  1. I was sent an autocad file that I need to convert to vw. The problem is that I don't have autocad anymore. I've downloaded the autodesk review thing, and the dwg trueviewer, but neither seems able to export as .mcd, only to other versions of autocad. What do I need? Can I actually do this? I'm using vw 11.5, and it is unable to just open the file.
  2. Is there a way to change the container size in a label legend? I'm working in 11.5, and with the size that the channel needs to be, the circle is a little too small.
  3. Is there a way to change the size of the dimension text? For some reason it's pretty huge, like 20 point or something, and it seems wrong to have the dimensions bigger than the electrics labels.

    pay scale

Well, I asked around and most of what I heard was 15-20. I'm good at it, and I own the program, but I'm not quite great yet. Besides, that's not all I'm going to be doing. (and it helps that I have roommates, therefore relatively cheap rent). But hey, if you know people who will pay me more, send them my way.

    pay scale

Thanks, I figured it out. For those interested- I'm charging 17.50 an hour. Apparently people go up to 25, but that is more for super-fast people who are working for places that can afford that.

    pay scale

Of course I'm waiting to really start until we have this worked out, but that's not the issue, the issue is that I don't know how much I should be asking for. I don't want to undersell myself, but I also don't want to name something too high.

    pay scale

So maybe this isn't the right place to ask this, but hey. I'm in New York, and am starting to freelance draft for some lighting designers. At the moment, I'm transfering a groundplan into spotlight, and then mid-january I'll be cleaning up the rough plot. The trouble is that I have no idea what I should be getting paid for this. It's for a show outside of New York, so it's not a Broadway payscale, but it's not too far off (Berkeley Rep). Any ideas? Advice? Thanks.
  8. I know I used to know how to do this, and it's mildly frustrating knowing that it's fairly simple. How do you get the instruments to show up on top of the pipes, ie not have the lines of the pipe go right through the instrument? I'm working in v11.5, in 3d. (though I don't think the 3d is the issue, shifting into side view and lifting the instruments more is not the solution)
  9. I think making a specific class that you create symbols in and always leave on would work. Or maybe one class for instrument symbols, another for hanging positions etc.
  10. I'm trying to plot a sheet with viewports on it, and it's being selective about what I get. One viewport doesn't show up at all, a couple pieces of text are missing from underneath others, and one chose not to include its callout texts. Interestingly enough, everything shows up fine when I scale it down, and send it to the printer. Any ideas?

    scale

I have a hand drawing done in metric scale that I need to put into vectorworks. Is there a way to make wectorworks speak metric, or do I need to convert all measurements? I set the layer scale to 1:50, but the measurements (ie, when I draw a box, say) are all still in feet, so that doesn't help much.

    Cheeseboroughs

gmcevoy, that would be great! If it doesn't work to throw it on the texture sharing buletin, let me know and I'll give you my email. Thanks!
  13. I've been spending way too much time trying to draw one in 3d. Does one already exist? 2d or 3d, I can work with either.
  14. Try inserting them as instruments and making a label legend that has what you need on it.
  15. I assume you've tried dragging it etc, and that it's mildly insulting that I would think that you overlooked that. Does closing the program and reopening it work? Or switching between spotlight classic and spotlight might reset it.
  16. I'm using 11.5 for this.
  17. So if I want to edit, say, a MFL par, just using the symbol for something else. Editing the light record info is no problem, however, if I delete the grey letting saying MFL in the instrument itself, when I insert the instrument in the drawing, no info shows up, all the wattage, instrument type etc that I editted is gone from the object info pallet. Is there a way to fix this? I've noticed that if I don't delete the letters, just change them, or even replace them with a space, everything is fine. Kind of wierd.
  18. So if I have a light (xwfl S4 par) sitting on the floor, pointing straight up at wooden beams(2x12's, on edge) 4 feet above it, and I want to see how that works out, how would I go about this? My first problem is that I can't figure out how to point the instrument up, and the second being that it doesn't like where my focus point is. Any and all help greatly appreciated.
  19. Is there a way to change the orientation of the 'position summary'? It's easy enough to move the label to a better place, but if you try to rotate it (to have it lie parallel to the pipe, for instance) you end up rotating the whole pipe. Other than making a separate text label, I'm not sure how to get around this. [ 01-31-2006, 08:28 PM: Message edited by: Thea ]
