I've tried rebuilding the desktop but it made no difference. I have this problem on about ten Macs, any other ideas???
One way to rebuild the desktop database is to restart your machine and then hold down the command and option keys until the Finder starts up and asks you whether you'd like to rebuild the desktop database. I learned recently that it's not even necessary to restart your whole computer -- just quit all running applications, and then force-quit the Finder by pressing command-option-escape. After answering 'yes' to the 'do you want to Force the Finder to quit' dialog, hold down the command and option keys until the Finder has restarted and asks you whether you want to rebuild the desktop database.
