So it was denied but still under pressure to GET UP TO SPEED. (I am a one man department) preparing floor plans, construction dwgs, perspectives and exploded view set-up dwgs for the exhibit industry and am now getting into the rendering. Based on the above info if I was to pay for this myself (relunctantly)is there enough companys using Vectorworks instead of AutoCad out there for it to be worth my while ...If I was to leave here eventually. So basically, based on your peoples knowledge of the industry what are companys using out there in the USA. I am only comparing VW to AC as I have no intention of starting a different program on top of these two. Thank you,
  21. Hi John, I also use AutoCad but v2000. If I remember correctly when purchasing VW I was told there is NO TRIAL PERIOD offer like other programs. I was told that they were so confident we'd love it and VW offers a money-back guarantee instead. If you are getting into the rendering more you might consider getting the version with RENDERWORKS. While I am still learning VW I am really using Renderworks for my renderings as I had been using AC for all my drawings 2D and 3D. ( I was not doing renderings until recently) I use the AutoCad for rush jobs as I know it but my intentions are to switch over to just the one program, VW w RW. So I'm working kinda backwords but find the quality and ease of use excellent in Renderworks. (With the help of all these fine people in here). I have no problem opening an AC drawing in VW, saving it as an .mcd VW drawing and rendering it. However I have read on this Forum that newer versions of AutoCad will not work.
  22. Thanks for your speedy response Pat. Yes I am in perspective view w corners as you described. So does this mean I should render in Orthogonal/ Isometric and then just switch to perspective for my final view / output? I kinda liked being in my perspective view as I could see exactly how my shadows etc. were showing up. But I can live with this...LOL BUT, is there any reason or benefit to the "BOX" or is it just there in perspective view for no reason. I could understand it if it was at least set to a page proportion and the image inside could be enlarged or reduced. Thanks again Pat, At least I can rest easy knowing this. BUT, What the heck is it there for?....LOL
  23. When working in VWv12.5 w RW My dwg usually starts out without being inside a "box" and without me changing anything all of a sudden it is in a "box" I like it just being on my PC screen. What causes this box or window to appear and how do I get rid of it? Does anybody know why or what benefits there are to it being in a box? I find that I cannot see lights etc where are positioned outside which makes it hard to edit. I am working on Trade Show exhibits so my drawings/renderings are not that detailed compared to an architectural building. So if it's a memory or speed reason it doesn't seem to affect me. So how can I stop this "box" or window from appearing? Thank you all in advance and also for your past help.
  24. Benson, Ray, You guys are geniouses. I have been playing around with the rotate tool and different textures and I am in Heaven...(For Now)...LOL Benson, most textures are working no problem. I am still amazed that the textures we would need to rotate the most are the ones without the asterix. What were they thinking?. I'll be sure to try the other options you gave me also. While the manual might be technically correct it sure made me try a bunch of unecessary stuff. I was so frustrated. Obviously I have myself to blame by sticking with the same wood grains. There is a lot more to this program than I expected so back to learning. Thanks again for your help. I'll stop pulling my hair out for now. (Don't have that much anyway) Brendan
